chartpolski replied to GrCh's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
Completely different types mate ! The English Stag is hunted in packs, just like the Foxhound, except the quarry was Red Deer. The Overseas Stag is a running, coursing type Cheers. cheers chart just like the look of it in ya pick is ther any suluki in it with the looks of its ears I don't think so; the working Saluki isn't that popular in Oz, I can't understand, when they have land like this to run; Cheers. -

A "Staghound" in the UK is a large type of foxhound, used for hunting Red Deer, in packs. A Deerhound is a purebred sight hound. Cheers. -
Looks like a cross section of running dogs; Greyhound type, Deerhound type, Borzoi type, etc !! Be nice to see all of them ! Cheers.

Don't worry about it mate !! It's just banter !! Didn't you know.....we're ALL experts on here !! LOL !! Cheers.

Anyone who thinks they know it all and don't read books; is a fool !! Apart from being informative and interesting, books can also just be enjoyable and relaxing !! I have some classic dog/hunting books; and when the telly is shite, (as it often is !! LOL !!) , I'll pick up a book and have a bit read ! Some books can be read over and over again, and even Plummers books are a great read, if you don't take everything he says as Gospel !! Cheers.

Running two dogs on a hare, on the lamp !!! Oooooohhhh, the purists are going to be all over you, like a bad rash !! LOL !! I expect it's just 'cause she's young, mate; she'll tighten up with practice. Cheers. -
But the lads aren't hunting in the "Mystical Lands O'er The Border" where only your dogs can catch the "Mythical Beasties" that inhabit that Brigadoon like land !! The lads are having fun, doing a bit with their dogs, and are rightly proud of them !! Give it a rest Whin, your dogs are no better, no worse than anyone elses, and your land is no more difficult than any where else. Cheers.

lurcher pups free to good home
chartpolski replied to lamping lurchers's topic in Working Dogs & Livestock
Not realy... seen some cracking working Borders around 18-21" Cheers. Fairplay. The dogs we always had, and the ones you see around here are usually a good bit bigger than that, at least the dogs are anyway. You do get some smaller, lighter bitches. But most of the workers have got a bit of leg and bulk about them. Seen a lot of little runty looking pet collies though. Heres the breed standard; 21" for dogs, smaller for bitches; http://www.bordercollieclub.com/bordercolliebreedstandard.html You do get some a lot bigger, but when I've been to trials, I've been -

Surplus & Outdoors do a few types. They are genuine Military, not the toys you can buy at some places. Not sure how strong they are, but maybe OK as a back -up; http://www.surplusandoutdoors.com/shop/army-surplus-uk/military-hardware.html Cheers.

Very unimpressed !! And with that amount of land and building, they could have some decent kennels !! Cheers.

High Intensity Discharge. You can buy them, or have your own lamp converted by fitting a ballast and HID bulb. It costs about the same price as the lamp to convert , so it's fairly expensive, and to tell the truth, they're no better than a normal lamp for price/performance. Cheers.

The bad news for the Mackems is they've just let a one goal lead turn into a two - one defeat at Wolves ! Cheers.

A lot of the Non-Ped Whippet lads use the "bone man", and swear by them. Haven't seen it my self, but they use some sort of ultrasonic "pen" to locate pinched nerves, etc. Cheers.

You could stand that dog a lot better.... but it's not a show dog, and it looks like a realy nice type !I'd like to see some better pics of it. Cheers.

crackin hound, my bollocks are in the post Cheers mate, but she may be the best looking bitch in my kennel..... but this little bitch is the best grafter; Cheers.

Whin, I and my dogs have been out with the best, I still get invited out by the guys, but I'm getting a bit old to keep up with the young'uns ! But I still do more than most. I wouldn't go up to see you, as two close friends have done it and advised against it ! You should either open your mind ..or say nothing...as nothing is set in stone !! There is good dogs from every cross, and good dog men, young or old !! A laugh is a laugh, but you do seem to be even more set in your ways than I am !! LOL !! Cheers.

The moder Irish Wolfhound is a modern breed, as the origional Wolfhound died out with the wolf in these Isles ! The modern dog was/is a result of crossing the Deerhound/Great Dane and Masstif. In this country they are worse than useless..... they are known as "Heartbreak Dogs", because of their short lives and propensity to disease, especialy cancer ! Fair do's; in Australia, they are crossed with other dogs; 'Danes, Bulls, etct, as pig dogs... but here in the UK they are simply VERY expensive pets !! Delta with an Irish Wolfhound. You can tell by the look on her face, she thought I w

Whin: Tomo and Andy seem to have succesfully bred the coursing, Saluki, stock into the lamping types. Their Minshaw/Coursing/Collie types are doing as well, if not better, than any others...so why not talk to these lads for an outcross to your type ? They are genuine lads, who look to promote the Lurcher strain. Cheers.
