Lamping, Stalking and a mooch with the airgun

Yep, lifes a bitch lol -
I've had my say and I'll leave it at that. Some of the members im talking about are still on here but dont seem to post much anymore. If you want to know what i mean just have a look at the old pages. Oddly there were also alot from mods before they were mods, maybe it would be nice to see mods posting a bit more?

Fairplay, but maybe get him doing what he needs to do first. Trying to train two dogs at once is a bit of a nightmare, and i bet you will favour one, and one will get left out, or they dogs will just take themselves off and ignore you. Spend the summer getting him fit, learning etc, and try it all out next winter, and if you really do enjoy it etc, THEN start to think about doubling your pack. You shouldnt get a dog you dont KNOW you have the work for, but of course its your call. I'd be very interested to see what your lad can do, i bet he surprises you. Good advice -
Your welcome mate, probably have a last crack at them next week. Now its ploughed i expect they'll move soon. All the dogs are done in, just been round herdwick and his are all passed out and Ollie is zonked on the sofa as a special treat!

Nice mate, i expect i'll meet them at the shows this summer

Really mate? How about you state how you come to that conclusion? Or did you just pluck it out of the air because you've nothing better to do? Im no woman and i think alot of good could come from this thread. This site has gone downhill and lost alot of members who made it good because of the number of wasters on here now. If that can be reversed, and it sounds like the mods are going to try and do so, is that a bad thing?

Went for our usual ratting today, me, herdwick, Water Badger and L&A plus the terriers. Started off fairly slowly but soon got into the swing of things. They were alot less keen to bolt today but Water Badger was like a machine with the spade. He gets rather excited, even coursing a rat down the open field without the dogs! He took it with a perfect sliding tackle and was helped at the finish by Ollie. Herdwick and i were in stitches! L&A's pup Maggy did extremely well for her second time out. No problem catching and killing the rats, except one that got hold of the top of her

Right, you're best off finding someone who knows what they are doing, has a bit of ground and is willing to take you out. Its the best way to learn and it'll save you making mistakes that could be avoided. Sounds like Stanleigh might be willing as long as you seem half sensible. Make sure your dog is obedient, safe round all livestock and reasonably fit. Good luck and nice looking dog by the way

I use a lenser P14, its ok for bits and pieces but no good for long runs and not a touch on a real lamp. It does have its uses though, handy for scouting bits of new ground and the odd close run. I reckon it would be good with the airgun too but i've not tried it yet.

Cheers lads, off ratting now. I'll put a post and some pics in the terrier section later -
I've had a busy few days and as we've agreed to post more genuine topics to help sort the forum out i thought i'd write it up. Started thursday night out lamping with Blackstaff and his dogs, mine being out of action for various reasons. We did some new untouched fields, the rabbits were totally unphased by the lamp but went like rockets once on the move and took advantage of the rough pasture to unsight the dogs. The runs were fast and furious and the dogs were really having to work for their catches. We ended on seven, there were plenty more rabbits to go at but both dogs had taken knock

Wow, i've been away for a couple of days and this thread is still going. I obviously hit a nerve! I'd like to say thanks to to IanB for reading it and offering to try and do something about it. I shall try and post decent topics more often, if everyone did the same perhaps we'd be heading in the right direction? That and trying to use then report button instead of biting on daft threads. One suggestion for the site, dont know if its possible or not, how about if every member had to start a topic say once a month to keep their membership active? Obviously some will just put something da

Cheers mate, glad to know its not just me the gets bothered by it

Dammit, just as im off to bed you ask questions that make me think lol I think there have always been idiots and people who are cruel. I do think though that in the past when it was more open then lads probably served an apprenticeship with older men who would be more likely to teach them the right way of doing things. Now more experienced blokes are less keen to take youngsters along so they are teaching themselves, copying their peers and learning off here. The internet hasnt helped and camera phones have been a disaster for hunting, they allow every little turd to broadcast their wr

Is that not shite stirring? Not that I mind. Some of the idiots on here are to me proper entertaining in some ways. But I must agree they do nothing for field sports and we could do without them, but hey the world is full of them. Course its shit stirring, thats why i named the most recent culprits. It'll be no news to them as i said the same thing on the original threads. Problem is that we all hate the ban so its hard to condemn people for breaking it but, to me anyway, its the way they break it and the fact they seem unable to just enjoy their sport without bigging themselves u

Absolutely right. Anyone that genuinely thinks this is acceptable disgusts me. I care in the same way i care about dispatching my quarry humanely. I have a strong belief in whats right and wrong and i stick to it. Im no anti but i see so called hunters who treat their quarry with contempt as the lowest of the low. A genuine hunter rerspects their quarry otherwise they are just killers.

Your probably right, i said in the first post that i wasnt sure what i was trying to acheive and was just venting lol. If it makes you feel any better the one that set me off today was hardcorelamper in his last 2 status updates, .terrierman. (i think) on his post about cubbing (a necessary evil but not one that needs to bragged about the way he did) where i made my feelings plain. A little while back it was about starting pups on caged cubs, cant remember who that was, need i go on? You know full well the point i was making, i've made it before and im sure i'll end up making it again.

I think there is a slingshot forum (pm tyler if he is not out practicing missing stuff ) or go to craft/diy on this site he is spot on you have to practice at every oppo good tip he gave me is hang a sheet up behind targets to collect spent ammo bag from earlier on in the year -
Or best to tell the truth? Problem is some people dont seem to have mastered the art of knowing what can and cant be said on an open forum? Just out of interest, from whereabouts in Sussex?
-
No doubt there is but i choose not to be involved in them for these very reasons
-
I expect your right, cant honestly see what can be done about it. Some of these posts make my blood boil and make me want to reply and have it out with them but whats the point, you just get called out by some kid on the other side of the country who just likes killing things and wants everyone to know about it. Its just getting to the point that i only read posts by people that i know are going to post something worth reading but that means trolling through pages of dross. Simoman, i think your right. We should all know what goes on and what should be posted and what should be left unsaid
