A mirror works well, but of course it's not technically legal (Wildlife & Countryside Act 1981). A fake nest often works, if not, take a look at the pinned thread in the trapping section and see if anyone has a call bird available near you.

Just to clarify; cats are classified as 'property' in law, and unlike dogs, their owners cannot be held liable for their actions. If your dog accidentally kills a cat you may be guilty of having a dog out of control in a public place, and criminal damage (whether on public or private property). A cat can only be deemed 'feral' if it has no owner and is living wild. If controlling feral cats, the onus is on the person killing it to make sure they've carried out 'reasonable' measures to ensure the animal is definitely feral. You also have a legal responsibility to make sure your actions

Never mentioned lying to a court of law mate. We were talking about lying to us. To prompt a confession. People including yourself have said the police aren't allowed to lie. Suggesting that they don't. But they do Actually, no Go back and read what I've written properly Police officers are as capable and willing to lie as anyone else. The thing is, if they get caught out, they are in proportionally more trouble than anyone else . Ever heard the term 'breech of trust'? The fact that a police officer may lie (indirectly, or directly) 'off the record' in order

If you can prove that a police officer has lied to a court of law then they would end up in very serious trouble As always, the difficulty is in proving anything There are liars and cheats in all walks of life; some find excuses for it, others don't bother. All unimportant really, as we do not know all the facts.

I think the exemption only applies to using a dog to flush to guns (not nets). But I'd be happy to be proved wrong. The bottom line is if you were somewhere you were supposed to be, doing something you can prove is legal, then you should have absolutely nothing to worry about. If you weren't, then speak to a good solicitor and provide him or her with adequate information to prove a defence. As others have already said, the police are not allowed to lie when they are taking a statement. They can however, use 'tactics' to try and convince you that it would be better to come clean a

EK, the reason why one organisation is pushing the issue is that it's founder wants to make a name for himself. Changing the law to enforce 24 hour trap checks will do nothing for welfare. If you're not already a member, I'd strongly urge you to join the APMC which campaigns to protect professional molecatchers from idiots like JN.

Iep Report On The Badger Cull; Was The Cull Ever About Btb?
Matt replied to Kitsune's topic in General Talk
Someone posting on this thread is just repeating lies and propaganda posted by animal rights loons I'll leave it to you, the reader, to work out who Oh, and Kitty, dear, what you know about culling badgers and perturbation would fit on the back of a postage stamp; so when you've got some credible opinions of your own, that don't rely on cut and pastes from 'other' sources, please feel free to come back and tell me where we've gone wrong. In the meantime, I'll get back to my legal work culling badger vermin that's infecting our cattle with a disease that will soon infect humans as -
Iep Report On The Badger Cull; Was The Cull Ever About Btb?

I'll bow to your obviously better knowledge and experience Kit. Especially since I don't have a degree in Environmental Science You crack on. You obviously know much more about culling badgers and controlling disease than me -
Iep Report On The Badger Cull; Was The Cull Ever About Btb?
Matt replied to Kitsune's topic in General Talk
Cage trapping wasn't an 'addition'. It was planned from the start as an already proven humane and effective way of reducing the population. -
Iep Report On The Badger Cull; Was The Cull Ever About Btb?
Matt replied to Kitsune's topic in General Talk
Please go back and read what I've written.... the trials can only be considered any sort of failure if you accept that the population targets were correct, and that dead animals can't move. I suggest you stop reading the propaganda put about by animal rights idiots, and start actually trying to understand the scale of the TB problem. What makes badgers any different to any other large mammal in the UK? If foxes carried TB and spread it in the same way as badgers do, would you be condemning fox control? Given the fact that the majority of chest shot deer run anything including at -
Iep Report On The Badger Cull; Was The Cull Ever About Btb?
Matt replied to Kitsune's topic in General Talk
Short of what? Short of the target set by people who couldn't tell the difference between a rabbit hole and a badger sett? Or short of the presumed 6.5 badgers that lived in each of the setts (which had already been misidentified)? -
Someone needs to lay off the sauce

Iep Report On The Badger Cull; Was The Cull Ever About Btb?
Matt replied to Kitsune's topic in General Talk
Oh dear, oh dear, oh dear....... Where do I begin?? Well firstly, let's just clarify the 'failure' thing....... How was it a failure? In Somerset, the actual figure was between 70-% of the population killed. The problem is that the 'target' was set by numpties who couldn't count their own fingers and toes....... by the admission of the IEP, at least 30% of holes were incorrectly attributed to badgers; add to that some dodgy maths, where each set was supposed to contain 6.5 badgers, and you can see why the target figure was so far out........ Then let's just mention the hum -
Not quite correct fella There is one organisation, that has gone running off to the RSPCA to claim that pest controllers are all evil for not agreeing to 24 hour trap checking for rat mouse and mole traps. Their motives are unknown, but widely speculated upon. To the original poster, I'd just ask, why?

Unless it falls within the scope of the Small Ground Vermin Traps Order 1958. Ignorance is no defence in law. Anyone setting any trap of any kind should make it their business to familiarise themselves fully with their legal duties

Sorry, but I'm not Google Do a search, and understand the law before you set traps

Not all body grippers are legal to use in the UK. Only those makes and models actually listed on the STAO are legal to use.

Wood, wire, or natural materials Some of the best tunnels I've seen have been based on stone through walls and next to gates etc... Whatever you do, make sure it's a nice 'snug' fit........ a simple three sided wooden tunnel is the good basis for many more natural looking tunnels and is fairly inexpensive to produce
