    Called a doe in this morning ,very close in fact .The buck was there but very cautious which saved his life as the doe eventually twigged and ran off barking .

    Had the invite to try for a buck last Saturday ,down in not so sunny somerset.In fact ,first light was just like a winters day although not cold ,constant drizzle of the type that gets right in you . Arrived at Locals at 4.15 am for the journey of 45 minutes to his ground to coincide with daybreak .Spot on timing and we were lead out in position for a call just as the first true rays of light broke through the drizzle .As visabilty got better we saw a mature doe run up a hillock away from us,stop and look behind her, followed shortly by a young 4 pointer and good luck to him .They totally ign

    Hares are definately on the increase now that certain pesticides are banned but with the increase comes penalties .3 hares eat as much grass as a sheep in a day and the undisirables in the lurcher world cant resist a run on the stubbles which in turn leads to other misdemeanours if left unchallenged .Sad fact but hares DO need some form of control as i will no doubt get told soon as we are alive with them now .Leveret survival is at an all time high due to the increased fox control since the silly hunting ban .I love to see them but in moderation like everything else .
