  1. I use 9.5mm steel. 76 gzk green. 23/18 taper 17cm active length with 1cm for tying to forks. ttf. Will it be different for ott using clips.
  2. nice little bitch far better with lad ?
  3. afternoon catty practice and it's blowing a fxxxcking gale. wait till September when you want it to blow for longnetting and you will be able to hear a fxxxcking duck fart in Manchester it's sods fxxxcking law.
  4. excuse my ignorance so my active draw is 17cm what band length should I be using?
  5. same here mate thought they all used the old milbro. got good advice on here and a basic gadder as we call them around here, handy tool when out mooching with little dog.
  6. saw a video on YouTube where it said if using clips you need to cut your bands shorter. any truth in this?
  7. different areas different needs. around here it's hedgerows, Old railway embankments etc. so bushing is essential but good dog's adapt to change of ground. yours are doing the business for you, I know they are line bred but the Whippet side of them are they kc or non ped?
  8. Yes I would say those little rabbit dogs of yours will pick up the odd rabbit. my kind of dogs ??
  9. well my take on it is yes good little rabbit dogs, ie don't expect to be coursing hares, killing foxes pulling down deer with them. this is hypothetically speaking as we on hunting life would not condone anything illegal with our mutts. so yes bred for one thing.
  10. good nose and working cover is more genetics for me. if it was all about how you rear them what's point in choosing particular crosses? you may as well just pick any mongrel up.
  11. socks is right with his comment in my opinion. you say most average lurchers should do the job of ferreting and bushing. plenty of dogs won't mark reliably. seen many dogs that are very cover shy and have a poor nose. some seem more concerned about running than finding it's game. so a good little rabbit dog will mark, work cover pick a few up on the lamp.basically do what a good rabbit dog should.
  12. what's the percentage? 5 eighths whippet, 2 eighths wheaton and 1 eighth Bedlington?. whatever they should be a handy little dogs ?
  13. it's a beautiful place. I have nothing to run with these days, only a little mooching dog that might take the odd one off its seat..
  14. saner heads or age my friend? I find myself these days looking at nearby roads and railway lines and not letting the dog go. years ago I wouldn't bat an eye, turning into a right old fart, or I have I finally learnt something?
  15. reaching 95 and getting shot by a jealous husband would be better.
  16. whippets are £1200 and upwards seen some at £1900 and a beddywhippet bitch few months old at £1200.
  17. update for anyone interested. sentencing today. gunman got 13 years, accomplice got 8 years and driver got 4 and a half years. glad it's now all over.
  18. remember henry Wharton the boxer, travelling lad fought Benn and eubank any distant relative two crows?
  19. should be a good mix. is the bitch a three quarter whippet Bedlington?
  20. people can call me old fart all they like but things have changed and certainly not for the better. they were great times. I am just getting into the catapult now, not in a big way but its handy for mooching and when little dog trees squirrels. never been a shooting man but had the odd folding fourten and air rifles, got shut now if Joe public sees anyone armed police helicopter is up.
  21. we have them here in Derbyshire. years ago you could have a good day at them. moors are full of do gooders now straight on phones to plod or rangers.
  22. thanks for the offer. I would like to try them. did you find them strong enough for 9.5mm steel?. what bands are you using for 8mm?
  23. Yes I find active length 17cm is just right.
  24. only thing with catty shack is ready made bands are ott. I am on ttf at moment and always buy ready made bands.
