Cheers. so if your now saying you wouldnt run your dogs in these conditions why say at the start to go out and run his dog on loan on hard ground youve contradicted yourself there bud YES IN A TREAD WHERE SOMEONES ASKING IF THE GROUND IS TO HARD TO RUN ON,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,NOTHING TO DO WITH WIND OR RAIN OR ATMOSTPHERIC PRESSURE,, WE DONT ALL WAIT FOR THE PERFECT NIGHT REGARDLESS OF WHAT YOU THINK,,

ITS PRETTY SIMPLE WHEN YOU THINK ABOUT IT,, ANYONE WITH HALF A B

YEP JUST SHOWS I CAN BE AS TOUCHY AS ANY ONE but for you to imply im JUMPING ON A BANDWAGON cos i dont agree with you ,,,, well thats just pathetic . But I can't remember telling anyone in this thread to "get f****d"....... Cheers.

OK, Turnerboi, the general opinion seems to be that you don't run your dog until the conditions are perfect ! Sorry if my reply seems to have hijacked your thread somewhat. Best of luck with the dog ! Cheers.

Another no brained reply,,, agreed , no wind , full moon is one thing,, all your doing is making the job harder,,,, but frozen hard ground is just stupid ,, Tomo; don't jump on the bandwagon, mate ! My point was to many people make excuses NOT to go out ! Of course if the conditions are to bad you don't go ! But we've ALL went out in less than perfect conditions. Cheers.

SH, yeah, all's well, couldn't be better in fact ! I know when to run my dogs, their injury record will probably back that up. As I said to the other guy...If you wait for the perfect nigt, you'll never run your dog ! You obviously have a problem with me over the lamping comp, but I thought that was sorted ? Never mind, there's more important things in my life ! Cheers.

I would agree,, apart from the frost,, a light frost on surface grass fair enough but when its a deeep frost with solid ground beneeth the surface then it aint worth it. Just smash there feet up. I'm not saying run a dog in dangerous conditions, but I go out on full moon, windless nights ! Of course you don't get the bags, but at least you're out ! And the dogs are getting a run, rather than lying in their kennels ! To many people make excuses NOT to go out ! Cheers. Backpeddler of the month award goes to you lol,,,, the grounds too hard end of,, so noones making exc

Firstly; I would NEVER lend a dog to anyone ! Secondly; if I was stupid enough to lend a dog to some one; I would have to accept the consequences ! Cheers.

thats your own choice when its your dog that might get injured but different story when the dog is only on loan to him So when IS he going to take it out ? Lurchers, by the very nature of their work, are going to get injured if they are worked, even in the best of conditions ! Lurcher owners get slagged for "summer hunting", yet worry about working a dog in the winter, "the season" ! Of course I put the dogs health and wellbeing first, but don't wrap them in cotton wool ! They are "working dogs", after all !! Cheers.

Grounds to hard, grounds to soft, grounds to stony, moons up, to frosty, no wind, to much rain, not enough rain, etc, etc, etc, !! FFS !! Get out whenever you want ! Don't worry about getting "the perfect night", or you'll NEVER get out ! Cheers.

bloody hell chartpolski, youl be giving the half wits on here cold sweats using words like elucidate, could you throw some light upon what this means...just to clear things up Well; Johnathan, like you, seems to be an educated man ! So lets keep the conversation between people who understand ! Let the "half wits" look on and wonder what life would have been like if they had went to school !! Cheers. Chartpolski, there are several mistakes in your post. Firstly, you appear to be unaware of the purpose of a semicolon. Secondly, there should be an apostrophe between the 't' and

look am not trying to be nasty all i have asked for is some friendly advice and all you seem to be doing is taking the piss ok. I have had no experirnse with the pure bred saluki n who are you are you to say that my dog is badly socialised when you know nothing about me so can you keep your own comments to urself plz Hold on, mate !! Read back thru' the thread, and you'll see it wasn't me who mentioned "socializing" your dogs !! Cheers.

Is it just me, or has there been some severe editing of this thread ? Cheers.

Johnathan, could you elucidate on your experiences with the Arabian Gazzele Hound and the Scottish Deerhound ? I've heard they are heavily into the pedigrees of the American Coyote Hound; along with Borzoi and Whippet. Is this true ? Cheers.

Patience, patience, patience ! If these are your first running dogs, then I think you have picked the wrong breed, and trying to bring on two pups only doubles the problems ! What you have described is typical of Saluki's ! In the right hands, they can be great dogs; in the wrong hands, a nightmare ! And if you wanted lamping dogs...... you have made a big mistake !! O.K., the Saluki lads will say they can lamp..... but there are far better dogs for lamping than pure Salukis !! Cheers.

No offense but that seems like a bit of a backward approach to breeding and the biggest reason our uk deerhound types don't match those in the US and AUS. Surely better to breed deerhoundsX to deerhound X's worker to worker, if that had always been the way we would still have something of the qualities that deerhounds and greyhounds of old once had when they were all coursing hunting dogs. What is the point of going to first cross time and time again when the quality of deerhounds and greyhounds for hunting gets poorer with every generation. You could be right; IF the breeder

If your bitch is "a tad small at 31" and 130pns, (lb's ?)," then perhaps it's an Irish Wolfhound you have, not a Scottish Deerhound ! Cheers.

I'd be supprised if there is any genuine working Deerhounds in this country now. I would think the Doxhope dogs were the last ones worked regularly to a good degree. That doesn't mean we shouldn't use the Deerhound in Lurcher breeding ! Look for a well bred Deerhound from working breeding, even if it hasn't worked itself, and put it to a good class Greyhound, and give the pup the best upbringing and entering you can; and you should have a decent dog ! Cheers.

It's OK to have as many dogs as you want, as long as you can afford to feed them properly, can afford the vet bills or insurance; can give them proper kenneling and have enough work for them or can give them the excersize they need. I've had three dogs before, but prefer to have two; but thats just my preference. Cheers.

Mmmm..... thanks So most of the medals they display don't really mean anything...... Philip has at least five campaign medals that he earned during WW2, but, yes, most of the others are honary. Cheers. charles did northern ireland .. edward and andrew the falklands will and harry the lastest campaigns .. Charles, Edward and William have no campaign medals. Andrew has the South Atlantic Medal, and Harry has the Afgahnistan Medal. Cheers.
