  1. Just seems strange that someone would bring a pup up to almost adulthood...... then sell it and bring in two more pups ? Anyhow; it's your dog,and I hope all works out well for you and the bitch ! Cheers.
  2. Why not just have one "Buddy" pup off your uncle and keep the bitch ? She's only 10 month old, so couldn't even have been tested yet. Cheers.
  3. You can bet your life he's a member on here !!! LOL !!! Cheers.
  4. As you say, Tomo, depends how you look at it. As I said, in todays climate it's damn near impossible to test your dog on long runs on a hare in the UK. So,if you are so inclined, you have to have a fast dog that will get it's hare in double quick time !! I'd love to run my Deer/Grey bitch on hares on the land I was hunting last year in Australia; no worry about time or fences, but that aint gonna happen !! So, if I was to run hares here, theoreticaly, as it's against the law ! I would want the dog to be the "up and at 'em" type, rather than the "wear them down" type. Cheers.
  5. I've judged "WORKING" Whippets at a few shows, including Birr; and a working dog doesn't need two balls to catch rabbits ! These AREN'T KC shows, and KC rules don't, and shouldn't, apply. Cheers.
  6. If you guy's take this racing so seriously; why don't you get into the Greyhound or Non-Ped Racing, out of traps, with real Judges and Handicappers, instead of ruining the "LURCHER" racing; which used to be a bit of fun for the "WORKING" dogs during the off season?? Cheers.
  7. In todays hunting climate, I'd say you need to be "in & out" as quck as possible ! Dogs that take 3,4, 5 + minutes on a hare have never been my type of dog !! Cheers.
  8. What's ther difference between a "couple" and "several" ??? Cheers.
  9. you know people from before the saluki came along eh ? they must be gettting on a bit All depends on your comprehension of "getting on a bit" !! LOL !!.......... Theres still quite a few of us in the game that owned and ran "Lurchers", before the Saluki became popular. Cheers.
  10. He's a waste of time !! Can't keep out of trouble, thinks he's a "gangsta", allways late for training, won't listen to advice. He's been to court twice this week and is back there again in the summer. Hughton gave him a 5 1/2 year extension to his contrct just before he was sacked. Probably the stupidest thing Hughton did at The Toon; so now we cant get rid of him as it would cast a fortune to pay up his contract. I feel sorry for you, as he will CERTAINLY get into trouble in Sheffield !!....OH !! and he's not that good a player !! Cheers.
  11. Trinder, no offence meant; but are you and your mate teenagers; and are the dogs in question Bull X's ? Cheers.
  12. I'd be far more careful about what I bought, and who I bought it off !! Cheers.
  13. Albert, I have nothing but admiration for the way you organise and run shows in Ireland ! The Master MgRath, the Five Nations, ( both the Terrier & Lurcher Shows), were inovations ! I had the pleasure to judge the Whippet Show for you at Birr, two years ago. I feel I have to comment on this thread, as you keep equating Lurcher Shows with K.C. shows ! It couldn't be more different ! K.C. judges have a STANDARD to work to...... Lurcher judges can only pick what is best IN THEIR MIND only ! I feel that the more you defend your position, the more the working Lucher men feel alienated ! As I sa
  14. Give me the link; wouldn't mind a look on ! Cheers.
  15. Just about ANY cross from true working breeding will do what you want.... but you seem to have your mind allready made up ! Good luck with whatever you decide on. Cheers.
  16. The odd one, or maybe two , not threes and fours, given fair law. Must be a slack night , not many rising to this fly. Kitty's got me and you answering !! LOL !! Cheers.
  17. not often I get a bite from you chart ffs, Not a "bite" mate ! I thought that's what you were after though ! LOL ! Some interesting observations. I'm old enough to remember when Collie X's, (and Deer X's), were the norm; before the Salukis hit these shores ! But one thing is certain now.... if you want to compete on hares; you better have Saluki blooded dogs ! Cheers. hence I,m thinking deerhound in the mix Behave your self !! LOL !! You've had enough "bites" from me for one day !! LOL !! Cheers.

  19. KR, I get the impression you being the "Devils Advocate" with this thread !! LOL !! There's a place for both types; the Saluki X for the out and out hare dogs, and the Collie X as more of an allrounder, but thats not to say either couldn't do the others job in some circumstances ! So; I suppose it comes down to quarry, land, and, probably, most importantly, personal choice ! I've owned both types..... but now I run Deer X and Beddy X, and there is DEFINATELY good and bad in ALL crosses !! Cheers.
  20. chuck her in a cage full of rats , that will bring her on abit more. i hate lap dogs , most lap dogs havent had the stuff put in front of them WOW !! You should write a book on how to get the best out of a Lurcher !!!...............or then again; maybe not ! Cheers.
  21. You keep telling your mate to sell a dog that you know is useless ??? No wonder the game is f****d up when people keep selling or passing on shit dogs !!
  22. Andy, I like to analize and think things thru', (maybe to much ! LOL !), and what attracts me to Don as a stud, is the fact that the Collie/Greyhound cross is the archytypal "Lurcher" cross... Don is heavily Collie influenced, but also has great Lurcher breeding. He is doing the business, so, in my mind, would be a far better sire than a pure Collie, especialy if put to a good class of Greyhound. I agree that putting him over a Grew, or Non-Ped Whippet would be a good idea, presumably to get a bit extra pace ? Anyway, good luck with him, I think it was an adventerous cross, and it seems to have
  23. Because someones dogs win races doesn't mean they will be a good Lurcher Judge!! BUT, Judges have got to start somewhere, and there are to many people who will slate a Judge, but are unwilling to do it themselves ! I have respect for anyone who is willing to go into the ring and judge, and put up with the moaners and whingers ! So, good luck to the lady in question !! Cheers.
  24. Doubt it mate, the owner will probably keep the lines tight and only breed as and when neccessary for close friends and family. I reckon. Cheers, D. I don't know why you doubt it. Even if the line is kept tight and close, the progeny should, if bred right, have a benificial effect on Lurcher breeding. Dons sire, Jack, has already made his mark, so no reason why Don shouldn't ! Cheers.
  25. There's been a lot of talk lately about how Greyhounds are no longer needed in Lurcher breeding........ But put Don over a good Greyhound, and I'll bet you'd get some crackers !! Cheers.
