  3. My £70 pounder is either 14 or 21 with a spare section .Reduce the price mate and you may sell them
  4. Squirrels are easily caught in tunnel traps with mk4 fenns. No bait just daylight at either end and set near a source of food or base of large tree where they frequent .Sick and tired of the feckers on our shoot but has to be done all year round to control any incomers .278 caught this year on a newly set up shoot with no previous pest control from 23 fenns rotated around 40 tunnels .
  5. Too late mate ,money spent .Will do a review when its had a good bit of use including the bottle usage .
  6. Locally ,its a night time noise ,heard by myself when out with the dogs from a nearby estate and yes it is a noise to stir the blood .
  7. Magical mate ,have to get myself one soon.
  8. Cheers mate .Roll on November now ,you still up for that mass cull.
  9. Cant believe nobodies eating rabbit without mushroom ,try it ,no need for anything else in the pie with that combo .
  10. Myself ,along with a few others who have written articles for Darcy books in the past, have the privilege of receiving books up front from the man himself .Having met the man and hunted with him it is very clear that he has a very good ,fact based knowledge of all things wild which stretches from flora to fauna .This book has been a long time in the making and the hours spent in its content,i know, would bore a lesser man but JD settles for nothing less than his take on perfection .The pictures throughout capture the very raw and rough struggle between the hare and running dog ,something whic
  11. Its higher than a £90 high seat Martin thats clear .
  12. Sorry mate ,its the 850 airmagnum fifle .Any good as im after one for the boy maybe !
  13. Out first thing this morning for a well earned stalk as its been work ,work ,work lately.Parked up between two farms and set off on a circuit ,meeting the farmer out moving the electric fence and making him jump a bit i think .Tried the lower ground here and as expected the usual does were out but no buck .Theres a very big buck here but he spends most of his time over the river on the neighbours and off piste as it were .No sign of him but saw five does and managed to stalk in very close in the fog .Up over the top and onto the next ground and was faced with a field full of deer looking v
  14. Working ability yes ,but not just any old ability .If this goes over your head then maybe the penny will drop one day or maybe you will be forever chasing that ideal cross .
  15. I think the finer points of depth and its lack of is lost on FTB.By the way ,a metre is a yard and 3 inches if we are splitting hairs .A reading of 2.1 that was really 3 1/2 foot would be cause for celebration on the rock we have to contend with in places .Dont let it stop you posting though mate ,just dont mention the depth .
  16. From experience mate and not hearsay .Keep the lamp at the foxes feet as it comes in and not directly on it .Turning it off allows the fox to see your outline and the game is over .Remember this-their eyesight is atuned to the night unlike our own and they have a mental picture of what should be on the skyline and where .Get your back against a tree if poss before calling as this will break up your background .Most foxes will pull up at some time when close to you and turn sideways .This is their escape strategy if something goes wrong .If they are within 30 yards then this is the time to shoo
  17. Several reasons for a blown lurcher ,the most commen is ruptured or torn diaphram. This can remedy itself but needs patience .The most serious is heart strain which never goes and renders the dog useless .Overmatching ,overuse and early starting all contribute to the causes .A dog in such a way will try hard but never really attains full speed and will only be good for very short bouts of excercise .Best avoided in the first place mate .
  18. Just thought i'd put this up as i like it ,taken stalking this morning
  19. Ok then ,i'll start with my take on this. There are ,believe it or not plenty of types within the breeds we have now so as not to need crossing one with another .Most types have taken years in the making so why would anyone in their right mind want to f**k it up with anything other than a near match .Balancing the good and bad points within a type is a lifetimes worth of experience easily f****d up by a chance mating just because the parents are workers .This fact is not enough in my eyes but seems to be enough for many these days .If you are saying why not put a good type over another good typ
  20. My first thoughts were the same as JR Yipp but didnt want to start the argueing.Maybe you are unconsiously converting the depth into feet and inches ,i know i do whatever the box used but whatever ,a good couple of outings there mate .
  21. Your piece of paper now entitles you to buy a lease from the forestry commission and 'manage' a beat somewhere .Whilst i have no problem with anyone furthering themselves ,i do have a gripe with the money men involved with this exam and the bigotry that goes with it in some circles .I have written on here before about it so dont intend to elaborate but i do hope you will spend time with an EXPERIENCED chap before thinking you are anything more than a novice .Paper ,although needed in this day and age in some places, will never replace time served .Not a personal attack mate and hope you enjo
  22. Maybe not but theres not many places you can put up a tall seat so what say to that
