  1. Theres ALLWAYS more to it... but we NEVER get the full story ! Cheers.
  2. Where abouts in Northumberland, its a big place. Cheers.
  3. Why on earth would "free running" be lazy ??? You don't sit at home and let the dogs out the back door for a run about ! At least I dont. If you take your dogs for a walk off the leads for about 5 mile, the dogs will probably do about 10 ! Cheers.
  4. We shouldn't have booed Carrol; we should have given him a standing ovation !!!!....After all, we bought an entire forward line, (one of the best in the Premiership, at the moment), Cisse, Ba and Ben Arfur, for about A THIRD of the £35 millon that Liverpool gave us for Carrol !!!! LMFAO !!!! Cheers.
  5. Huskies who compete do more then 20 miles on a tread mil every day but for a Lurcher that seems excessive free running in my opinion is better then road work for fitness Perhaps I should have said "theres not a LURCHER in the world", but I agree, free running and working, with a bit of road work is all a dog should need. Cheers.
  6. There's not a dog in the world that needs 20 mile roadwork every day !! Give the dog a break and do a bit mooching around the fields and letting it run around. Sure, some road work may be good for a dog.... but 20 mile a day ??? !!! Cheers.
  7. Well, to the "bag chasers" and the "rosette hunters", having a "Lurcher " with 7/8 Greyhound and 1/8 something else, allows them to think they have a "Lurcher"" !! LOL !! Cheers.
  8. You're not confusing this with "yapping" are you ? I've never seen this behaviour, that the OP describes, in Whippet X's before. Cheers.
  9. Often fancied a Borzoi or Borzoi cross, if I could get an imported one from working lines; but the Borzoi lines in this country would be worse than useless to try and get a worker from. Cheers.
  10. Just seems strange that someone would bring a pup up to almost adulthood...... then sell it and bring in two more pups ? Anyhow; it's your dog,and I hope all works out well for you and the bitch ! Cheers.
  11. Why not just have one "Buddy" pup off your uncle and keep the bitch ? She's only 10 month old, so couldn't even have been tested yet. Cheers.
  12. You can bet your life he's a member on here !!! LOL !!! Cheers.
  13. As you say, Tomo, depends how you look at it. As I said, in todays climate it's damn near impossible to test your dog on long runs on a hare in the UK. So,if you are so inclined, you have to have a fast dog that will get it's hare in double quick time !! I'd love to run my Deer/Grey bitch on hares on the land I was hunting last year in Australia; no worry about time or fences, but that aint gonna happen !! So, if I was to run hares here, theoreticaly, as it's against the law ! I would want the dog to be the "up and at 'em" type, rather than the "wear them down" type. Cheers.
  14. I've judged "WORKING" Whippets at a few shows, including Birr; and a working dog doesn't need two balls to catch rabbits ! These AREN'T KC shows, and KC rules don't, and shouldn't, apply. Cheers.
  15. If you guy's take this racing so seriously; why don't you get into the Greyhound or Non-Ped Racing, out of traps, with real Judges and Handicappers, instead of ruining the "LURCHER" racing; which used to be a bit of fun for the "WORKING" dogs during the off season?? Cheers.
  16. In todays hunting climate, I'd say you need to be "in & out" as quck as possible ! Dogs that take 3,4, 5 + minutes on a hare have never been my type of dog !! Cheers.
  17. What's ther difference between a "couple" and "several" ??? Cheers.
  18. you know people from before the saluki came along eh ? they must be gettting on a bit All depends on your comprehension of "getting on a bit" !! LOL !!.......... Theres still quite a few of us in the game that owned and ran "Lurchers", before the Saluki became popular. Cheers.
  19. He's a waste of time !! Can't keep out of trouble, thinks he's a "gangsta", allways late for training, won't listen to advice. He's been to court twice this week and is back there again in the summer. Hughton gave him a 5 1/2 year extension to his contrct just before he was sacked. Probably the stupidest thing Hughton did at The Toon; so now we cant get rid of him as it would cast a fortune to pay up his contract. I feel sorry for you, as he will CERTAINLY get into trouble in Sheffield !!....OH !! and he's not that good a player !! Cheers.
  20. Trinder, no offence meant; but are you and your mate teenagers; and are the dogs in question Bull X's ? Cheers.
  21. I'd be far more careful about what I bought, and who I bought it off !! Cheers.
  22. Albert, I have nothing but admiration for the way you organise and run shows in Ireland ! The Master MgRath, the Five Nations, ( both the Terrier & Lurcher Shows), were inovations ! I had the pleasure to judge the Whippet Show for you at Birr, two years ago. I feel I have to comment on this thread, as you keep equating Lurcher Shows with K.C. shows ! It couldn't be more different ! K.C. judges have a STANDARD to work to...... Lurcher judges can only pick what is best IN THEIR MIND only ! I feel that the more you defend your position, the more the working Lucher men feel alienated ! As I sa
  23. Give me the link; wouldn't mind a look on ! Cheers.
  24. Just about ANY cross from true working breeding will do what you want.... but you seem to have your mind allready made up ! Good luck with whatever you decide on. Cheers.
  25. The odd one, or maybe two , not threes and fours, given fair law. Must be a slack night , not many rising to this fly. Kitty's got me and you answering !! LOL !! Cheers.
