  3. who would be qualified to say who is established enough, how would you judge who is classed as sensible to vouch for folk, mates helping mates ect, Dont know, ask Tommo he is "in the know" Seriously though, i hadnt thought much about it. Just got half way through reading the "is 2 leverets worth an adult hare?" after the "i got nicked for shooting my gun in public" thread and thought wouldnt it be nice to read more about hunting and less about crap. When i first came on here there were more hunting threads and less idiots, seems alot of members who used to post good threads have gon
  4. Shes the litter sister to my pup, the dam is the fawn and white bitch with the mask, lurcher to lurcher bred, and the sire is the collie grey in the last picture
  5. there already is,,, obviousley, you wernt asked to join Fair enough, no need to be catty, i'll stay out here with the peasants lol
  6. Lol at whin Go visit cluson stand, there were doing some really good deals on their new lithium batteries. For a lamp, try a striker
  7. Reading through some of the topics on here, especially in the lurcher section, sometimes makes my brain hurt. Is there any chance of a section for, shall we say, more established members? Somewhere admin has to ok you or someone sensible vouch for you before you can post? It would save having to trawl through pages of inane questions or other old crap to get to the decent posts?
  8. Mines pretty sound, runs her own dog, comes lamping, ferreting and follows hounds with me every now and again as well. It might be a different story if she didnt have the horse, all the time im out hunting she can be out riding. Not alot gets done around the house to be fair but you cant have everything, she certainly aint a whinger
  9. Interesting, mine are both pets and workers. I have one retired due to injury and shes still here so i'd probably keep them and if they were here cant image not working them. To be honest i cant really imagine having a dog as just a pet, had gun dogs before the lurchers and terrier. I wouldnt want to be without a dog and i wouldnt want to have a dog that doesnt work do i guess i will just have to keep hunting Just out of interest, Whin and Tomo in particular, as you've been involved in the dogs a long time - what would make you give up the dogs and the hunting?
  10. Good for you Martin, I started a new business at the beginning of the year and after a sketchy few months things are beginning to work out. Good luck
  11. Got pockets of ferreting land and some lamping, hoping lamping permission will soon be bigger once ive made friends and influenced people on the estate Plenty of places to "exercise" the mutts here anyway
  12. Looking good mate. Willow really has taken after her mum hasnt she? I'll try and get up to pay you a visit sometime this season, have you got much ground to go on up there yet? If your down this way at all let me know, we'll have a day/night out
  13. Build a bond with the dog and give him a job. Working dogs need to work, if you wont hunt with him try and replace it with something else, maybe agility or flyball etc You are going to need to be totally in charge of him and work on the socialising constantly. If you are willing to put the time in you might be able to change him into a pet but i think you will have your work cut out. Good luck
  14. She is the spitting image of Jess, same markings but built the same too. Sounds like the whole litter are coming on well, would be interested to see what the others look like, I saw broken tail out with the c&h last season and she'd taken much more after Taffy.
  15. Thanks fot your comments. Just got back in again, three from seven this time but the night wasnt half as good, less wind and even more moon. Pleased with her though, started watching the beam much more tonight and no problem with instant recall. Retrieves were ok but still playing with them on the way back a bit. I'll give her a night off tomorrow unless the weather is better.
  16. Which pup did you take? I think it was a cracking litter, P said the other pups were doing well. We visited them from 3 weeks and had a couple of good mooches with Taff and Jess. I'd be really interested to see any pics of your pup.
  17. Thanks, Im glad i waited rather than starting earlier. Going to do the same over the next week, two or three runs every night just her and me til we iron out the retrieve and a few other bits and bobs. Then, fingers crossed, we'll be ready for a proper night out
  18. I have been holding my pup back, waiting for her to turn a year, just doing a bit of ferreting but decided to try her on the lamp last night as the wind was too good to miss. I would have been out a week before now, as soon as she hit a year, but she came into season and I wanted to get that out the way first. Just went to a local place which i've left alone for a bit to give her a good chance. The moon was massive and the promised cloud cover was nowhere to be seen so we kept very tight to the hedgerows and in the shadows as much as possible. There were a few rabbits out but i was looking
  19. Been slow, bit of ferreting and few quick nights out with the older dog. I'd just got the dogs fit and ready and my 12 month bitch came into season. I had been waiting for her to reach a year before she started on the lamp. She finished now though so i might give her a try tonight in spite of the moon, this wind is too good to waste! Still too much cover for proper ferreting here and bit warm for too much lamping, roll on the winter!
  20. It's all round me, all my good ground i've been watching over all summer and now its got mixy. Just have to wait and see how severe it is this year, sometimes they are wiped out sometimes not so bad. Filthy f*****g thing it is.
  21. Heard of people doing it and carrying bolt crops for chained gates, the same pricks who show the same degree of respect to their dogs and quarry as they do to the land. I avoid them like the plague but the sad fact is that it only takes a few like that to ruin it for everyone and there are more than a few about. With fools like these involved in the game we are our own worst enemy.
  22. I'd agree with that, lovely solid legs and feet. Whats the temperament like?
  23. Depends on the dog and the injury. My bitch came back from two amputated toes but never really recovered from a torn shoulder ligament. Shes a pet now but still wrecks herself whenever she gets the chance. Too keen for her own good.
