Not wanting to take sides, just talking facts. I doubt we’ve had a truly Christian army since the crusades. More up to date in modern history; the Arab (muslim), Revolt, led by Col. Lawrence, helped defeat the Ottoman Empire (muslim) and lead to us winning WW1. Sikhs fought in the trenches of the Western Front, and Gurkha Buddhists fought with distinction in the Falklands and other conflicts. So it’s a bit disrespectful to bring a soldiers religion into question, in my mind . Cheers.

Oh, yes , I agree about being lead inexorably into conflict with Russia, but I see it as the great strategists of the 19th century did, a great game of chess, with alliances changing, global interests changing, etc. Lets not forget, in living memory, Russia and China were our allies, Germany and Japan our enemies, now the reverse. Slightly further back , France Spain and Holland were the enemy. Iran, at the time of the Shah were our friends, as were the Arabs, and Turkey were the enemy. Yes, most likely as a warning to the government to increase military spending or at least stop the cuts in military spending. Trump warned NATO to comply with the agreed military spending of 2% of gdp and not depend on the US of carrying them. We comply and have promised to raise it to 2.5% but I doubt Labour will honour that when they get in. Cheers.

I do find it strange that some of these royals, especially Prince Edward, flaunt medals that the queen gave them just for being family. Strangely enough the two most reviled royals at the moment, Andrew and Harry, actually have earned campaign medals ! Funny old world, ain’t it ? Cheers.

Because universities depend on the money overseas students pay to survive, otherwise they would have to charge British students exorbitant and unaffordable fees. Simple economics. Cheers.

Both my late children were privately educated; one was possibly the youngest British overseas diplomat and the other was a corporate accounts manager with Barclays in Dubai. Sounds like I’m bragging? No, just immensely proud of what they achieved. Im a great believer in education, and whatever people may say or think, this is still one of the worlds best places to be educated. Cheers.

I have two nieces with good degrees, my daughter in law has a masters degree, and my late niece in New Zealand had a doctorate. I consider them anything but dense.All gainfully employed and a joy to converse with. Maybe I’m just lucky ? Cheers.

I like watching re-runs of MASH, and in an episode the other night, Hawkeye Pierce was on trial for insubordination. The presiding officer, in summing up, said “ I wouldn’t like an officer like Captain Pierce going over the top with me, but as a surgeon, I’d sure like him being there when I came back “. Point being, they all have their jobs, the privately educated military surgeon is just as important as the comprehensive educated rifleman or the Sandhurst educated intelligence officer……or even Stiffy driving his bulldozer ! I’m well aware of him. His troops were pinned down so he did what he thought leadership was all about; he attacked the enemy and his men followed, and most military theorists think this changed the course of the battle. It’s not about his background or education, it was about leadership and bravery. You are openly saying Officers are all Hooray Henry’s who only have their rank because of their background, that is just absolute class hatred and nonsense. Many officer have won bravery awards for “going over the top” with their men; Colonel “H” Jones springs to mind. He was awarded a posthumous VC, even though he shouldn’t have done it. Cheers.

He’d be better off learning the State Anthem Of The Russian Federation for when Labour decommission our armed forces and nuclear deterrent , leaves NATO and invites their Russian friends in ! The only Russian words he needs to know are “tovarwich” and “spasibo”. Cheers.
