  1. good stuff...well if their what we want ile have 50 for starters.... but then ive never seen or handled a real duffas so ime buggerd if i know what their like but like i say i know what i would like in a trap (the bottom of the loops flattened off is defo not it!) Mr Wasp posted some pictures of the real thing not long ago.... 45+ years old, and you could set it and catch a mole in it better than any of the copies of copies that are on sale today.
  2. 1. I'm not sure yet; I'd rather go to them with some idea of the market first. 2. Much the same as you guys. A trap that is actually similar to the original Duffus trap rather than the mass produced crap they all call 'Duffus' traps now....
  3. Still working on this guys.... was on the phone to Mr Wasp earlier and will try and make the call to FP later this week.. Watch this space.
  4. There is a world of difference between having waste removed from your stores by a licensed contractor, and becoming a waste removal contractor just to replace a mouse box or some unused bait.... I used to have an arrangement for the removal of my 'controlled waste' from the stores, and always tried to minimise it. You also have to register with the EA for the storage of hazardous waste, which is not a big problem in itself, but the thought of having to produce transfer notes when you change an EFK tube or uplift some competitors mouse boxes is just hideous in my opinion. Why are the
  5. The whole point is about the removal of 'waste' SGARs and items deemed to be contaminated by them from client sites. Regardless of what you do with the waste produced at your stores, it looks like you will now have to issue a transfer note to your client when you remove bait boxes and 'spent' bait from their premises. In addition, you now have to register as a waste carrier as you are transporting the waste which has been transferred from another business. It's all nonsense. Why the EA have suddenly decided to create all this red tape is the question pest controllers should be a
  6. There is no law to say you have to use disposable PPE when applying pesticides. Polycotton (machine washable) coveralls, nitrile guantlets etc, they are all reusable. I don't think an empty plastic bag from a tub of Ficam D would contain enough pesticide to make it hazardous waste; the issue is more around the reclassification of second generation rodenticides from 'controlled' waste to hazardous waste. Without a doubt, anyone using pesticides is at some point going to produce a small amount of waste, but you aren't going to have to issue transfer notes to customers for that.
  7. North or South of the Taw Jack? I had my first the other week.
  8. What would you trappers like to see that's different? For me, it's the width of the barrel, the gap between the loops and all the other usual stuff...
  9. Thanks for the compliment; but I have no commercial interest in selling mole traps these days. I would however, like a trap that is fit for purpose, which I think is what is currently missing from the UK market. If other trappers want to get involved then so much the better I can't imagine that any manufacturer is going to enter into serious re-tooling for the sake of selling me a few traps every year to top up my stocks. It would need a few of us together who were prepared to commit to buying a sufficient number to make it worthwhile. I'll have a word with them later this week and
  10. In a word, no.... The FP traps use much harder material for the trigger loops, which makes them harder to tune up than the BR trap... on the flip side of that, the BR trigger loops have got softer and softer, and I've started finding that moles are actually bending them either when caught, or on the odd occasion when you get a blocked trap. I'm tempted to ask FP to produce a trap which has the same dimensions as the original JND trap, with a sensible half inch gap between the catching loops when the trap is not set, and would require little or no tuning up. An added bonus could be st
  11. Has anyone else noticed an increase in doubles in the last week? I think love is in the air...
  12. I doubt it earthy... I spoke to a chap in the works last year and his attitude was "well that's the way we've always done it" which speaks volumes... I spoke to them again in September and they told me that they weren't taking on new customers because they couldn't keep up with the demand they had at that time, so I'm guessing they won't want to add to manufacture time by improving the build quality. Funnily enough, I was thinking about this the other day and am now seriously considering having a word with Flat Pack to see if they would be interested in producing a trap more ak
  13. Does nature stay the same colour all year round in Ireland then Pete? Just a thought...... As ole 'herry' (love that one!) says, an interesting topic no matter what your opinion on camo is
  14. That is sound advice You do not have to put up with this the problem is being caused by your neighbour, and they have a legal responsibility to sort it out. The fact that the council pest controller is struggling to get bait take suggests that there is an alternative food source. Bins and litter are the obvious likely problem. Get the local Environmental Health Officer involved and don't take 'no' for an answer. Your first port of call should be the EHO rather than ebay. Ask them to come around to discuss the issue and take it from there.
  15. To the OP; how do you know the poison isn't working? Most people underestimate the size of rat infestations, and the baiting works on a 'cumulative' basis. The sad fact is that you have a significant attractant (food source) on your doorstep, so reinftestation is a factor to consider. They council saying that they are litter picking is not enough; demand to see what actual action is being taken to sort out the existing problem. Local Authorities have a Statutory Duty of Care and a legal duty to enforce the law.
  16. Another potentially interesting thread ruined. Locked.
  17. Lets just clear this one up once and for all Micky. You posted some pictures of rabbits caught with Imbra traps, to use your own description "under a fence". I simply asked what type of tunnels you were using with your Imbras because they are a difficult trap to fit into a man-made tunnel and you got upset about it. Now, for the final time I'm going to make this clear. If anyone puts pictures of trapped quarry on here, it's a perfectly reasonable question to ask what sort of tunnel or cubby was used as it's a legal requirement to do so when not trapping in burrows.
  18. No need for that........... but perhaps you could try being a little less aggressive with other forum members when they ask sensible and legitimate questions
  19. This is a discussion forum, and as such, it's somewhere to discuss methods, equipment, techniques and the legalities of what we do. It would be a pretty dull place if people were made to feel that it's not acceptable to ask questions. Showing photos of exploits is great, but so is an explanation to go with it. Tunnels or cubbies are an integral part of trapping with kill traps in the UK and it doesn't seem unreasonable for people to ask legitimate questions about it. It begs the question of why people post anything? Is it to get a slap on the back and a "well done" comment, or t
  20. Expensive way of trapping rats IMO Better off with wires or breakbacks The 55's would be an outstanding traps for squirrels if (or when) they were approved for that purpose
  21. Being a hunting site doesn't make it above the law of the land. It's the same for all the sections of the forum; make sure what you post is legal and there is no problem.
  22. Impressive, as always Woodga.. Hope you've got a good market for all that bunny flesh.....
  23. Strychnine is/was water soluble, so your theory sounds plausible and the fact that the dog survived also suggests the poison was diluted, which all adds up. There were some cowboys that used to use the stuff, of that there is no doubt... Good on you saving the dog though credit where it's due
  24. I've often seen this. It's why Strychnine was so good at clearing moles......... mole runs along tunnel looking for food, comes across dead body and has a good feed or two... with Strychnine you got that 'knock on' effect.
  25. Ah, thanks Pete I knew I'd seen it and thought it was Bateman.... It's something I've never tried myself; I'd be interested to know if anyone else has?
