  1. Tomo, was the "sleeping ferret" passed on to a "good pet home" ?? LOL !! I know what you mean mate... my post was just a bit "tongue in cheeck"; I've done a bit of ferreting , but like terrier work, I'd rather be walking than digging !! Cheers.
  2. Now, I've had running dogs for far more years than I care to remember, and I know there are great dogs, good dogs, average dogs and bad dogs, but I've never realy been in to ferrets, although I enjoy ferreting ! A few years ago I got my brother a ferret from a top class guy, "Silverhob", from this site. It was a "Black Eyed White" jill, and turned out to be, (in my brothers opinion), an excellent worker ! It recently had to be replaced, so I got him a well bred polecat hob, anyhow, we had it out today and it was worse than useless !! Now, this is where I show my ignorance of ferrets....... I
  3. Weimaraners are excellent dogs in their own right; but I can't honestly see what they would add to a Lurcher, that other, more recognised crosses can . Cheers.
  4. If a dog doesn't come straight back when the lamp goes off........it's NOT a lamping dog !! LOL !! Cheers.
  5. Haven't you got anything that can stud his bitch for him, Rio ? If you know him and he's genuine. Cheers.
  6. Somehow, I don't think you are going to be inundated with offers ! Cheers.
  7. If it's the 100w, 2mcp lamp, it's to open and close the cooling vents. Cheers.
  8. Grasses, walking the big land ???What the hell is this guy going on about ??? I don't know any grasses, and I haven't a clue about walking the big land !!! Cheers.
  9. The guy has a dog, a Boergreyhound, a breed most on here, including me, have never heard of. It would be interesting to see it and hear about it, instead of the usual "Lets see you bull X's", etc !! LOL !! I think you are wrong about the age of the kids that post nonsense on here; I've hunted with 17, 18, 19 year olds from here and they have been great ! I think the crabbers are around 14/15, have never had a dog, (or a life!!), and just spout shite on here to look "big" !! LOL !! Cheers.
  10. The guys "harping on" about jackals, as you put it, because he is from SOUTH AFRICA !!! This forum has members frm all over the world, not just the UK, and I for one, enjoy reading about dogs and quarry from different countries ! Cheers.
  11. OK, I've got a few spare minutes, so I'll try and give MY answers to your questions, which I STRESS, are only MY opinions. 1, Yes Whippet and Greyhound are the usual base breeds for Lurchers, for one reason only..SPEED. But I find that Saluki and Deerhound are also being used more and more as a base breed. 2, Certain crosses are used for various reasons, the most obvious is the quarry they work, the land they run, and of course, personal preference. 3, Airedales ARE used, but not as popular as Bedlingtons. Beddys are, I think, the only terrier with the shape and speed to go with th
  12. THAT WOULDNT BE KENDO NEGASAKI WOULD IT,,,,,HE WAS NOT MATCH FOR MR CRABTREE Shirley Not ! Cheers.
  13. If the lurchers you have seen "backed off a bit at hedges", then they were poor specimens ! I think you have allready made your mind up on a Whippet, as why would you want a lurcher if you don't think they have the drive ? Good luck with whatever you decide on Cheers.
  14. I think Tomo's big bags come from about 200 mile SOUTH of Berwick !! Cheers.
  15. A puppy running about with it's lead still on, after another dog and a rabbit, at night, is a recipe for disaster !! Let the pup BE a pup, and wait 'till next season to start it, mate. Cheers.
  16. How can you compare Greyhounds and rabbits ? Greyhounds have been domesticated and selectively bred by humans for hundreds, if not thousands, of years; they have been bred for coursing and racing, and in racing have been bred to excell over different distances, such as sprinters and stayers. Rabbits are wild and subject only to natural selection,(of course I'm not talking about pet rabbits, just the ones we hunt,LOL !), So you can't use one as an example for the other ! Are rabbits faster, fitter or fatter in different parts of the country ? Quite possibly, but not to an extent that it should
  17. If I can stop laughing at the stupidity of the question, I'll try and give a straight answer, just in case you are not taking the piss and realy need to know !! LOL !! How about...breeding...training...feeding...conditioning...kenneling, just to start with ??? Cheers.
  18. I can't believe there is ten pages of arguing who's got the fastest RABBITS ! LOL! Surely ANY decent dog will take ANY rabbits on ANY Land ???? Cheers.
  19. I doubt anyone seriously gets a 29" dog in just for rabbits, but you gotta admit, those ole' pencil neck Deer X's look good ! LOL ! Cheers.
  20. I have a 23" bitch and a 29" bitch. The little one is definately the better rabbit dog, but that doesn't mean the big 'un isn't a decent rabbiter aswell ! They are both "allrounders" and each doe's some things better than the other, so they make a decent team. I have no hesitation taking the big'un lamping, even though it's not the reason she was brought in for. Cheers.
  21. According to some on here; pure collies, beddies, staffies, etc., have no problem with rabbits, so I'm sure a 29" deer/grey could catch one or two !! LOL !! Cheers.
  22. Well, that just goes to show I'm never to old to learn !! LOL !! Reading that, it seems as if some black & tan breed pups keep their mothers immunity longer than other breeds, so should be vacinated later, if I'm reading the article correctly. Cheers.
  23. The prophet Mohamed said all black and tan Salukis "had the devil in them" !!! He was just as stupid as your mates vet !! Cheers.
  24. Depends what type of hernia and how severe it is. Most pups make a full recovery from a hernia, with the right vetinary treatment. Cheers.
  25. I think I'd be more worried about the traffic and the dog getting knocked down, than skinned pads ! Cheers.
