Yes, time moves on, and at this juncture, I reckon we have reached a pinnacle as regards getting what we want, from the Wild Canids.. Our Sheepdogs are superb, our racing and coursing dogs are amazing, and even the diminutive dirt dawgs have been bred to go deep, if needed? and,.. feck me, even our working ferrets are top notch? The hunting life , as we know it in the UK, is destined to change,...and its a crying shame that just when the breeders finally created something really special,.. the laws of the land will dictate, that such phenomenally unique animals, can no longer be used...

Partridges will often sit amazingly tight, especially if the weather is keeping them hunkered down....

Perhaps the genetic influence of the Dingo, amongst the localised herding dogs of the earliest settlers, has now been totally eradicated and is therefore difficult, if not impossible, to give any scientific credence to? Given the stockman's intense dislike, and noted hatred for the wild dog Dingo, I doubt any such mating, either by accident or design, would ever receive nationwide publicity...however, it would be a ridiculous premise to suggest that amongst the vast wilderness of outback Australasia, that no such couplings twixt Collie and Dingo, ever took place ? Scientific data is

Thanks Neal,....?

I am keeping well away, from all things Kelpie? But, just for my own curiosity Neal,...what were Bill's conclusions, regarding the Dingo.. yes,....or no ?

Hi, the Chinning Bar is simply a piece of Fence Wire, pushed into a couple of holes to keep it in place. I do believe there was an Article, on How to Modify the Victor Rat Trap, somewhere on this site ? Facts are, I was given my Victors (already Modified) by my dear old friend, from Mid Lothian...?

? Yes,.. I've found that, same as in most forms of hunting,..it pays to be adaptable and versatile in your approach.. I feel that you have kinda got, to 'go with the flow' and be prepared to use various ways and means to effect a victory.. As hunters, we are always learning,.. frequently from our mistakes, and this is the way it has always been...? As for rats,.. well, some are childishly easy to take out, whilst other specimens seem to have an ultra, inborne spookiness, that needs to be taken into consideration. Personally, I try to offer a bait that tempts them to act,

You have a good hearted attitude Sam,...and you have obviously put the welfare of your jukel before anything else. With experience, ..comes knowledge and confidence, and you kinda get to know, if its a 'Vet Job' ,..or not...? It's good to see a guy showing a bit of care...our dogs frequently suffer for our passion, and we share in their success? Therefore, its only right that we foot the bill for all the excitement and pleasure, their athleticism brings us.. All the best for the future,.. regards, OldPhil.?

Proper whippet,...? I've hunted with two of that line, both jet Black, both incredibly prey driven....?

You are correct TOMO, and a heavy lead line on a big net, don't bear thinking about? But,.. when you are working miles of hedgerows, often with sunken ditch bottoms, or bumpy old pastures, trust me, that lead line on a small 'stop net',... really does fit the bill... However, that is just my humble opinion, and I could well be wrong....? To be honest, the short Stop Nets have been my saviour on paid rabbit jobs,.. the customers love to see them in action,... feck crawling in dense bramble, laying copious amounts of purse nets, frequently for scant reward. Of course, Purse

Great nets for covering gaps and rough ground....?

You are certainly earning your corn Moorman? I used to trap on large farms, and grass producer's fields,..it was great trapping, and the moles filled the traps every day.. I think its a bit like the rabbiting game, where I always used to urge young guys, to get out and about, and travel to an quality area, where they could fill their boots. Once you have killed, 'in quantity' it kinda settles your mind, and you can then get on with the important business, of earning your living.. We all do things differently, and that is the way things have to be,...mercifully, after severa

Running fast hounds after Deer, in dense woodland,.. well, its pretty obvious that sooner or later, your dogs will get seriously hurt... ? Of course, back in the day, we were different men,....it just didn't seem to matter,.. they, either learn the ropes and stayed in one piece, or feck it, shit happens, tough luck kinda thing...? Nowadays, I am far more soft-hearted, and I always try to avoid that dangerous old game,.. facts are, I'm fortunate in that I have many other, far easier options. Its curious, but ever since I first started to meet other lurcher guys, there has alway

No mystery to pegging out a Trad Long net Guss? Just get your End Pin in the ground, and then peel the net off the other Pin, which you hold in your hand... This type of netting is great for gaps when hedgerow splitting, rabbit crossing places, etc... Sometimes in dense brash or when negotiating several fences, a Basket can become a pain, and you are far more in control when the net is in your hand. Obviously if you are running out, hundreds of yards of mesh to surround massive warrens, the Basket method is ideal.. Give it a go Guss,.. you will enjoy the freedom...?

? Clear as mud Neal? I can only talk from a personal (and practical) point of view, and my rabbiting ACD based lurchers, were created from a union of Greyhound x Heeler put to a Hard Blood ,non-ped Racing whippet.... The resulting pups took Deer, Foxes and Hares, and obviously ,rabbits... Personally, I found the hybrid to be less than satisfactory...? My initial reason for using Australian Cattle Dog blood was solely to try and breed in, their excellent feet.. I had no other agenda. My F1 hybrids were a great success and seemed virtually indestructible, and paid s
