I always thought the “deep state” , in the UK at least, were the Permanent Secretaries, who stay in place whilst their erstwhile bosses , the governments Ministers of State and Secretaries of State are transient. Also, possible members of the “deep state are the Heads of Departments in the Civil Service, and the Heads of the various Security Services; MI5, MI6, GCHQ, MI, etc. I think these are the real decision makers, governments and MP’s are, as I said , transient. Im not so sure the militaries Chiefs of Staff and the Heads of the various Police Forces and the judiciary are consid

I heard they were Newcastle supporters who still hadn’t made it home since Newcastle beat Sunderland in the Cup ??? Cheers.

Farmers in Holland are also protesting. The government has told them to get rid of something like 50% of their cattle and to give up so much growing and re wild the fields in the drive to net zero. Cheers.

“Diatribe” is a great word , isn’t it ? Please feel free to plagiarise my posts, I consider it an honour ! If I go to my grave knowing I have, in some small way, improved the vocabulary of my peers on here, I’ll die a happy man ! Just joking mate Cheers.

Let’s clear up this “diesel mechanic “ thing. In a post on another thread I said how I left school and was given an apprenticeship with an engineering firm as a diesel mechanic but was was lucky enough to have a boss who saw something in me and pushed my career in a different direction with me ending up with qualifications in engineering and all three jobs I’ve had before retiring were in engineers positions, including my final job as an engineering supervisor for one of the worlds largest airlines were I worked for over twenty years. I also was employed by Lockheed Aircraft and seco

Yeah, Snap On were popular but I also liked Sthalwhille. Cheers.
-
No, I spent most of my working life in the aircraft/airline industry. Cheers.

Let me refute some of that . I most certainly do not think myself above anyone, you on the other hand, appear to have a chip on your shoulder evidenced by your bitterness towards others you think of as being in a different class. I don’t think I’ve ever described myself as a mechanic, I may have, but I’m a qualified engineer with qualifications in mechanical, electrical, electronic and hydraulic disciplines. But what does my profession have to do with who I meet and converse with ? As for the rest of your diatribe, where did I accuse you of anything ? I said PEOPLE I HAVE MET WH

Are they your sons, Dai ? If so, my greatest respect to you and them. Cheers.

Cruel, very cruel ….. LOL Cheers.

Not at all mate ! I know plenty of over 70’s who have just about given up when there’s no need for it. I’ve got the dogs and two big allotments with loads of poultry, I walk half a mile there and half a mile back twice a day and still get in a couple of nights lamping and a couple of days daywalking . A walk across the field, just stop and breathe in some fresh air and take in the scenery is far better than watching daytime tv ! Cheers.
-
Nowt wrong with being in your 70’s !!!! Your mums doing the right thing; getting out and keeping busy…….works for me ! Cheers.

He “face times “ and asks if I can get him Neymar Puma football boots as he can’t get them in Saudi. I found them on sale at JD Sports in the Metro , £45, but it cost £58 to DHL them to him ! Next he wanted some football cards and a binder, I got the ones he wanted on Amazon, about £25, but £37 to DHL them ! Ah well, it’s only money and well worth it when I see the look on his face when I see him opening them ! Cheers.
-
Have you opened the “Bank of Grandad “ yet, Mac ? I have , but I’ve got the attitude that he’s only spending money he’d get anyway ! But I have got a little trust fund for him that he can’t access ‘till he’s 18. Cheers.

News is breaking that a U.N. Gaza aid agency was directly involved in the massacre of Israeli’s. The Uk, USA, Sweden and other countries have suspended aid to The U.N. Agency. Cheers.

“Laughing stock of the world” ? Not in my experience. I’ve travelled a fair bit; lived with , worked with and spent considerable time with many diverse nationalities, and their view of the British ranged from open admiration to grudging respect. Even in the Middle East, where they, probably have more reason to hate us than most, I found it was only the extremists that hated us, and not so much Britain, but the west in general. Being British still has kudos and opens doors in most of the world. The people I’ve met who actually hate Britain are usually British themselves a

We’ve even got Fijians in the SAS, only the best, whatever nationality! Cheers.

Muslim U.N. Peacekeeping troops in Cambodia trying to stop Buddhists from slaughtering each other ; Cheers.

Not wanting to take sides, just talking facts. I doubt we’ve had a truly Christian army since the crusades. More up to date in modern history; the Arab (muslim), Revolt, led by Col. Lawrence, helped defeat the Ottoman Empire (muslim) and lead to us winning WW1. Sikhs fought in the trenches of the Western Front, and Gurkha Buddhists fought with distinction in the Falklands and other conflicts. So it’s a bit disrespectful to bring a soldiers religion into question, in my mind . Cheers.

I’ve often been accused of being a “barrack room lawyer”, but if I’m ever up in front of the beak, I’d request your representation, depending on legal aid, of course! Cheers.
-
Apart from your, in my mind, overly prosecutor barrister like language , I admire and applaud your rebuttal ! LOL ! Cheets.

“Anal seepage” ? Dear Lord, have I created a monster ? Cheers.

Oh, yes , I agree about being lead inexorably into conflict with Russia, but I see it as the great strategists of the 19th century did, a great game of chess, with alliances changing, global interests changing, etc. Lets not forget, in living memory, Russia and China were our allies, Germany and Japan our enemies, now the reverse. Slightly further back , France Spain and Holland were the enemy. Iran, at the time of the Shah were our friends, as were the Arabs, and Turkey were the enemy. Now, strategically, we need to be Americas friend. We, the UK , have interfered in
