Very interesting that Ben, I’ve just sent it to my mate because we were talking about something similar a few days ago, he is adamant that foxes don’t tend to stray more that 10 miles from their place of birth, I disagree with this as some seem to be nomadic ( more dogs than vixens although I have no real proof of this) and that sort of proves my point, so here you go Andy ( Hugo’s dad ) this is for you ??

Nowt to do with shooting but Im really enjoying my new workshop, no oil or grease, just the sound of lambs and song birds, very different to smashing away at trucks, this weeks job is a tennis lawn and to finish the week off a bit of fence repairs and a couple of field gates, all the while still offering my pest control skills to these town folk who have moved to the countryside ? -
Covid and your shoot

At the minute we are going ahead, we need to make a decision on how many birds to put down in about 2 weeks, once the order is in we are committed, don’t think it will be the same as last season but we need to make the best of it ? -
I’ve just looked at this, read the top line and looked at the top picture, I was just about to explain to you that that’s not a fox, then I read the rest of it and scrolled down ??

I’ve never had many country foxes in cage traps but catching town foxes is like shooting fish in a barrel, if you put one around the houses your going to get a fox or next doors cat
-
Back at the small holding and no sign of the vixen, cat food had gone but that could of been anything, lad had 4 of these little buggers in the cage trap so they are definitely out and about, if only the adults were daft enough to go in them?

Cracking bit of pest control there Bernard, on the sheep farm they used to have a small head of beef in a purpose built open shed every morning at first light crows would come over in their hundreds, me and my mate mosh had some cracking morning on them, as soon as they got shot of the beast they just stopped coming over the farm ?

Cracking result that, word soon gets round between the framers as to who is willing to put the work in for them and if you are straight on it and are dropping 3 your name will be getting past on ? I went back to the small holding tonight and nothing had been, cat food still there and nothing dead yet, I put the camera out and the lad said he would check it over the next week, I then went to the sheep farm as it’s just up the road, the farmer came to see me and we had a shout chat across the yard, he said he’d had nothing killed although he had seen one a week ago but all the lambs are a

I’d like my name in the hat for that please mate ?

Love that ???

I completely agree with badgers, if you have them on a sheep farm in any sort of numbers they will kill more than foxes, sheep are a lot more bothered by them, if you see a fox in a field of sheep/lambs it will mingle amongst them, when a badger is in the field everything keep its distance from it and they don’t take their eyes off it
-
Many people think that a badger lives on worms and brambles but they are a far more efficient killer than people give them credit for, they take a kill apart far quicker than a fox, and are a lot more powerful, we get a few on the sheep farm, if anything is buried in the muck heap badgers will normally dig it out, no matter how deep you put it
-
I know what you mean, normally after 2 or 3 weeks in the field the foxes don’t bother the lambs, they are primarily a scavenger so they will always take the easy option for a meal, the majority of foxes will tackle an 8 week old sick lamb laid in a field, it will study it first to make sure it’s not going to put up a fight or make a run for it, I’ve seen this on many occasions, if we have dead sheep, be it ewes or lambs of any size we will use them as bait and foxes always approach them with a bit of hesitation
-
These are around 8 weeks and although a sturdy little animal they are a flight animal, if cornered in a shed or paddock I’ve no doubt a fox would kill them, in the past I’ve seen a fox dragging a large lamb down a hedge back, I’ve also seen one dismembering a ewe in the middle of a field, they don’t always take the full carcass away in one go

1- pigeon and black pudding starter, venison loin main, lemon sponge and custard and a pint of single malt 2- Rachel Riley ( off countdown ), Rachel Riley and Rachel Riley again before she told the police about me 3- anything from my rave days, mainly because I was young and could of given a good account of myself, as it all sounds the same to me now ( because I’m old) you could pick any tune you want 4- Bernard sausage for bait?, longshanx because he could see them coming from all the way up there and ianm because the write up of our rampage would be superb 5- badgers, I’

Or a baseball bat, go mental ?
-
Tried them all, rabbit, pheasant, lone lamb it came in to field mouse but it wasn’t that interested in the call That needs killing, I’m with you that sounds like a large dog, an 8 week old lamb is a big animal for a fox to take, I suppose been in a building it could of cornered it don't know why I couldn’t upload the picture direct from my phone
-
3 hours sat in a field and it paid off, not the biggest dog but it’s been chewing its way through a few chickens, no sign of any others but I’ve no doubt I’ll be back in the future ?
-
Back at the small holding and fingers crossed for a better evening, I’ve decided to try the back field first with the caller, if I have no success here I’ll wait until dark and head closer to the house, hopefully something will show up ?
-
I’d settle for half an hour now

I don’t think we will get a full season, also it might only be 2 drives on a morning and 2 on the afternoon, but one thing that the guns could take from it is their place would be safe for the following season, we have a list of people who would like to join so it would be in their interest to pay even if they don’t come, or send a guest, or they could sell some days, I’m sure with a lot of people’s shoots not going ahead they will have no problem shifting a day or two on, one thing is for certain it won’t be business as usual but if we can keep it going until we get back to normal that’s all
