Its all swings and roundabouts, we have the same situation but it becomes worthwhile after the shooting season ends and the ratting starts! As for the rabbit arranging, think outside the box, we arranged 90 odd rats into a smiley face on the hill. Made the keeper laugh the next day.

Well done mate. Shame no one could make it, it was a good offer
-
Sounds like its not just us then, time to go looking for ground further afield i guess
-
wasnt suggesting you poach, as for who, or where to ask for permission, i cover 4 counties, with no problems, with digging out the landowners Fair enough, i obviously need more time to explore. I picked up extra permissions over the summer as i wanted to be sure of having enough rabbits to bring my pup on, looks like i should have tried further afield rather than trying to keep them all close together. In my other post it makes it seem i wont travel outside 10 mile for a shine, thats not the case as i dont live anywhere near the permissions. They are all near each other as its where

Im more than willing to travel, I just wont poach, I have an invite from my pups breeder to lincs this month and hopefully a trip to somerset too but you cant rely on invites all the time. My problem is that its hard to know who/where to ask for permission outside my area, local knowedge is hard to beat.

In answer to a few posts, I dont reckon anyone else is out there, there arnt as many lurcher lads down this way as it seems in other areas and the ground is all permission and fairly well watched. They'd be pissed off poachers anyway as its a lot of work for not much gain lol! All my ground seems to be like this too, its all in approximately the same area differents farms but all within a 10 mile radius, they held rabbits all summer and now they are gone. I think myxi hit the area hard this year. The main difference i've noticed over the last few years in a big increase in badger numbers, foxe

Girl gets ten year ban for killing a wild rabbit
Tyla replied to captainpugwash's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
Theres some f*****g wrong uns out there. Why are herds of chinks killing their pets and videoing it?!?!? As for the girl who got banned, it sounds like theres more to it than anyones saying. If she got done for cruelty and genuinely did it then good, I cant abide unneccesary animal cruelty, makes us all look bad and theres no need for it. -
Gutting, I have all of the above and love a day out in new company. Unfortunately Im booked somewhere else on Sunday. Great offer though and I'd be keen to come if the opportunity ever comes up again. Have you tried Blackstaff?

Cheers lads, i'm not too keen on the army boots. They're too high and a pain in the arse for taking on and off in day to day use, i've got a good pair of high legs i use for hunting so i just want an ankle boot that wont leak and lasts a while. I like the idea of the berghaus, price tag makes me cringe but i suppose you get what you pay for.
-
My boots have just finally gived up and given me a wet foot. I want some recommendations please, not for wellies or high leg boots, got those, just need a decent, genuinely waterproof pair of ankle boots for day to day Winter use. Cheers

Cheers mate, shes coming on well enough just needs the experience. Im out alot but only getting 5 or 6 runs a night so it takes a long time to add up to one decent night out. Having said that shes usually catches a reasonable percentage of what we do run. The wierd thing is that I know there are rabbits here as they can be ferreted and I see them in the daytime but they just arent out at night. The only time slot i havent tried is after 2am so that may have to be next, need to be at least half sensible for work though so its hard. Im sure it gets harder to find game every season! It'll be

Its a case for common sense, as has been said its not likely to happen anyway. It all depends how seriously you take your permission, some of my land owners wouldnt be happy if i took "its a free country" as an answer when telling idiots to leave, its not optional.
-
I think it all depends on the individual dog. I used to have a yellow lab that would do anything and go anywhere to get his bird. I was only young and didnt really realise what i had in him. I was picking up on an evening flight one day and sent him on a pricked bird that dropped on the other side of the lake, he swam 100 yards to it, chased it til in dived then caught it under water, as he was half way back another bird dropped on the far side and he turned round swam back and managed to pick that too while still keeping hold of the pricked bird. He than swam all the way back and retrieved bo

You'd have to be pretty unlucky to get hassled by the real deal antis while out shooting, they prefer to direct their attention at the hunts. I've only ever seen them once interfer at a shoot and i think it was just chance that one van load got seperated from the rest, took a wrong turn and bumped into a shoot day. Bad luck for everyone involved, shoot day was called off and their transit somehow fell in the duck pond. Your more likely to get grief of individuals, usually trespassing dog walkers in my experience, they're usually harmless if a bit vocal and ignorant. Best thing to do is put

I enjoyed that, nice one Brimmer

Good to see you posting again Brimmer, nothing wrong with 15 for the day. Hope the dog mends quick
-
Sometimes its useful to be covert, nothing like a bit of exploration
-
Cant win 'em all mate. Its gutting when you get new ground and it turns out no good. Still, at least it wasnt a blank
-
Here you are mate, as i said its nothing special but it has its uses.
-
They've got nothing on my opinel lol
-
Cheers Brimmer, shes got a bit of everything in her. Sire was a colliegrey and the dam was a line bred lurcher to lurcher bitch. She had pretty much everything in her except bull. Shes surprisingly fast and seems to be able to go all day, my only problem is finding enough quarry to put in front of her, there is a distinct lack of rabbits round here. There are good numbers in patches but, typically, not on my permissions. No doubt she'll feature in plenty of my posts this season

Sounds good mate, i need a decent night out. Was out last night, conditions werent too bad but just didnt seem to be any rabbits out. I know they're there as i see them daytime, must've just been something about the conditions they didnt like. Was a long night just for the one rabbit though!
-
I love a bit of bushing, we usually go every Sunday but over the last few months real life and a lack of rabbits has meant we've been out less. Nothing better than watching a pack that all know each other and work well together
-
Cheers lads, she has been watching ferreting since about 5 months but literally only watching. She was allowed to carry the rabbits (dead) from the nets to the pile but that was it. She also did a fair bit of rifle shooting with me over the Summer and had a few rabbits independently on walks. I held off any real work til she was a year old but did alot of training. Shes come on quite well, caught the first rabbit she ran on the lamp and has caught several bolted ones, understands the nets well but needs work on her retrieve. She does it but faffs about on the way back, im hoping she'll just gr

Funny you should say that, I was thinking earlier that i seem to be spending alot more time in this section since Malt sortede it out. Its suddenly become the best bit of the forum, it'd be nice if someone took the running dogs section in hand the same way. Well done Finn by the way
