I prefer the gold flat curb chain on my collar, it's a little heavy at 16 ounces but the dog looks hard as f**k.....

Tape Up Collar To Black Out Flashing Light
lucky replied to rob84's topic in Earthdogs & Working Terriers
Maybe the owner of this dog had the same idea.... -
Most of the best dogs I've seen have been the ones that will risk everything for a kill, the type that are constantly striking, but they can incur a lot of injuries on certain land, and I've seen a few not make the veteran stage of life but at least they died with there heart racing full of adrenalin, and not had the chance to suffer old age and all that comes with it.

I remember reading an article years ago, I think it was in the countrymans weekly about a lad that was lamping with a Rottweiler, if my memory's right I think he had around 50 rabbits with it upto him writing the article. The funniest dog I know of for lamping was a Dalmatian x Greyhound a fella had near me that was marked exactly like a Dalmatian but it had a good reputation locally on the lamp.

I tried the long range deben when they first came out and found it very inaccurate, I just could not get on with it and the noise it made was enough to drive me mad, it was like something off a computer game. As for them being accurate upto 6" I don't think it makes much difference if you dig your hole big enough your gonna drop right on the dog anyway. I've used both the peips and barryvox and didn't see any difference really both had the same result. I've also heard the BCA tracker is very good value but I've not seen one used myself.

Tape Up Collar To Black Out Flashing Light
lucky replied to rob84's topic in Earthdogs & Working Terriers
The old deben collars had to be taped up to try and keep them water tight, but there's no reason to tape a B&F collar up. -

No because it's usually daylight when I'm out so it would be pointless.... -

Will A Pure Grey Be Any Good In The Field ?
lucky replied to Kemperz21's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
If I was you I would find a greyhound cross rather than a pure, there stamina is very limited. I've seen loads run but they were mainly ex track dogs and they were all shite, except for one that I was pretty impressed with until it's third run, a mate of mine had it and we were running some hares on big land, it killed its first 2 in fine style and could turn as good as any dog I've ever seen, and at a pace that would leave most lurchers for dead sadly it collapsed and died after missing its 3rd run, maybe a heart attack ?? But we will never know, a shame really because the same dog was very -

I've seen a good few dogs of a certain line dug to over the last couple of years and they all self enter at around 8 months, IMO I think it's far too early to start a dog but it doesn't seem to do these dogs any harm. The main rule I go by with pups is to keep them winning, it's far too easy to ruin a dog through your own over confidence.

I bet after reading this all the pedlars will be on eBay looking for tattoo guns.....lol

I don't think the authors of these books make as much money out of writing books as some people think, especially considering the time it must take to compile one, I bet the printers and publishers take the majority of the money. I've always enjoyed reading books related to hunting ever since I was old enough to read properly but back then it was much harder to get good quality books that weren't full of fiction, nowadays I think the quality of the books ( not all ) are miles better. Books do bring a certain amount of fame to the author but its how that author deals with it that proper opini

Whats Happened To Thls Earthdog Section?
lucky replied to BIG G wheton machine's topic in Earthdogs & Working Terriers
This site has gone right down the pan in the last couple of years, most of the decent lads that used to post on here don't bother because of all the silly replys and daft questions. It seems everybody's an expert these days, but the trouble is most have learnt everything they know on the Internet and not in the field, where they would of got a real education. It's sad how things have gone lately as this was in its a day a really good site where like minded people could have a bit of craic, now however its just another version of Facebook, where more threads on hunting appear in the summer th -
The dogs were all in good condition when they came back but the only bitch was much fatter than the dogs, so he's taking them all to his own vet to see if the bitch has been spayed and if any have been micro chipped, because aparently its not uncommon for them to do this without any consent from the owners ???
