  1. Yes think it's the Johnny bluck one, is it all interviews with the terrier men ??? Or just a load of bollocks like the Frain books I've read lol
  2. This one started well but soon turned to shit when it was time to up its game. http://i49.photobucket.com/albums/f257/beanobull/pic1_zps85e1fe48.jpg
  3. Hopefully your a good judge of character mate and can weigh people up on first impressions because there will be all sorts of dickheads trying to get that dog and if they do it will be up for sale as a digging dog, just started etc etc before you know it. Good luck in finding him a genuine home.
  4. Has anyone read the book and if so is it any good ?
  5. If a dog hasn't entered by the time it was 2 I would be having serious doubts about that dog. Proper line bred terriers should have the working seed planted firmly in there head and should be showing interest pretty quick. I guess me and my mates have just been lucky with the line we have because they would self enter far too young for my liking, they only need to be pegged out on a couple of digs and they want to go. P.S there not are line there a friends that has kept them pretty close bred for around 30 year, and he's done a great job of creating some cracking stock. Hopefully with the
  6. Usually they will only use there dogs on suitable bitches ! Don't worry though what that really means is bitches that are in season lol.
  7. There is some cracking terriers out there but there usually the ones you don't read about.
  8. . Just out of curiosity how many of them better dogs that started early are still around today??? As a lot of the younger dogs ive ever seen that started before 15/16 months, they started off great ended up being pts, ps that doesn't mean that all dogs that start young don't make the grade There's plenty still around very few have been pts but quite a few have died to ground. By 2 year old they will of had loads of work and they love it. I think if left til 2 to start they'd be very wreckless and a nightmare at home, there drive is unreal from 8 months on. This however is just my opi
  9. No way would I keep a dog over 2 years that still hasn't shown any interest, I don't believe all that bollocks either that early starters don't last long, that's an excuse people use that have kennels full of non starters. If you want the dog to really last even longer don't work it. The terriers me and my digging partner have now will self enter from 7 months onwards but we try to keep them back til around 12 month old then they will get a few easy digs and continue to be dug as much as possible from then on. Some don't last long but that's more to to with the style of there work etc but b
  10. At 2 year old I'd just continue digging it some of the better dogs I've seen have had loads of digs before they get to 2.
  11. It would mean a long time of waiting to find out its shit lol. Seriously though IMO 2 years is far too long, the best way is to let the dog decide when it's ready then it's down to the owner to keep it winning while it gains in experience. I don't think early or late entering will decide on the dogs style of work that's more to do with breeding and the amount of work the dog is given.
  12. Put the size up it might help you sell them better.
  13. Just wondered if the ford ranger will run ok on bio diesel ?, it's the earlier model with the 2.5 tdi engine same as mazda I think.
  14. Has there ever been a bitch in Barnsley gone through a season with out being lined lol
  15. Lol I learnt to always let the younger lads use the shovel, I prefer the site Forman job now ha ha
  16. With the present climate I doubt you will get many offers mate, just get yourself and the dog out mooching about and you'll learn a lot off each other. When I got my first dog it was just me and the dog for the first couple of years and I can honestly say I learnt quite a lot during that time but I was keen as mustard and out every opurtunity I got.
  17. I bet there's loads of lads on here that haven't had a fox all season but as soon as cubs are about they'll be posting pics on here under the title "had a call out", claiming they had to kill them or they'd loose there permission etc etc.
  18. There's a saying "you get what you pay for" unfortunately in the working dog world it usually means the more you pay the the bigger the piece of shite you get lol.
  19. I've used them in the past with varied success, usually an adapted strimmer or Stihl saw. Sometimes we would get loads bolting but sometimes a lot would die or walk out as if they were on ketamine lol. I found that if there was too much 2 stroke in the fuel it would oil the spark plug up causing the engine to cut out. The best method I ever seen for getting them to bolt was with petrol, we got invited by a keeper to do a load of release pens and all the keeper had was a spray bottle full of petrol and a lighter. He would quickly walk round putting a couple of sprays into each hole then lig
  20. I used to be out with the dog and ferrets before school and then straight back out as soon as I got home, and then a bit of lamping later that night. On a weekend me and a couple of mates would walk with a range of dogs and ferrets about 12 mile to a place called Esholt, spend all day there harassing the rabbits and the odd hare if we were lucky, then after a glass of pop in the woolpack we would walk all the way home carrying whatever we'd caught. Nothing got left, even the mixy rabbits made it home. When I think back the dogs I had then must of been as fit as you could ever get and I don
  21. True 2 jackers might produce something special but how often does that happen ?? If your looking to improve your chances of getting something good you have to look way beyond the sire and dam and look at the whole family. And if that line has been producing a high percentage of quality then your in with a chance.
