  1. It's a grand day to be out and I'm stuck at work with beer loving dead beats ?
  2. Yes, it works with 95 gr to 160gr bullets and uses nice slow powders. I always like slower powders for there recoil characters. The groove diameter is very close to 7mm. It's actually closer to being a 7mm than a 6mm!
  3. I made do with a Lee load all in 12g. I loaded in the week for the weekends pigeon shooting. We scrounged thousands of cartridges from a shops feller that got flooded. I remember our cars flat to the road with the weight of them. We salvaged the shot, wads and powder, took notes and reloaded the lot over many years. Good times....now I just have a Lee loader and a few components.
  4. I shot my longest fox ever many moons ago now with Speers version of the same bullet.
  5. 6.5 X 55 is a peach of a cartridge and I prefer it to anything 6mm.
  6. There was definitely a delayed combustion going on. I could hear and sense a "phutt" sound. This is usually when the bullet is popped out the case and kind of stops and then the powder kicks in. Can be dangerous in big rifles.
  7. The last lasers I tried ( recently) are good mate. They are good performers and strong and that's the issue! Switching from subs to them is a drastic elevation change I can't be fussed with. That's why I am interested in that hornady loading. It sounds like a strong standard velocity so with out a mod should be not to noisy but give a little more umph.
  8. Pants mate, won't cycle reliably. Some squib loads too. If I got five in a row to shoot well they were good but I won't bother again. The Fiocchi may not be the best and it showed up earlier but they are dependable. Check the Winchester brass out, I ain't never seen 22 brass like that! Single shoting it and yes the good ones were good just off hand shooting at 200yds they were very predictable but I won't bother buying more of them. It may just be this batch as old 40grn win subs were very good. Thought I would let you know. SD.
  9. They law says ' a shotgun licence shall be granted' sans certain criminal offences. Firearms, ' a good reason has to be supplied by the applicant'. Technically you don't need anything to own a shotgun licence.
  10. Ain't that the way....we sneak about and see nowt, make a din and they show up. Always fancied rattling antler but never have.
  11. Was out one night lamping rabbits when I were a lad. Found two bucks intent on killing each other on a windy night. I was able to sneak right up to them . They were oblivious of me feet away with a dim red light. I was so close I had to back up a few times and distinctly remember watching the shock waves rippling down their bodies as the locked antler at speed. It was awesome.
  12. Spotted this and thought stav could use one today! https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.co.uk%2Fulk%2Fitm%2F162394480949
  13. Sorry mate, I forgot it was your first day tomorrow. I'm sure it will be good but temps are expected to be lower so don't get a chill.
  14. They were good mate sure but not the best ? If that extra weight helps the action cycle and they are reasonable accurate they go in the book of good eating for the Marlin.
  15. Started at ten here. Think it's here tomorrow too. Feel sorry for any big shoots tomorrow. I remember watching a team of guns standing all morning in a blizzard, even my young lab was feeling it by lunch. I put him in the cab and left the engine running blowing warm air on him. One spaniel had to be put in a hesian sack quick! The shoot was stopped at lunch for fear of cars getting stuck. Good times.
  16. Never understood the different models, they all look the same to me but that's just my ignorance. Once handled and shot a hornet once. That was pleasant. A delux model. No idea what the model number was.
  17. They were not that spectacular in the Brno and oddly the Marlin is copying everything the Brno did.....so far.
  18. Sounds delicious. The store bought stuff is always to sweet for me. How do you like yours mate?
  19. Subs, the fiocchi's. They are ok but not fantastic so am using them up. CCI are in stock for when they are gone. I picked up 100 42 GRN wini subs to try in the auto earlier too. Not tried them yet, they were mediocre in the Brno!
  20. ....to beat the rain. Still had me though. Out pre dawn and hit a large oak wood to hit the squirrels with the 22. Classic small game hunting. Got 14 in the end. Nearly lost the dog! Looks as though she had been down an earth by the colour of her! She returned from God knows to my rabbit squeal! Silly mutt. Fires are lit, dog showered, I'm drying out, where's the gin ?.
