  1. The start of the fishing season has seen a rise in the rat traffic into my lockup due to me having spilt a bag of groundbait i suspect but by setting a brace of fens just inside the door i am getting somewhere now and not seen or heard any sign in a week.Trapping used to be a big part of my life so its good to keep the eye in so to speak .
  2. Looks to be a heavy body weight there mate ,you had help carrying it out i suspect being of slight build as you are . Speak soon .
  3. Excellent as usual Hanna. The fact hes being fed will keep him around but the urge to wander will get the better of him soon .Make the most of him now .
  4. Very nice buck there mate ,good result.
  5. Just like to say that no fish were harmed in the taking of the pic before someone has to run it down ,all fish returned alive and well quickly by 3 more anglers and myself .Had a day on our local water today on the bream .Feeder fishing with worm as hook bait and maggots and corn in the mix .I like to use the maggots alive as i think it helps to keep the shoal infront for longer as they have to grub for the maggots in the silt .Started at 7 am and finished at 4pm with a guessed weight of 220 lb for 72 fish .No need to ball in here as its best to use the feeder to keep things tight .Fish went
  6. Quality heads there mate and nice to be out so early .
  7. Great head that mate and good account of a mornings stalk
  8. Far too solid an animal to be a yearling or even a young buck .The back has a slight dip not seen in youngsters and the neck is far too thick .The fact that he is not fully summer clean, combined with other facts would say hes older than any of the other guesses.Antlers are squat ,a grissled face ,although not a clear sign of age by any means but i would say hes on the downward side of life .
  9. Dont let him beat you mate as i will have to come up and show you how its done .Have you discounted midday as this is when i see some really nice bucks in undisturbed areas .Its easy to think of deer as first and last light movers but you know yourself theres always an exception .
  10. You still seeing plenty John? .Cant wait for the rut myself .
  11. http://www.wildaboutbritain.co.uk/forums/insects-and-invertebrates/24066-bumble-bee-mites.html Horrible little feckers
  12. The lad has the carcass mate so couldnt say .
  13. Further investigation would say i again spelt it wrong and it should be 'eyed' hawk as Jonno pointed out.Never seen one before i must say.
  14. Thanks for pointing that out mate ,a meer typing error on my part ,of course i meant poplar .
  15. Been watching a pair of wrens for quite a while at the nest in a wall right beside where we are working and in a section of wall that is doomed. After they are gone ,we are to demolish and rebuild it as its dangerous .Happene to be on first break when they started to leave ,first one of its own accord followed by another but the remaining three had to be lured out by the adluts later in the day .The old birds constantly visited the nest but with no food and perched just a bit away until eventually they all flew . the first to fly at 10.20 am Hes out ! Then another that made a full6 me
  16. lamping recently and found this hawk ,recently hatched id say ,possibly a female ? Wouldnt show the pink underwings at rest only when it flew to a nearby post but i wasnt quick enough with the phone .
  17. Would of liked to have seen him at his best to be honest but too late now .
  18. Took a mate out last evening that has, in the past showed me some very good sport of one kind or another including a very good fallow buck . Went to a place that i know holds a good buck and a few elusive munties.Stopped on the way to watch a decent buck near another piece of ground i have but not on it Walked through the tall crops at our destination very slowly as its easy to miss a buck when the crops are like this. Not a thing until i glassed a patch of rough beside a field of barley and spotted a muntie although at the range we were it was unclear as to the sex as it was ass on . Stalke
  19. Years ago when i was a lot younger we,as a family visited my grandparents in Wales ,Amroth to be precise for a holiday. My kid sister was in a pram one evening out on a patio in full veiw of everyone having a bbq when a fox came up a hedge towards her .My sister was stirring and softly crying as babies do when first waking ,probably sounding a bit lamb like .The fox ran and jumped onto the pram but luckily my uncle saw it and shouted it away .Animals react to sounds and the fox even more so being an oportunist .I believe this account as ive seen urban foxes being handfed and losing all respect
