  1. I bet you've yanked your plank over that a few times Matt...stop playing Mr Innocent! Nah, I save all my 'yanking' for those Warrener classics.......
  2. If you can get hold of a copy of 'Bodygripper Basics' (no, it's not a nineties porn classic ) I think Glen Waters goes through various cost effective options for mounting bodygrippers... If I remember correctly, he advises using the steel banding commonly used to strap up pallets to make cheap and simple killer clips. Someone better informed on the use of BG traps may remember better than me...
  3. Wasn't there a bit of an issue with the approval of the DOC trap as well? I seem to recall you had to use a particular tunnel type that was only available from DOC themselves?
  4. Love that Socks. Simple & effective
  5. Wild animals are exempt Even if it wasn't; it would be 'controlled waste' so no big issue
  6. Not this time Pete. I can't be arsed.
  7. Is it approved for Red Mite now then? It never used to be, but I know there was some talk of a label change It's another professional use only product, but I know that it was being recommended by some suppliers at one stage and one of them got into trouble because of the lack of approval. The best results I know of are with DE. People use it as a treatment for the structure and also as a dust bath for the birds themselves. I've also seen it used in commercial poultry units
  8. Spot on Harmless little creatures; whack some sharp sand down there and they'll no longer be a problem and the lawn will improve
  9. It's legal to buy it, but not legal to use it unless you fit the criteria on the label.
  10. Here ye go Foxdropper: http://www.nationalgamekeepers.org.uk/media/uploads/cat-249/KtBautumn12-p26-27SnaringTrapping.pdf[\url]
  11. Don't forget that Fenns must have a tunnel over them by law The tunnel not only stops non targets stepping on the trigger plate, but also gives the trap something to work against. A few Fenns around livestock areas to pick up passing rats is a good idea. Trying to get control of a rat problem in a domestic situation with traps alone isn't; especially if it's new to you.
  12. The log tunnel is outstanding A great idea, which I'm sure will produce good results. That green box looks far to complicated and unnatural to me; simplicity always produces the best results, and I'd go for a three sided tunnel to be used as the basis for something more natural.
  13. Make sure you get permission from the landowner first The best trap to use is the one you are most confident and competent with Any of the british made half barrel traps are OK once they've been tuned up a bit; avoid the far eastern made (big cheese, proctor etc) ones as they are very poor quality. The Talpex (dutch) and Talpa (Pakistani) traps are popular and easy to use. Fenn scissors and Eliza Tinsley (are they still around?) are OK, as are the US made Trapline.
  14. One rat is an infestation In terms of safety, an average size dog would have to eat getting on for a kilo of bait for it to have any significant effect on it, and probably twice it's own weight in baited rats. As I said earlier, live rats are more dangerous to pets than properly used rodenticides. Get it sorted; it may seem like fun to shoot a few, but in a domestic situation those rats are leaving a trail of bacteria laden urine all over the place and need professional treatment ASAP.
  15. Wrong. Modern rodenticides, correctly used represent less of a danger to dogs than rat infestations. Most local authorities offer free or subsidised pest control services, so they would be a good first port of call.
  16. I've caught plenty using snares made for rabbits... the figure 4 trigger is deadly, as are some of the more simple types of trigger.
  17. You were told wrong Creosote is now a professional only product, meaning you can't do as you describe
  18. I'm going to follow the sound advice by Pete.....otherwise I may end up reminding people that it wasn't just rats, and that they obviously know feck all about 'poison'.... Scum is scum, and I only hope they rot in prison where they belong.... Damn, I've gone and said it.
  19. Baiting (even rats) has been illegal for a very long time. True sportsmen respect their quarry. From what the judge has said, these cretins respect nothing and deserve everything they get. Regardless of my opinion of the ARSEPCA, I loath animal cruelty. As a hunter, and one who has killed an awful lot of animals, I'm proud to say that I've always respected the animals I've killed and minimised any suffering. These scumbags give all true sportsmen a bad name.
  20. But it can't be legally used by hobbyists or homeowners It's now a 'professional use' only product and the smallest quantity it's sold in is 25 litres
  21. Creosote is corrosive.....
  22. Whatever you use make sure the label says you can use it for red mite and if it says don't treat animals, then don't. Creosote used to help on wooden runs etc, but it's now only available in limited circumstances. DE is pretty good, and the birds can use it for dusting. A product called OA2Ki is widely available, safe, and effective.
  23. Don't forget those nice tight holes All the changes have been made from the original have been to ease the manufacturing process rather than improve the trap.... I wish I had a bit of money. I'd set someone up making the real deal and they'd sell like hotcakes....
