I honestly don’t know. I’ve seen 32lb dogs trap faster than smaller dogs and vice versa. I don’t think, in general , that smaller dogs have better early pace, some have, some haven’t, let’s not forget theses dogs are bred to do one thing, and one thing only; run 150 yards in the quickest possible time. Some are good trappers, some have early pace, some are good finishers ! Only the very best have it all, whatever weight class they are in . Cheers.

No disagreement with me, I'm a fan of both the ped and the non-ped, and I'd have another of either in a heartbeat. If it were for racing and working, I'd go for a non-ped. If it were for working only, I'd maybe go for a ped. Just my opinion and personal preferences. Cheers.

I’ve always thought they should just be called “race dogs”, but they were around before the whippet got pedigree status and were always known as whippets, wether they had terrier, collie, whatever, in them. The pedigrees are descendants of the same dogs but went down the KC route. As my old handicapping mentor told me “if they measure in, if they weigh in, they’re whippets “ ! Cheers.

He's around 1/8th Greyhound ; Hes retired now, but I've seen him destroy pedigree whippets over any distance, trapping faster, early pace, finishing, the ped simply can't live in a race with a decent non-ped, of course they shouldn't when non-peds are dogs that are essentially bred down whippet/greys. Cheers.

Is that a non-ped though ? The pedigree whippet came in three versions , show, race and coursing. The lines are somewhat blurred now, but the coursing lines where, usually, heavier boned than the show and racing types. I judged a big pedigree whippet show in Ireland some years ago and the Supreme champion, the best "working" whippet, and the "whippet the judge would most like to take home" were three completely different built dogs ! Heres a photo of a top class non-ped my pal owns, it would be laughed out of the ring at a pedigree show, but would give any pedigree at least

The Robin Hood pub is just along the road. I wondered how the pub got its name, until I made the link with the Costner movie. Cheers.

It's a great area, you've got the Once Brewed pub and opposite is Steel Rigg, a sheer cliff face with Hadrians wall running along the top and a small lough at the bottom. I was there a few months ago for my local hunt, The Hayden, Hound, lurcher and Terrier show. A lot of people were absailing down the cliff. Its a popular walk for people, start at the pub, walk up to SteelRigg then along the wall to Sycamore Gap and back. I used to point out the tree as we passed ,to visitors, be a bit strange not seeing it now. Cheers.

We had it on its own, there’s plenty left for tomorrow so will have some with rice or even chips ! Told the wife it needed a cold Singha to go with it . Cheers.

The pampas fox isn’t a true fox, it’s related to the wolf and coyote, both of which can and do mate with dogs. A fox can’t mate with a dog. Seems just like more media nonsense. Cheers.

Multiculturalism,a failure,finally there’s realisation.

It doesn’t matter if it’s only one plane load; would you hand over your life savings to a people smuggler if you though you might end up in an African shithole ? Cheers. -

Then why didnt she do it ? Theres was nothing to stop her, even when the ECHR said we couldn’t, there was precedent with the prisoners vote decision where we ignored the ECHR. It was only when the lefty lawyers started the court cases that it’s been put on hold. If that first plane had taken off it would have proven a massive deterrent. Believe me, even if the Supreme Court finds in favour of the government, it will be passed back to the ECHR who will veto it. Going round in circles until Labour get in and repeal the Rwanda law meaning it will never happen. Cheers. -

She won’t be getting my vote ! Shes in a position to do something about it, instead of just talking about it, but doesn’t ! The Rwanda policy was passed by the Houses of Parliament, but overturned by an anonymous European judge. She could have just said “ we note your concerns but Parliament is sovereign “ Just like we did with the vote for prisoners ! I keep saying it ; all empty rhetoric and no action ! Cheers. -

Perhaps if Labours Blair and Mandelson hadn’t thrown the borders open to “rub the rights noses in diversity “; or maybe if Labours Starmer didn’t oppose things like the Rwanda policy and everything else proposed to tackle illegal immigration we wouldn’t be in this position ? Of course, NONE of the major parties , Tory, Labour, LibDems, SNP, want to do anything about immigration, legal and illegal. Its only empty rhetoric, designed to fool the voters. As I said previously; a pox on ALL There houses ! Cheers. -

It used to be you could apply for asylum if you "feared persecution ". Now you can apply for asylum if you "fear discrimination". A subtle, but huge difference. Cheers. -
It was a dog, mate, not a bitch. Just my brother and I and the keeper. Cheers.

Rolling back net zero, scrapping, at least some of, HS2, decrying multiculturalism and illegal immigration........all very laudable, but they've had 13 years to do something, so why now ? Could it be that they are 20 points behind Labour and a General Election is rapidly coming up ? All rhetoric, they'll do nothing about any of it and we will end up with aLabour government they will throw the borders open and take us back into the EU and freedom of movement ! A pox on both their houses......... Cheers.- 50 replies

The keeper got a good hiding. My brother and I were charged with GBH and " Tresspass in pursuit of game or coney". A friend of my dads was a director of Newcastle United who also happened to be the RSPCA's lawyer and he defended us in court,( how ironic is that ?), he destroyed the keepers credibility and we were found not guilty of all charges. The keeper was charged with unlawfully killing a dog. He was found guilty and lost his guns, SGC, fined and banned from keeping dogs. So, yeah, a bit of Devine retribution, but I lost a very good dog. A chance you take every ti

Bilko was a stud dog. I only had one that was double Bilko bred, A decent dual purpose dog, with a good temperament, could win a scratch race and catch a hare. Sadly shot dead whilst coursing. Cheers. Cheers.

The breed as a whole ? Probably, but you get good and bad in all breeds. Cheers.

Marretta, a Bilko bred, non-ped racing whippet from the mid 60's; This was back when they would strip every ounce of fat from a dog then build it back up with muscle. A top class bitch, who threw numerous Racing Champions. Cheers.
