I may not be representative of the “British people” , I’ve never been in the military , but I’ve worked along side them in a support role during wars, and I’ve never met a more dedicated , professional bunch of people ! I still don’t get what you mean. We’ve always travelled, in fact I think we were the first country to have passports, but Russians weren’t allowed to leave Russia but as soon as they could , they did in great numbers. You may think Russia is better than the U K, I don’t, but I respect your opinion so we will just have to agree to disagree. Cheers.

I may have mentioned this before; some years ago I got into a heated debate with Peter Hitchens . He was back then a self confessed communist and Russophile. He was extolling the virtues of life in Russia, so I asked him if it was so good and the west was so bad , why had he repatriated back to the UK ? I looked at it aswell, but all figures were for the time, inflation wasn’t taken into consideration and I sure wasn’t going to get my calculator out. Anyway, my point was in my other reply about out lot selling everything and it going into the Exchequer, yes, it was probably wasted but some of it went to Education, the NHS, etc, whereas the Russian sell off went to a few chosen Oligarchs. When the likes of Thatcher and Brown privatised most of the utilities and industries, they sold them to the highest bidders and the proceeds went into the Exchequer. When Putin sold off Russias infrastructure, he sold them to his cronies for next to nothing and the profits went into THEIR pockets making them billionaires. After the fall of the Soviet Union, Putin turned Russia into a Kleptocracy; sharing out all the industry and wealth with his friends and supporters.
