It was the greatest dog/hunting magazine in the world until Whin fell out with it....now it's shit..You never hear about Whins dogs or salmo's or rabbs or big stubbies, Bob, (who owned him, I forget!!), Tor of Whinsworth, D Slieghts show dogs, or those magic dogs that take all the game on the "Fens of the North", Berwick !! Wait 'till Whin writes his book !! Then you'll hear the great "Whin Story " !!

Whin, I can't say much has changed in my hunting in this country. In the 60's & 70's I loved daywalking for hares; then the lamping came in and I took to it with gusto !! These days I do a bit of both, I enjoy a walk with the lamp, but must admit, I still like the thrill of the chase during the day ! Hope you have a great New Year !! Cheers.

There are many to whom the "ban " means nothing ! How many on here worked their dogs legaly, before the ban ? Don't forget, it was ilegal before the "ban " to take rabbits and game, without permision. How many of us walked the walk and never had permision in their lifes ? A fine under the "Trespass In Pursuit" law, would be the same ,(adjusting for inflation ! LOl !), as a fine under the "Hunting Act 2004" Poaching has always been ilegal.... you takes your chance......you takes your punishment ! Cheers.

Great read Trinder ! I would also get bored with the "catch & release" !! Why do it ? Nothing better than fishing... salmon , trout, course or sea fishing... and eat the fresh catch !! Same with the dogs; it's great to eat what you and your dogs have caught ! Cheers.

Inteligence, stamina, nose, jaw power, at a guess ! Cheers. i guess your taking the piss ,surely a colliexbull could offer all that and are proven to have all them traits? No, not taking the piss, simply answering your question. Of course other breeds, including Bull, bring that and more to the mix. But putting Doberman to a Greyhound would, I GUESS, add those traits. Would I try it or want a pup ? No, just answering youre question Cheers. sorry pal i didn mean to come aross a a dick,i know whre your comin from but i just cant see what doberman could bring to the mix,hey y

Bull X Greyhound = 1st x, 1st generation. Bull/Greyhound X Bull/Greyhound = 1st x, 2nd generation. Etc, etc. Cheers.

There will be a few women on here reading that comment, and having a wry smile !! LOL !! Cheers.

Used to allways rub the Whippets down with a towel, before and after a race. Not so much with the Lurchers, as they usualy have a walk and a stretch before running. Running a dog "cold" is asking for muscle injuries, so a rub down or a stretch before running is reccomended. Cheers.

I sort of get the point of this thread, (I think) !! If you are in pursuit of the "ultimate" dog, or the "complete allrounder", you are goung to cull an awful lot of dogs, as these mythical beasts don't exist ! Of course, I agree with trying to better your stock, but when do you decide a dog isn't good enough ? I've a bitch in my kennel that was better at five year old, than she was at two; Also, how high do you set your benchmark ? Many people want a dog to mooch about with and take a few rabbit, a companion, while others want a match dog. I think the only answer is; if YOU ARE happy with wha

Not having a pop, mate, but if you're running a dog, keep the basic stuff handy; like wound powder, Dettol liquid, Dettol cream, super glue, bandage, etc. ! Do the basic first aid immediatley, not the next day. It'll save trouble in the long run. Hope the dogs OK ! Cheers.

When I first got into this game, many years go, my first love was daytime Coursing, and I thought back then that the pure Greyhound was the ultimate coursing dog. I came to realise, that for what I did, the Lurcher was a better bet, then along came the Saluki Hybrids, undoubtably the best hare dogs; but now, has the Greyhound fallen behind even the pure Saluki ? Are we needing less and less pure Greyhound in our running dogs, or do we still need to add the Greyhound blood every so often ? Cheers.
-
I was given the Doberman, in Saudi Arabia, to replace a Saluki, that had to be PTS at 17 year old, anyhow, I used a vet out there, an old Scots guy who knew his job; and he said there was some though amongst vets that the syndrome was caused by pressure on the dogs spine, although it hasn't been proven. My Doberman would seem to get the "head shakes" sometimes if she had been lying in the same posistion for a long time, then got up. She was never in pain with it, but it did look a bit disconcerting ! Cheers.

My old Doberman suffered from "Idiopathic Head Tremor" as she got older. It's a syndrome common to Dobermans, some Bull breeds, and can occur in other breeds. Some vets I spoke to had never heard of it, while other vets knew of it, but couldn't suggest a cure ! Apart from the head shaking, there was no other symptom with my dog;she was alert, and it would stop as suddenly as it started.Try a different vet and mention this syndrome. Good luck with the dog. Cheers.

Did the vet DEFINATELY say it was some kind of poisening ? I ask, because you say the dogs were f****d, and it's a pup, (how old ?), and it seems like it had a stroke or some sort of aneurism. I remember LDR's dog, Billy had the same symptoms after a hard night on the lamp; fitting, and went blind. Had to be put to sleep. Hope this isn't the case here, and the pup makes a full recovery ! Cheers.

This is getting tedious ! You made a statement and IT WAS WRONG !!! I know it, you know it and everyone reading this post knows it !! You won't admit you were wrong, and no matter how much you twist and turn, you KNOW YOU WERE WRONG !! Now, as I say, this is getting tedious, so I won't bother replying again. Whatever I've done, or wherever I've been has nothing to do with the fact you made a stupid, WRONG statement !! You can't deny it, as it's written in this post, twist and turn as much as you like ! Last word from me !! Cheers.
-
Mate, you can back peddle as much as you like, but YOU said no one can lift a wild boars leg and knife it !!! You were WRONG, and have been proved WRONG !! By the way, I've hunted pig in North Africa, Eastern Europe, Australia, as well as NZ ! You said killing a boar with a knife couldn't be done, so OBVIOUSLY you HAVEN'T seen It!! Instead of trying to justify your mistake, you should just admit you were WRONG, and let it go, with a bit of dignity !! Cheers.
-
Are you being serious? He probably is being serious, Stabs, as he has never seen it before ! Although I think I'd prefer the .308 myself !! LOL !! Cheers. What do you mean? I've never seen it before? A picture of you besides a truck holding a rifle doesn't prove anything. I've done a bit, closer to home than NZ, although one of my best pals lives in Nelson, overlooking the river. In France the dogs we used were fox terriers, the pigs weren't stuck though, they were shot whilst at bay. If you want to lick someone's jacksie, crack on, just don't try and mug me off

How old are you mate ? Cheers. Not meant for you, Rio !

Stop readihg books or listening to old men, mate ! The dogs of today are fitter, better fed, better trained and better bred than "the old days" !! Believe me !! Cheers. Whats that mate,, wasn`t listening Don't you agree ???
