I saw official photos of the destruction that the American A10 Warthogs wrought on the retreating Iraqi armoured columns and spoke to some of the pilots. Like shooting fish in a barrel was how they described it. Cheers.
-
Of course they won the war in a Iraq !!! The Iraqi military was comprehensively beaten, it was totally one sided. What happened afterwards has absolutely no bearing on the outcome of the war. I think what you may mean is “We won the war…..but lost the peace”, but it’s pointless discussing it with you if you keep moving the goalposts ! I was there, and I can categorically say we won the war. I never mentioned Afghanistan. Cheers.
-
You said they couldn’t defeat Iraq. The Coalition , led by the US, slaughtered them. I could see the effects of “shock and awe” from 100 miles away. Their armoured columns were completely destroyed as they turned tail and ran for home, their air defences were useless and their airforces destroyed on the ground. Their Scud missiles were ineffective. I think it’s fair to say they were defeated ! Cheers.

Yeah but Stallone and Crenna made the big difference ! LOL ! Cheers.

What country couldn’t defeat Iraq ? Cheers.

I was judging at the Yorkshire Game Fair and a woman had a small, well, small for a borzoi bitch, about 26”. It certainly looked like it could do a job, but who knows I remember a pair of Ibizan hounds having a run at my local whippet track, the most ungainly, slowest running type I’ve ever seen One of the nicest looking lurchers I’ve ever seen was at Appleby Fair, a first cross Afghan hound/greyhound, but the owner said it had never ran anything, it was a pet. It would have to be an import from working lines for me, the KC running types in the UK are too far removed fr

Has anyone ever thought of trying one of the exotic running dog breeds ? You know; getting a pup from working lines and raising it as a lurcher ? Something like a borzoi, azawhak, tazi, or even a chartpolski. I often toyed with the idea but never got round to it. I know the cost of importing would be prohibitive, and finding a real working line would be difficult, but I think it would have been fun trying it. To late in life for me now, just wondering if anyone else had thought of it in their more contemplative moments. Yes,I know purpose bred lurchers are better, so, mC,

Humzah has decided to take the UK government to court over their decision to use article 35 of the devolution act to block the Scottish gender recognition law. This is the law that seems to have been mainly responsible for Sturgeons demise, along with the corruption. Is he completely stupid ? Does he not remember Einstein saying the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result . Something like 83% of the Scottish people were against the law, is he expecting them to change their minds ? Cheers.

No problem with that, mate. The Picketty Witch I know had Bilko and Scarface in its line, Scarface was out of a greyhound. It was over 50 years ago, but the BWRA database is very accurate, I know as I had input into it ! LOL ! Its possible there was another dog with the same name, Picketty Witch was a quite popular pop group early 70’s. I just enjoy reminiscing about whippets. Cheers.

A pair of Aussie whippets I was out with some years ago; Mally's Vixen, the best working pedigree whippet I've seen in the UK; Cheers.

Can’t equate racing dogs with coursing mate, but I’ve caught hares with whippets and greyhounds, some were good, some weren’t ! Most racing dogs are bred for out and out speed over relatively short distances, but a good “whizz banger” is great to see on a hare. All depends on what you enjoy ! Cheers.
-
I’d rather talk all day about whippets than Brexit, big cats, Ukraine ! LOL ! Cheers.
-
I think you may be as I’ve just checked all the BWRA Champions fro 68 to 78 and Picketty Witch didn’t win a BWRA Championship, but I do remember it running back then. Cheers.
-
No, just checked my records and the grand sire to Picketty Witch was Bilko, a non- ped PedigreePoint Online Database WHIPPET-DATA.CO.UK Cheers.
-
Not the one I’m thinking of mate. This was a 28lb dog that won the BWRA Championship as Our Pepe, and the WRCA Championship as Mystic Pepe, late 60’s early 70’s I remember Picketty Witch running, but assumed it was a non -ped. Cheers.
-
Of course. The idea is to breed a dog of whippet appearance and size and weight with the speed of the greyhound, and it’s just about been achieved, by breeding the fastest to the fastest. I’ve told the tale before of a non-ped whippet I had that I matched with a greyhound; on a whippet track, over 150 yards the whippet won by a couple of yards, on the greyhound track over 270 yards, the greyhound won by a couple of yards. So, I’d say, by and large, the non-ped whippet is faster over the shorter distance, the greyhound faster over the longer distance. Just my opinion, of cou

The non-peds are far and away faster, even at the same weight and size. There has only been one instance of a pedigree whippet achieving its Racing Champion status in both the BWRA, (non-ped) and the WRCA, ( pedigree), as far as I’m aware. Cheers.
-
Not always, Fed. My local club has separate handicaps for Pedigree and non-ped whippets, and the WRCA only allows pedigree whippets to run. But yeah; most non-ped “whippets” have some greyhound in their lines . Cheers.

Brexit. Success? Too early to judge? Disaster?
chartpolski replied to jukel123's topic in General Talk
I agree, as long as there are fifth columnists, corrupt politicians, and people who will do anything to reverse a democratic vote and hand over our country to unelected, unaccountable foreigners, we will never achieve the Brexit we were offered, remember David Cameron saying “ a yes vote will mean leaving the E U AND ALL ITS INSTITUTIONS “ ? Whatever happened to that promise ? Cheers. -

It’s like Orwell’s “1984”. ”Lies are truth, truth is lies”. Its the remainers that want the UK to do badly, just so they can say “we told you so “. They search the web to find any article that supports them, usually from the Guardian or other left wing press. Brexiteers want to see a successful, independent, sovereign UK. Cheers. -
Or “Triggers Brush” ! Cheers.

“Jeez, you’ve got a big pussy……jeez you’ve got a big pussy ! “ ”Why did you say it twice ?” ”I didn’t….it was an echo !” Rather apt for this thread, I thought ! Cheers.

That would be great, but human nature being what it is, it won’t happen. The “tribal” voting, the “me da and me granda voted Labour so I will” is still rife, especially in places like Newcastle. I’m old enough to remember when Labour represented the working man, and I voted for them for many years, but Labour has taken the working class voter for granted for some time now, and is more interested in niche areas now; gay and trans rights, immigrants rights, ethnic rights, than the blue collar working class. Labour is led by champagne socialists, oxbridge millionaires, living in Isli

Haven’t the Welsh Labour Government banned Greyhound racing in Wales ? Just checked. Not banned yet. It’s at the proposal stage . Cheers.

I don't know, these are my first quail and not the Japanese. I have then in a hutch inside a shed, so pretty well insulated from the cold. Cheers.
