  1. Pish bout flicking light a rabbit runs on scent not sight so it knows where it's running Different strokes for different folks, i've always done it and it works for me. I think its the shadows flickering in the hedge that puts it off rather than not being able to see its way home though. Best advice is try everything your told and if it works keep doing it, if i dont then try something else. You'll soon work out your own system
  2. Shame, i dropped the ball on that one lol. Thanks anyway Comanche and good luck Karl and Stephen
  3. I love these quarry ident threads, reminds me of one involving a rabbit masquerading as a hare
  4. Lol, they are bloody good. Got two 10ah ones off cluson, much better deal than deben. Get saving mate
  5. Might be a silly question but have you got onto Doglost? Supposed to be pretty good. Bumped it up if nothing else
  6. I use a catty a fair bit out with the dogs although i've let it slide over this summer. If i dont use it for a while i cant hit a barn door to start with but dosent take long to get back on it again. Had a fair few bits and pieces over the years.
  7. Nice to see some hunting posts up. Well done dogs and well done Jim for giving them the chance at them.
  8. That is a whole new slant on it Casso, makes alot of sense. I thought this was pretty much resolved, the symptoms if not the cause, but obviously not. Thanks for everyones input before and hopefully again. Bloody dogs.
  9. We were out, weather was perfect, ended up with six but should've had more tbh. Dog had a bit of a row yesterday and got bit in the snout, meant he was only breathing through his mouth, i was suprised it made such a difference to his recovery time. Called it a night early much to his disgust
  10. Well done mate, last nights weather was perfect. We were out for a bit, only managed six though, poor old dog got bitten in the nose during the day and had to breathe through his mouth all night. Really took it out of him, especially on the retrieve.
  11. My jrtxwhippet has turned in feet and very straight pasterns. As of yet had no problems with him and he gets out and about plenty. He is a bit of a freak though, very heavy front end and light on the back end, he certainly hasnt got perfect conformation! On the other hand he works his heart out, has brilliant feet and very seldom picks up an injury. Whether it catches up with him in the future though, only time will tell.
  12. Even with the rain is was a good morning, just nice to be out doing a bit again
  13. Herdwick, Blackstaff, his boy and I had our first proper walk round this season. Met at herdwicks for a coffee, had a look at the weather and decided the rain would probably hold off. Both my bitches are in season so i had Parker, jrtxwhippet, and Ollie the terrier, herdwick had his full pack out 5 jrt bitches including Tanner the new pup and his beddy whippet grey Midge and Blackstaff had his staffy bitch, Dolly, and her daughter Pearl bullwhippetgrey. We set out just as it started to spit, looked like showers but it was warm so left jackets in the van - how wrong we were! Within half
  14. Handy for the flying rabbits that dog! Lol, very. I have another bitch that specialises in a harrier jump jet impression, suprised untold pheasants and a fair few crows with that one! The rabbit in the pic started out in the stubble field behind him, it thought squatting would save it but i spotted it. Had to lift him up so he could see over the stubble but once he clocked it he was straight on it. The picture is of the retrieve.
  15. Just make sure the shooters know what they're about. Seen idiots shoot rabbits in the mouth of a hole, just lucky the ferret wasnt close behind it.
  16. Now you've done it dan, you'll be inundated with pics now lol
  17. What puts me off is that if you do post a hunting post half the time no one bothers replying, too busy arguing the toss about nothing lol Puts you off spending the time writing it up!
  18. Thanks gurtwurz, im inspired now so expect some more for this month!
  19. My best ferreting dog is this jrtxwhippet, another good un ive seen is blackstaffs bitch, whipgreyxbull
  20. Some people start dogs this young and make it work but unless you really know what your doing i'd wait a bit
  21. Certainly beats getting suited and booted and being dragged to an expensive restaurant! Seriously though, i feel very lucky She pretty handy with a rifle too lol
