  1. the jury is out on that Based on outward appearances you might think that rodents and lagomorphs are closely related. They do have a similar appearance, they exist in similar ecological niches, they are vegetarian, and they have continuously growing incisors, but they are fundamentally different. Mammalogists now think that lagomorphs are more closely related to ungulates (the hoofed mammals) than to rodents. Rabbit young are born naked and rather helpless (altricial). Hares bear young that are furred and able to move about shortly after birth Yes but why should they get any special
  2. Yeah mate, swap the dogs; then next week swap it for some thing else ! Hopefully in a few weeks you can swap whatever dog you have for an "X Box" or an "I 'Phone " !! Cheers.
  3. your correct there about daytime hares being the best test of a dog but what about us lot who do not keep saluki crosses and walk feilds for them during the daytime what about lamping dogs should you not slip your dog on a hare on the lamp because its not a true test for your dog. i bet you have slipped your dog on a hare on a plough feild were the hare cannot run its best but somehow it is ok because its "daytime" it all depends on the dogs you run if you had a pure whippet or a half cross collie are they going to catch a daytime hare with any consistance? i think lamping hares would be

  8. "Line Breeding" is when it goes right....... "In Breeding" is when it goes wrong !! But they are both the same thing !! LOL !! Cheers.
  9. No bother mate ! I'll talk about dogs and hunting all day !! If people believe me; great; if they don't... wel that's up to them !! Cheers By the way; which show was that; as I only go to the EDRD and The Yorkshire Game Fair these days. Cheers.
  10. I met a lad from East Herrington back in some hard times in the Middle East in the 70's..... He is still my best mate now, when we are both retired......even though he is a Mackem !!! LOL !!! Cheers.
  11. I'm not an expert, (at dogs), and haven't seen my "photograph" mate for a few months; but "don't let the truth get in the way of a good dit", as some would say !! LOL !! If you know me, then please have the decency to tell me who you are, by PM, if neccassary, or in person, preferably. We could probably have a good craic about dogs and life in general !! Cheers.
  12. Why are you talkin bout whippets unless you mean them real racing whippets which if thats what you mean why in the f**k would you think that would make them less accident prone. Them little sumbitches can burn up the ground right now. If you mean them little roach backed blue bug eyed fuckers then you are a fool. f**k me !! I heard you were thinking of putting a Whippet into your lines to give a bit speed and agression !! Have you never heard of the Whippets over here that take Fallow, Fox, Hare, etc ?? Get with the programme, Dan'll !! Cheers. Here we go......... come on l
  13. Mackem Twat !! LOL !! Cheers. I had a house in Washington for a few years, not quite Sunderland; a strange place, where 50% support the Toon and 50% support the Mackems !! Ran a lot of hares on Sunderland Airport and Nissan Sports Ground, and down around Penshaw. Cheers.

  16. I think it was Whin; or Minshaw Man, or perhaps their love child !! LOL !! Cheers.
  17. Here's his Pedigree; http://thewhippetarchives.net/details.php?id=84231 Cheers.
  18. Mate, are you putting that pic in the middle of those "breed standard" pics and diagrams to show us how nice your pup is ? By the way, there is NO breed standard for Lurchers.... and anyone "stacking" a pup like that would indicate, to me, that they are "rosette hunters", rather than "rabbit hunters" ! Cheers.
  19. Hi, mate. If that is a Pedigree Whippet, then the U.S. Whippet seems to have deviated a long way from the Breed Standard; that dog looks very much like the Non-Ped Whippets that are popular here in the U.K. There seems to be Greyhound blood in there, just going by the photo. A fine looking dog, nontheless ! Here's a link to both Ped and Non-Ped Whippets, you may find useful . http://www.dogforum.co.uk/ Cheers.
  20. Where do they get the other 10% ??? Cheers.
  21. Damn !!! Them ole' pencil neck, snakeheads are good !! LOL !! Cheers.
  22. I don't get your staement "not long since...........undefended". Before the war, the only ship stationed down there was HMS Endurance, an ice breaker. Since the war there has been a warship and submarine presence, most lately one of the most advanced warships in the world. There has also been a very large army/marine contingent and an RAF squadron permanently based in the Falklands since the end of the war, along with many anti aircraft missile batteries. The advance in ship and submarine launched munitions mean that an aircraft carrier would not be as important as it was 30 years ago. Althoug
  23. Just been reading Benitez's excuse for getting beat; his players were "exhausted" after playing so many matches over Xmas, (though I'm sure QPR have played the same amount) !! Pardew also claims Newcastles disasterous form is due to playing a few extra games in the Europa League !! These "professional athletes" can't play two, 90 minute games of football a week !!!! Pro tennis players some times play 3, 4, 5 matches in a tournament, some matches lasting over 4 hours , and they are running almost all the time, whereas football players stand around a fair bit when off the ball, in their 90
  24. Not a very good analogy. An Irish Wolfhound or Deerhound has a much bigger stride and is taller, but I'd bet a Whippet is faster ! Cheers.
