If he’s getting the entry level one for an air rifle it will do what he wants perfectly well, the higher end thunder is to much scope for an air rifle ?

I think for the moment I’m going to carry on as normal, aiming for 40/50 bird days, they have got to be happy with that, before I took over I was on a day there and the bag was 8, in all the time I’ve been going they had never had a 50 bird day, they had almost 70 on the first day last weekend, I’ll just keep my eye on the numbers as we go through the season, I don’t want to get to a point where the numbers are like they used to be -

It’s all about managing your stock in a normal season, I would normally do a mix of drives aiming for between 40/50 but with the way things are at the minute I could easily do them a 100+ bird day but then people start to moan when the next couple are 30 bird days, once over they would of been over the moon with a 30 bird day,I guess I’m a victim of my own success ? -

Feeding this morning and I’d left them a day longer than I normally would, to try and make them go looking for feed, I’ve cut right back feeding around the pens and they are getting off roost and going looking for food, for some reason today by half 10 they seemed to want to be on the back field at the farm and along the tip drive, which isn’t a problem as the tip drive is always a good one to start the day off, I could just do with pulling a few of them out the other side and into the piggeries drives. Second day next Saturday and I’m left with a bit of a quandary ? do I let them shoot the sh -

Looks like there’s a break in the weather tomorrow afternoon, so I’ll be out ? until then we’ve got the snooker on the idiot box your mate was very lucky, it’s a dangerous game, not just the keepering but how many times have you been out on your own and nobody knows where you are, my missus always says “ mind what you are doing “ when I go out and I always say “ don’t worry, I’m the most dangerous thing out there “ but you can never be 100% what could happen when you are out ? -

It seems like an age since I was last out doing what I like, what with work, the flying chickens, the weather and a small problem at home, so late afternoon today I thought I’d have a look for a roe doe up at my mates farm. Well that wasn’t to be, I did see 2 bucks and one was an absolute cracker, where were they when they were in season ? anyway I decided to hang around as I’d taken the caller with me, so getting to my favourite spot facing the wood I set the caller out about 70 yards to my left as it was quite light and not a breath of wind, 10 minutes in with the caller on vixen in heat and -

Dropped some venison off for one of the local wrong’uns, I told him I didn’t want anything for it, but he said if you won’t take cash have this, I googled it and it’s £35 a bottle, he’d of been better off going to the butchers for his deer, I’ll give it a go later ?

Very wet up there this morning, stirring them up on Saturday has done the trick, the birds are in all them main drives now and were waiting to be fed, after feeding I went to the farm to bag wheat up and the lad there said he’d been talking to someone who was there on Saturday who couldn’t believe how many birds were there and said they might be after a keeper next season for their syndicate, told him someone who might do it and he just laughed and said “ we pay you know “ ? -

It’s not looking good this bird flu, at the minute I’d be surprised if we get a full season out of it, part of me still thinks that when we couldn’t get our full quota of birds we should of given it a year off and just had a Christmas wildie day -

First day done first drive was “tip drive” started of slow with half a dozen coming out before we reached the gutter (tip) lined out again for a few more birds before we turn the drive and push it down, this is where all the birds are and it wasn’t long before they were going in every direction, after that excitement was stopped for refreshments, bramble gin and Prosecco, home made sausage rolls, apple cake and lemon drizzle. Now the “oak wood” drive, with the weather the birds were in the rape, so with the guns being behind the beating line the birds that got up would go back over and by -
If you are going in for your class 1 go the full hog and get your ADR, chemicals are where the proper money is, I last worked for a chemical haulage company about 10 years ago and we had lads moving nitric acid working nights 4 on 4 off and they were on 45k a year, we were on really good money in the garage but if they were short of drivers we would fight for driving shifts on our days off, you could do between 300/400 quid per shift on the chemicals ?

Cheers mate, fingers crossed for a good day, I’ll be up there at sparrow fart in the morning to work out what we are going to do, there’s been a few more bird flu cases around there but there’s nothing I can do about that so it will be what it will be ? -
