  1. No, he was a rescue, maybe a bit of lakie but something else to make him so big, possibley beagle? I wanted him as a bushing dog but he ended up a bit big to be fast enough through the brambles, he has other talents though, great ratter, very good in water and sometimes his size helps him out Blackstaff - i cant take the credit for the pictures, Amy took them!
  2. An interesting question, I think its possible the anti's dont do anything about it because its the fact that we want to hunt that they object to. If mxyi was gone there would have to be more hunting to control the population. They would rather the rabbits died a long slow death of myxi rather than be killed cleanly by hunting. Logistically i doubt it would be possible to get rid of it, i cant think of a practical way of immunising the entire rabbit population. Im also not convinced that its mxyi causing the current decline in rabbit numbers, myxi has come and gone in a fairly regular l
  3. Same round here, places that were heaving are now totally barren. Its a real shame and i dont know whats causing it
  4. Thanks, the terrier is a border based mongrel, 16tts and a lump of a dog and the pup is nearly 6 months old colliexgrey x lurcherxlurcher
  5. Took the pup and the terrier for a nice walk today as the other two are laid up. It was funny weather, sun and rain and a rainbow, didnt come out too good in the picture though. Think i made the pics a bit big, this could take a while lol
  6. A good day out by the looks of it! Some lovely open ground too, very nice!
  7. I'd say lay him off for the summer, concerntrate on training and building up a good bond with the dog and then you'll be all set ready for next season. If you keep trying to work him untrained and unresponsive you'll both get frustrated and he could pick up some bad habits that'll be hard to break later. Good luck with him
  8. I had a nice day out yesterday with Blackstaff and his son Bill. We did two different bits of ground and ended up with 17 rabbits, 2 cans of stella and a bottle of red wine! The latter were from a greatful landowner! We were mostly bolting into long nets but little Bill did his first solo bury using just a ferret and Pearl, added another 2 bunnies to the bag. Well done Bill! Had a slightly sketchy moment when a woman neighbour turned up saying she "worked in animal welfare and what were we doing?" Luckily both Blackstaff and I are gifted PR experts, we explained how it worked and offer
  9. Maybe spend the time training the pup before getting rid? Sounds like its not got manners which is pretty much down to how its been brought up and trained, how much effort does your wife put in to them? Its no good you training the pup if she lets it all slip when your not there
  10. My mate made mine. He used a chain saw same as above but also fitted a feed from the chain oil tank, the feed runs into the exhaust pipe into a chamber made by welding 2 washers inside the pipe. We fill the chain oil tank with a mix of old engine oil, diesel and white spirit. Once the exhaust is hot this mix pumped into the chamber makes masses of smoke which is propelled by the exhaust pressure. It works well just need better ground with more rats on it, farms round here dont seem to have many rats!
  11. Mine for next season, 5 1/2 months, colliegreyxlurcher. Im pleased with her so far
  12. Personally i'd swap the stock over for a sporter, its a piece of art for sure but just too much for anything but a dedicated target rifle in my opinion. The action, on the other hand, is great. I've shot a .20cal FN19 for the last 12 years and cant recommend them highly enough. Good shooting whatever you decide
  13. I use one of those plastic tools boxes, it doesnt get hot or wet or fill with condensation like everyone says they will. I have a ply divider to split it into two sections and seperate opening lids underneath the plastic lid. To be honest though you may as well buy a ready made one, they've got so cheap recently. Picked up a small bowback at the CLA for £20 without even haggling or trying to shop around. By the time you've bought the tool box and fiddled around fitting a strap, air holes etc it ends up costing the same either way.
  14. Yep, hes sat in the cage now with a lamp shade collar on looking very sorry for himself.
  15. Sure he'll heal up quick, he always does, its just bad timing with so little of the season left. Tyla was fit and going well but then tore her nail bed, thats nearly fixed but not quite yet so im back to no running dogs again! Its my dream to start and finish a season without any lay offs, should think your the same!!! Cant see it happening though, if they're out alot they are always going to get the odd knock.
  16. I had to go and meet a supplier near my old place this morning but knew it wouldnt take all day so took a couple of ferrets, Parker and Willow, the 5 month old puppy, along. Meeting was done by 11 but it was pissing down. Hung around for a bit until it eased off about 2 then went for a wander round some woods with a few small buries in. Didnt bother with any nets as they've only just dried from the other day and i wanted the pup to watch Parkers on bolters. There were a few rabbits above ground which Parker ran to earth and then were bolted by the ferrets. We bolted about 4 from different
  17. Well done mate, Sooty came good!!! We'll have to get out before the season ends
