  1. thanks for helping me get my message across mate. I think you've hunted with the bitch I'm talking about. Gerard had her, he got her off "dooley", the bitch goes by the name of Ripple. I've hunted with both Gerrard and Dooley, but the only Whippets I've hunted with down there belonged to Dromana, so I don't think I've seen your bitch. Cheers. It was the full sister to Milo. get less than half whippet in it but it's got the most whippet out of any of the other dogs I've had lol Milo is some dog !! If your bitch is anywhere near as good as him, she'll be a good'un !!

  3. Feral cats are one of the biggest pests in Australia, and are considered fair game, give the lad a break ! But the answer to your question has already been given.......Slip the dog on another one and see what happens ! Cheers.
  4. Aye, that Vixen is a fine worker... Seen her doing it day and night...... but it needed a real dog handler to show her properly !! Just joking, mate ! Cheers.
  5. They specify "pet homes" because, usualy, most rescues are sponsored by or have some affilliation with the likes of the RSPCA or PETA ! There are, of course, some rescues who specialise in Lurchers and Greyhounds, and have no qualms about dogs going to "working homes", but these are in the minority, and are the ones we should be supporting ! BUT;any rescue that looks after dogs has got to be admired !! Cheers.
  6. Books are fine mate, we've all read them, but you cant beat learning on the run, as it were ! Get the dog, feed it, train it, excersize it, correctly, get it out in the fields when it's ready, and next year you'll be on here talking like an expert ! LOL ! As for cost..Who knows ? KC Whippets cost quite a bit, £300-£400, but unregistered and Non-Peds should be a lot cheaper. Get you dog and have fun ! Cheers.
  7. I'm with paulus on this; it's just personal preference for dog or bitch. I've had both, and they all do the job if looked after and entered correctly. Also agree with trying to get a working bred type, usualy better in the long run. Do your homework, and don't just take the first one that comes along Cheers.
  8. Is it a ped or non-ped ? Shouldn't make a difference as far as working is concerned, I'm just interested . Cheers.
  9. So basicaly; you got a pull because the driver had no insurance, nothing to do with lamping, poaching, hunting, etc !! What did you expect ? It's suicide going out anytime with a motor that hasn't got all the correct documents, these days, let alone a motor full of lads, dogs and lamps ! All the cop has to do is take a pic of your number plate, and BINGO, in seconds he knows everything about the car and the driver ! Cheers.
  10. I live near Corbridge and I drive and walk around the area every day and most nights. I have an allotment in the area, and allways have the dogs in the car, and usualy my lamping gear. I've never had a pull yet, but if they were to stop me and try to take my motor for no reason, I'd be straight onto a brief and the Police Complaints Commission ! Surely they can't have a leg to stand on if all your documents were in order and you wern't actualy lamping, or had any ilegal game in the car ???? Cheers.
  11. Theres ALLWAYS more to it... but we NEVER get the full story ! Cheers.
  12. Where abouts in Northumberland, its a big place. Cheers.
  13. Why on earth would "free running" be lazy ??? You don't sit at home and let the dogs out the back door for a run about ! At least I dont. If you take your dogs for a walk off the leads for about 5 mile, the dogs will probably do about 10 ! Cheers.
  14. We shouldn't have booed Carrol; we should have given him a standing ovation !!!!....After all, we bought an entire forward line, (one of the best in the Premiership, at the moment), Cisse, Ba and Ben Arfur, for about A THIRD of the £35 millon that Liverpool gave us for Carrol !!!! LMFAO !!!! Cheers.
  15. Huskies who compete do more then 20 miles on a tread mil every day but for a Lurcher that seems excessive free running in my opinion is better then road work for fitness Perhaps I should have said "theres not a LURCHER in the world", but I agree, free running and working, with a bit of road work is all a dog should need. Cheers.
  16. There's not a dog in the world that needs 20 mile roadwork every day !! Give the dog a break and do a bit mooching around the fields and letting it run around. Sure, some road work may be good for a dog.... but 20 mile a day ??? !!! Cheers.
  17. Well, to the "bag chasers" and the "rosette hunters", having a "Lurcher " with 7/8 Greyhound and 1/8 something else, allows them to think they have a "Lurcher"" !! LOL !! Cheers.
  18. You're not confusing this with "yapping" are you ? I've never seen this behaviour, that the OP describes, in Whippet X's before. Cheers.
  19. Often fancied a Borzoi or Borzoi cross, if I could get an imported one from working lines; but the Borzoi lines in this country would be worse than useless to try and get a worker from. Cheers.
  20. Just seems strange that someone would bring a pup up to almost adulthood...... then sell it and bring in two more pups ? Anyhow; it's your dog,and I hope all works out well for you and the bitch ! Cheers.
  21. Why not just have one "Buddy" pup off your uncle and keep the bitch ? She's only 10 month old, so couldn't even have been tested yet. Cheers.
  22. You can bet your life he's a member on here !!! LOL !!! Cheers.
  23. As you say, Tomo, depends how you look at it. As I said, in todays climate it's damn near impossible to test your dog on long runs on a hare in the UK. So,if you are so inclined, you have to have a fast dog that will get it's hare in double quick time !! I'd love to run my Deer/Grey bitch on hares on the land I was hunting last year in Australia; no worry about time or fences, but that aint gonna happen !! So, if I was to run hares here, theoreticaly, as it's against the law ! I would want the dog to be the "up and at 'em" type, rather than the "wear them down" type. Cheers.
  24. I've judged "WORKING" Whippets at a few shows, including Birr; and a working dog doesn't need two balls to catch rabbits ! These AREN'T KC shows, and KC rules don't, and shouldn't, apply. Cheers.
  25. If you guy's take this racing so seriously; why don't you get into the Greyhound or Non-Ped Racing, out of traps, with real Judges and Handicappers, instead of ruining the "LURCHER" racing; which used to be a bit of fun for the "WORKING" dogs during the off season?? Cheers.
