I’ve got no time for any of them, if they all disappeared tomorrow it wouldn’t make one iota of difference to my life. Im a believer in “power corrupts and absolute power absolutely corrupts”, and the Royals may not have the legal or constitutional power and haven’t since Charles the second, but they have massive influence on the establishment, but I cant see how making Beatrice queen would be accepted and how it would be any improvement. 9/11 I was in my office on Jeddah Airport in Saudi and my son ‘phoned me from his office in the British Consulate in Saudi and said “Dad, put your tv on, they are bombing America, we are going into total lockdown, I will call you when I can “ ! My office quickly filled up with people of all nationalities as the drama unfolded. Then we got the order that the Airline was going into lockdown , all flights cancelled, any aircraft in the air to head for the nearest “friendly “ airport and land. For a while it really looked like WW3 had started. Cheers.

My older brother had to convert to Catholicism to marry his catholic girlfriend, came the full circle. I was christened at the Venerable Bede in Jarrow, but am an atheist, but I had to show proof of religion , basically that I wasn’t a Jew, when I went to work for the Saudis in the 70’s, so my baptism certificate was accepted even though I’m a non believer ! Shows how daft it all is ! Cheers.

We used to have sectarianism here in Newcastle back in the 50’s and 60’s. In my own family, who were Irish immigrants, some were Catholic, others became Protestant, but these days most people look at sectarianism as an anachronism that is only seen in places like Glasgow and Northern Ireland. The “new” sectarianism is between Christianity and Islam. Sadly, Christianity is on the decline in the UK and Islam is on the rise. We shouldn’t be worried about the different branches of Christianity, but of the Islamification of our country. Cheers.

I don’t know of the group you mention, but I’d guess, and it’s only MY opinion, that 99.9% of these lodges, groups, societies, etc, are just like us here on THL; people with a broadly similar outlook on life, discussing things that interest them, pretty harmless in the grand scheme of things. To be fair, Len, I watched Gove’s statement to Parliament today and they aren’t “laws” they are recommendations to look into some groups who may be classed as extremist and to make sure that no government money goes to them. It came across as very vague as to what will be classed as “extremist “ and the general opinion is that if the government tried to make it law, it would never get the votes to pass. I retired 20 years ago, aged 51. I think the secret to retirement is to keep busy with something you enjoy. Ive got the dogs, two allotments with hens, ducks, quail and a few game fowl, I like to grow veggies, it’s almost a full time job, but I enjoy it. I just thought one day “ kids are gone, house is paid for, bit money in the bank, keep my travel benefits with the airline, why work until I’m too old to enjoy my retirement ?” I wanted to retire at 50, but was asked to stay on for a year, which in retrospect was a good thing, it gave me time to be sure I was doing the righ

I’m not sure about paying criminals for breaking the law. Whats to stop them using some of the money they got from the government to get back to France and do it all over again ? If they accepted the deal, they would have to consent to having their fingerprints, DNA and biometrics taken and sign a declaration that if they ever returned they would be denied the right of appeal, denied legal aid and deported immediately; but this would never happen as the Left and the European Courts would never allow it. Why can’t we just deport them if they are illegal ? Other counties do it.

The illegals that are already here have paid around twice the money the government are offering them to get here to start with; they’ve seen what a soft touch we are, putting them up in hotels, feeding them , giving them free medical and dental treatments, pocket money, etc . How many of them will be stupid enough to give it all up to be shipped off to an African shithole for the relatively trivial sum of £3k ? A rhetorical question as I’m guessing none of them will take up the offer ! Cheers.
