  1. Got an invite from Martin off the site ,to have a go at some pigeons on some unripe wheat .Farmer is not a happy man as he can see the grey hordes from the farmhouse .We both had to work until roughly 4.30pm so a late start in some peoples opinion .Set up a few plastics and the magnet without ,as yet ,any birds on ,just in readiness .I know what its like on standing corn just trying to find a shot bird so the object was to drop any birds as they pitched so we could pick them .Plans involving animals/birds rarely go as planned and the first one shot was lost to our right in long grass .Managed
  2. Nice team you have there mate .Tyres ,i hate them ,wet, slimey and always end up moving them
  3. Nice one mate .Hope your head was a bit clearer after that session too .
  4. Last Friday i had a call ,rather a plea for me to shoot a fox that has taken to killing chickens in a big way .Up to 15 a day by the patches of feathers i'd say. Went over for an evenings sit ,saw the bugger at distance but no shot presented itself despite ,sitting until dark . Another phone call yesterday to ask if i could snare the fox around the free-range organics . Got there at 6.30pm with a hand full of wires and several runs in mind .After a chat with the farmer ,i was on my way . The organic sheds are situated amongst a field of thistles and long grass ,the only clear patches are w

  6. Nice one foxy mate .Bit of a dry period here at the moment but fishing good though.
  7. Nice write up mate .Some people get too absorbed in the 'specimen 'side of fishing to appreciate anything else .Makes me smile when i see a lad weighed down with realtree kit and catches the odd decent fish or blanks .Sometime ago ,on our local stretch of the avon ,i was barbel fishing with the usual minimum kit when a couple of bankside hunters came along and asked how i did .Before i could say much the other lad blurted out that hed had a 15lb barbel to which i replied that id nothing like that but i had them to 12lb and 8lb and 7 inbetween .I could see the look of disbelief so emptied my ne
  8. Quality read there mate and may there be many more ,just lose the italic as its hard on my eyes .
  9. Invited myself to fish our local lake with my lad of 10 .My mate has a ticket on this water and is allowed a guest . Started with the usual 8-10 balls of ground bait ,a mix of brown crumb and sweetcorn laced with frozen ,dead maggots .The reason for the dead maggots is twofold .One is that live maggots tend to cause ground bait balls to break up in the air and the other is that there is a way of thinking that most are lost in the silt of the lake before they are eaten .Anyway as it proved later ,the fish still eat them as a number were coughed up in the nets .Worm and maggot cocktail at 30 ya
  10. Shame on you for shooting them this side of september mate .You know the rules impossed on other sites .lol.
  11. Even Dick Turpin had the decency to wear a mask !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  12. Got the first of many invites [hopefully ]to a local private lake that holds some decent sized bream and tench as well as good pike fishing .Started the day at 0530 and balled out 10 good sized balls of brown crumb ,maggots and sweetcorn mix .Made these balls the day before so that they would breakdown gradually. My host gave me the chioce of swim which is a bit of a lottery here as the bream are ,as you probably know great rovers .Anyway ,filled the cage feeder ,cast out a worm and maggot cocktail and waited for things to happen .A large pike errupted in the shallows which promted me to tackle

  17. Tried a favourite location yesterday evening where i now have the ajoining farm too.Spotted a buck as soon as i got into the first field but he was already running ,possibly chasing another buck as i could see a deer over the hedge .its amazing how they know their enviroment .Anyway ,onwards it was along the top of a ridge stopping to spie the fields below .Spotted a buck in the bottem field about 500-600yds away and planned my stalk .All the gates are open now so that was easier and i soon got within 2 fields away and had another look through the bins .He was nothing special ,an average youn
  18. That would be the .243 with a 100 grain winchester mate .
  19. Been having a dry period as far as bucks are concerned which is new to me as they are abundant around us .Finally broke my duck by spotting and stalking a youngster that ive seen on numerous occasions but has always been in a feild that borders a footpath .The shot has been safe enough but i dont like the idea of walkers being startled .Thats the sort of lad i am ,considerate to the core Anyway ,yesterday evening he was in a field of uncut hay grass and damn near invisable at times ,you know how it is ,one minute he's broadside then gone head down in the grass .This field slopes down to a s
