    It’s advertised as being 100fps faster than other 17grain hmr ammo. I put some over the chrono and they were just that. As for accuracy, exactly the same as the other cci made 17grain hmr ammo in my cz.

    Keeping lead away from water, that’s a joke. Lead flashing to keep the rain out of roofs, millions of them all over the country every time it rains.

    No, nothing. Been keeping an eye out for those and also the Norma fragmenting lead free .22’s to try out. I’m hoping the small calibre lead bullets will be exempted from a ban as in the proposals it actually states that a ban on small calibre lead bullets wouldn’t be practical. Let’s hope they stick to it?

    I don’t use mine very often either Mark, I keep intending to take it out more but I’ve never been enamoured with the calibre. Although the little .17 bullets are very effective on small vermin I use .22 mostly

    The .177’s are a bit below as I understand it, but they’re up there in .22

    It was actually around 11.5 out of the box. It is v-Mach tuned now, but that has made it smoother rather than more powerful. Not that it wasn’t smooth out of the box, it was very usable. I don’t think you can beat them for the money.

    Are the Gamo Phox and G40 bsa’s with a Gamo badge? I understand they’re made in Birmingham. I’ve seen G40’s at £350 new so looks like a bargain.

    After the poor results on the top three 5 shot groups yesterday, I got rained off. This morning I tried the bottom right at 30 yards and they were accurate. Bottom left at 35 yards, much better than at 25 yards but opening up slightly. They must be stabilising somewhere between 25 and 30 yards? Anyway, there’s another problem, and it’s a major one. This rifle is running at a very consistent 598fps/10.66ft lbs with 13.43 grain jsb jumbo rs. Now, the 9.56 grain h&n ftt green went over the chrono at a very consistent 778fps/12.85ft lbs? so I cant use lead free pellets in the hw99 unless I red

Whatever, it’s looking like anything bigger than .22 hasn’t got much longer on lead. I’ve just tried some H&N ftt green at 25 yards with my v-mach hw99. Only shot three five shot groups and got rained off. I’ll post a picture of the target and some chrono results tomorrow if I have time. I don’t think anyone will be surprised at the results.

    Yerr, more of an accumulation over the years Jake, plus a couple of mixed bundle buys that were so cheap I’d have been daft to turn down.

    You got me thinking about lead pellets Jake, just had an approximate count up of some of my accumulated oddments and it’s around 14,800 - .177’s, 5,500 - .20’s 11,500 - .22’s and 1,400 - .25’s. So 33,200 in total. Hope I don’t have to throw them all away?. I also found some lead free H&N’s that I’d forgotten about, price says £14:50 for 200?. I’ll give them a go in a spring rifle and pcp at varying fac speeds to see how they perform.

    I’ve been using steel shotgun cartridges for years. Some of the early ones were poor, to say the least, but the current hp steel are good in my opinion. They’ve come on a lot with development as will airgun pellets if they have to I’m sure. Research and development will achieve desired results but will probably take time to get right. Necessity is the mother of invention as they say...

    A pal of mine had one and used and abused it for a few years. Eventually it started jamming a lot, but that might have been due to neglect? He only got £30 for it and replaced it with a benelli. Due to low resale value, you might be better off buying an old Winchester pump or similar?

    He also said they use a bolt instead of a side lever because it keeps everything in line. Now they use a side lever.....?
