Or learn the hard way .

And no ticks for me lol.I wear that crown all the time now being king of the sika callers lol and nearly finished that cigar. What a trip that was ,I'm going to get the 8 pointer shoulder mounted ,not the biggest head nor the shaggiest mane but a memory none the less as he was the last stag to come in .What Matt hadn't seen was a group of hinds being pursued by the first 2 stags to my left .One of the hinds jumped the fence to my left and the first stag followed her over which I high chest shot .The second came over the fence about 70 yds further on and was going to have a go at the fallen fi

You not satisfied with your black uns then mate . -
Cracking pups them mate .Hopefully they turn out well too .

There ain't many good terrier men that like to relinquish the graft even when they are knackered .

As far as I'm aware roe will only respond to the call just before ,during and a bit after the rut which down here is late July ,early August .The red roar should be well under way providing you have a bit of cold weather with you ,not freezing just a nip in the air mornings .If the reds went there its because the hinds have moved to their winter grounds and the stags have followed .Keep us posted mate .

He is a cracker mate .Not so keen on the open sights but each to the ire own and makes for a better hunter I guess .Well done . -
Egos yes mate, been guilty ,not necessarily a bad thing unless it goes to the extreme .Life has a way of keeping us grounded though as I've found out .Went through a few years thinking I'd cracked it with a good group of mates but how wrong can you be .I now have a handful of lads I speak to and never felt better .Just wish I was younger to get the best out of what I have now .I've met some first class terrier men but also some that love the sound of their own voice and havnt stepped up to expectations .I enjoy letting others talk ,and boy can some talk lol. I learned years ago never to pursue

Wise words from Matt .You need to put the time in mate as there's no substitute for experience although DSC holders will say different lol.A high seat is the most productive place to WATCH deer even from a distance and the initial outlay will be recouped in no time ,even if no deer are shot .This time of year with the red rut ,the noise will tell you where they are first light ,whether or not they are on your bit or over the boundary .They maybe using your patch at a certain time of day or passing through .Don't be too keen to shoot too many until you've patterened their comings and goings as

Saw one only recently cross the road in front of me at night .At first wondered what it was but saw the face as it looked at the lights .Dug one years ago that had a Grammy leg and no tail ,presumed snared at the time .Also saw a mink once with no tail but he got away from hounds .

I was 16 when I met the late Norman Dunn RIP .He. Had an allotment out the back of our house and kept all manner of stock on it ,when that was allowed lol.All the grub about obviously attracted rats and he routinely let his terriers have a root about ,black dogs from Mr Nuttal.I invited myself really lol. Got on well from the start but it was roughly 2 more years before he explained that the dogs were kept for greater things than the odd bit of ratting and I started off my digging career soon after on badgers which were legal then .Unlike others I got to know via him ,he was the only bloke wh

There is a condition in dogs ,all types of dogs, that is called reverse sneezing whereby the dog sneezes internally on the intake of breath when exercising .Some lines of terriers have it .It does not adversely affect work but gives the impression the dog is knackered far more than it is .I had it in my line years ago but thought I'd bred it out only for it to reappear lately. The dogs in question are good honest workers but would rather not hear the pug like snorting .The relatively new new blood from NS could have brought it in as I know some of his had it way back .Fitness seems to alleviat

As a pack out on exercise they will hunt anything but get them a collar on they are a changed animal .They know the crack .Have never dug a rabbit but I have dug to a rabbit whilst mooching in a shallow stop end which was broken up there and then .The best dog I owned was a bitch called Willow and was the result of mating one of mine to a Stevens bitch years ago .She was probably the result of me having loads of time for her and giving her the work

There ain't a terrier alive that won't work rabbit if given half a chance .Once started on bigger game its their choice to ignore them or not .

Good on you Mik ,proper made up for you.Could so easily have gone the other way if you hadn't grabbed him when you did , Years ago when beating on local estate in the grip of a bad winter one of the pickers up sent his spaniel out on to the frozen lake to retrieve a pheasant .The ice was white not clear like thick ice and the spaniel went through only yards from the bank .Unfortunately it struggled itself out under the ice and away from the bank .We never saw it again though the owner and a few more stayed there most the day .I was only a teenager but I wondered then why no one jumped in espe
