  1. Very wet up there this morning, stirring them up on Saturday has done the trick, the birds are in all them main drives now and were waiting to be fed, after feeding I went to the farm to bag wheat up and the lad there said he’d been talking to someone who was there on Saturday who couldn’t believe how many birds were there and said they might be after a keeper next season for their syndicate, told him someone who might do it and he just laughed and said “ we pay you know “ ?
  2. Rattling around on a terex dumper all day today, lad said will you come and drive the dumper, I don’t trust these idiots, I thought, must be a new one, oh no, came off the same production line as the ark
  3. Roast beef today with homemade sage yorkie puds ?
  4. It’s not looking good this bird flu, at the minute I’d be surprised if we get a full season out of it, part of me still thinks that when we couldn’t get our full quota of birds we should of given it a year off and just had a Christmas wildie day
  5. It’s my favourite part of the day, we only started doing it when I got more involved with it and now we take turns with the nibbles and everyone tries to out do each other ?
  6. Venison sausage rolls for the workers tomorrow ?
  7. First day done first drive was “tip drive” started of slow with half a dozen coming out before we reached the gutter (tip) lined out again for a few more birds before we turn the drive and push it down, this is where all the birds are and it wasn’t long before they were going in every direction, after that excitement was stopped for refreshments, bramble gin and Prosecco, home made sausage rolls, apple cake and lemon drizzle. Now the “oak wood” drive, with the weather the birds were in the rape, so with the guns being behind the beating line the birds that got up would go back over and by
  8. If you are going in for your class 1 go the full hog and get your ADR, chemicals are where the proper money is, I last worked for a chemical haulage company about 10 years ago and we had lads moving nitric acid working nights 4 on 4 off and they were on 45k a year, we were on really good money in the garage but if they were short of drivers we would fight for driving shifts on our days off, you could do between 300/400 quid per shift on the chemicals ?
  9. Cheers mate, fingers crossed for a good day, I’ll be up there at sparrow fart in the morning to work out what we are going to do, there’s been a few more bird flu cases around there but there’s nothing I can do about that so it will be what it will be ?
  10. Arena finished, second sleeper wall put in to hide everything, fresh road plainings in and rolled, 12’ gate on and soiled ready for planting ? took 9 days, quoted 10, not that it matters because it was done on a day rate
  11. I’d taken it off because I swapped the scope off my .223 onto the .243, didn’t put it back together properly ?
  12. The problem was, thick lad here, took the IR out the mount, put it back in with the shim in the wrong place so couldn’t see it through through the scope because it was pointing at the fu*king moon ??
  13. Kick boards on, type one in, levelled and rolled, all weather surface that arrived today to go in tomorrow, hopefully finished on Thursday ?
  14. I didn’t even know he was filming anything apart from through his scope I’m looking at replacing the wraith soon, with a HIKMicro Alpex, I had a play with one when I was at robs and was really impressed with it, another thing I was using down there was Rekon Mark Ripley tripod, that’s an unbelievable bit of kit, it’s as stable as shooting off a bench, but 600 quid is a bit rich for some sticks ?
  15. Yeah, if they are shooting on the same day as us they can add them to their bag ?
  16. They will be getting some lead chucked at them, I’ve managed to make 3 drives that don’t have any ( or very few ) or my birds in so hopefully that will give them a few more to have a go at
  17. Nikwax TX direct spray on, about 10 quid off eBay
  18. Unbelievably wet up there this morning, I got there for 7:30 and the birds were already off roost and on the hunt for a feed, they are in every drive now and are taking a lot of feed, the piggeries are looking better and I’ve managed to draw a few more in, I’ve also managed to create an other drive over the valley where we don’t put any birds, when I got there around 10am this morning there was between 50 and 60 of next doors in the wood and along the fence. With a week to go until the first day I’ve go my fingers crossed for a good start to our season, I’ll be up there again tomorrow on the l
  19. Finished for the weekend, so gamekeeping duties in the morning the out on the deer and maybe a bit of pheasant and duck, should be finished the arena by next Thursday, gate to go on, kick boards, roll the stone and then the all weather surface ?
  20. Arena coming along, having to put a double retaining wall in the front, reclaimed sleepers and concrete just to hold it all back, maybe another 5 days and it will be done
  21. No, just getting started, but no means no, I know this because I’ve been married 12 years now ?
