Ok, maybe this should be in the "Hunting" section, but the Lurchers WERE there ! LOL ! We had a run over to Otterburn fot the Borders Boxing Day Meet; Master with Hounds; Hot toddys all round !!; Santa arriving; Handing presents out to all the local kids; Lurchers meeting the Hounds; Terrier men awaiting the off; A cold, dry morning with a good turnout ! Cheers.

I can't understand why the government doesn't allow us to have whatever plate we want, within reason. It could be a great money spinner for them; just imagine if they let you make up your own plate for, say, £500; loads would do it ! My pal in the 'states has "crazyhorse" as his plate, it's registered to his car, just the same as abc123 would be here !! I'm not sure if they would allow "OWLDFART" as a plate for me, though !! LOL !! Cheers.

It hasn't gone wrong, Bob, We are still breeding and working some top class Lurchers ! There will allways be people who keep the game going; just as there are people who have kept the Non-Peds going since the haydays of racing. Cheers.

chartpolski replied to NATACC's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
My mate Kevin, from Benton , went out with Ron for a run and had his dog "Brin" with hin. Brin was one of the best dogs I've seen, did the "four tricks" and was mustard on daytime hares, but he came back full of praise for the "Assasin ", so he must have been some dog !! Cheers. -

Bill, I did think the Saluki was a bit straight in the rear leg, but he was a typical example of the Beduin Salukis that he was running with back then He had endless stamina, but was the most "untractable" dog I have ever owned ! LOL ! Cheers. -

And I can also remember the "Assasin", "Widdrington Train", and a few other dogs back in them old days ! They wern't racers, but boy, could they do a hare !! And there was a lad up your way who had "Johns Rocket" and my old mate "Big Sixer" who had "Tiger Bay" ! Two tremendous Scratch Dogs ! Cheers. Now we are talking dogs...The assassin was a lurcher, half brother to my old bitch Bes owned by Ron Murray, he was half deerhound/greyhound out of Dukes big Blue dog in Bedlington, and Watsons (from the paper shop in Bedlington) lurcher, thought to be a collie cross..the assassin was the

I'm not a fan of them, in fact I think they are a bit pretentious, but I've seen a few lately that may deserve a mention. "DOG 1", yours for £100,000 !! "CUR 1", cheap at £20,000 ! "DEL7A" the name of one of my dogs, I can have for £4,000 ! What got me thinking about this, I was behind a car the other day and the reg was "V1XYN", it got me thinking who had "V1XEN", that must be woth a few bob ! Any one seen any others ? Cheers.

Joe, you'll see by my original post, that I wasn't advocating bringing in new blood....simply asking IF it would be worth it. My own opinion is NO, it isn't worth it, as we have, as you say, pleanty of good blood right here, but theres some on here who seem to think the dogs "over the pond" are some sort of mystical beast, that we can't equal ! I think that if people here put more thought into what they are breeding, and only used good stock, there wouldn't be so mich dross about. Cheers. C P, I'm not up with the game anymore, so you can correct me if I am wrong, but it's my understand

Well, having hunted and travelled a bit all say is based on what I reckon to be the case. Yes we were unfortunate in the UK in the past, when longdogs were banned and very heavy penalties were inplace for deer poachers. At the time we were, and had been for centuries using longdogs of various strains to catch our native quarry. They came in differing sizes and with rough and smooth coats. And more than likely with stamina to spare and all we could possibly want for our land, which back then included wolves as a common quarry. We then saw our longdogs slip into the hands of the aristocracy
