  1. Decided on a look around some ground i hardly ever visit now but the choice was worth it as it happened .The farmer was watching the last few swaths of barley disappearing under the combine and we had a chat over the gate about what was where and at what time .Local knowledge is sometimes the key to a good outing and this was no exception .He mentioned a couple of bucks seen in a particular field and urged me to get one or both as the neighbour has recently put up a high seat on the boundary .He also said about a litter of cubs that outstayed their welcome by chasing his chickens .He did add t
  2. You must have had that rifle in the vice Martin and straightened the fecker out ,lol.Hope your saving a few for my .222 as shes partial to a diet of fox .
  3. Are there any flashing disco lights on this one as my terrier does enjoy a jig whilst working .
  4. The thread on the BDS got me thinking .Last year ,i was part of a deer cull on our local estate .This was overseen by the' deer initiative '.They were surprised that none of us had heard of them and gave out booklets on their aims .They were well organised and brought along a team of tracker dogs for wounded deer which although not needed was ,i thought very responsible .They were 6 strong in all and all joined in the gralloch even though they had a long jorney home to Devon. There was a talk on safety by one of them and no hard sell ,which made a change .If this is the future for a deer mana
  5. As David says mate ,the rotary can have an adverse affect on birds even when set at the head of a pattern .I start a session with it not turning and rely on the birds bouncing to draw in others .I keep meaning to extend the lead to it and fit a switch as they definately draw birds passing high over head but the gearing with a fully charged battery is too fast and it always works better when the battery is wearing down .Dont over use the magnet as birds soon suss it out and that is then another ploy gone .Another thing ive noticed mate is not to mix decoys with the real thing in a pattern as th
  6. Ah but -the sweat in my eyes was a major factor mate and those rabbits were on the 200 yd mark ,lol .Practice mate and then some more .Next time i will shoot, and we will see if old dropper still has it in him or not .Just good to be out mate .
  7. Good head on her Foxdropper, is she Nuttall bred? For an 8 1/2 year old bitch she don't show the signs of a well served FOX bitch..obviouslly a bayer eh?...good luck with whelping her next year..... Bayed when she was younger ,then went through a holding season or two but recently kills all she goes to .Because of this ,she hasnt seen as much as i would like her to as i hate digging to a dead fox .A scared up face only serves to say " yes ive seen something "and shouldnt be the final word . Great thread this ,some excellent head studies and proof enough that the working terrier has a
  8. Ive only seen a couple of yearlings chasing yet .I am on the trail of a large buck at the moment but as they are want to do ,it is doing my head in as ive only had a fleeting glimpse since i saw it propper .Will have to get the buttalo out soon.Good luck to all this rut .
  9. A bit of the same thing the other evening myself .Stalking along a hedgerow between 2 fields of corn and i heard a deer run off on the other side .Got to a gap in the hedge and saw a buck out in the corn with direct eyeball on me .A doe was to his right and a third caght my eye as an ear flickered just yards away under a tree .It was a kid and as id not studied one this close i decided to do just that .It got up as the doe stamped her feet and i could see it was on 3 legs with a lifted front .A real cose look with the bins revealed a normal sized leg with no swelling and no breaks so i decided

  11. You'll not believe this but 29 too mate .Looks like being a good year .
  12. Got an invite from Martin off the site ,to have a go at some pigeons on some unripe wheat .Farmer is not a happy man as he can see the grey hordes from the farmhouse .We both had to work until roughly 4.30pm so a late start in some peoples opinion .Set up a few plastics and the magnet without ,as yet ,any birds on ,just in readiness .I know what its like on standing corn just trying to find a shot bird so the object was to drop any birds as they pitched so we could pick them .Plans involving animals/birds rarely go as planned and the first one shot was lost to our right in long grass .Managed

  14. Nice one mate .Hope your head was a bit clearer after that session too .
  15. Last Friday i had a call ,rather a plea for me to shoot a fox that has taken to killing chickens in a big way .Up to 15 a day by the patches of feathers i'd say. Went over for an evenings sit ,saw the bugger at distance but no shot presented itself despite ,sitting until dark . Another phone call yesterday to ask if i could snare the fox around the free-range organics . Got there at 6.30pm with a hand full of wires and several runs in mind .After a chat with the farmer ,i was on my way . The organic sheds are situated amongst a field of thistles and long grass ,the only clear patches are w
