Spoken by a man who Truly knows his shit! Only, Nik; Don't ye think, " Try to hit that sukka in the lower back of the skull " might be more comprehensible to some of these lads? To be honest when they have their arse to you that is a great shot to take...just wait till the head goes up a bit and bang, very effective! DS What do you know about fox callers, I need some help...thread on.... Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns! Cheers

Guys/Gals I give in...I've never had and never used a fox caller...I have always simply made appropriate noises which have often worked...BUT... I've just got in...been out since 3.00pm.. Saw 2 rabbits, couldn't get a shot off, saw 11 pheasants, 10 cocks and just 1 hen, not taking them on this site, no deer, and NO f*****g Charlie. I am absolutely soaked and freezing with the driving wind and rain (God knows why I went out but it was ok at 3.00), just finished drying the gun and I'm still shaking.... and the rain is pounding on the window as I write this. Point is, I was so col

THANKS DEKER SEEMS ONLY YOU DITCH AND KREET UNDERSTOOD THE QUESTION... I agree that a good shot to both areas would kill a rabbit. It is not just about amount of energy in the shot but the amount of energy that can be released by the projectile in to the target that causes tissue damage. As to the comment made above "but cut off the circulation and you will kill quicker than cutting off the brainpower of a rabbit". I would have to say that this is not correct. By stopping the circulation of a rabbit/human you are preventing brain perfusion and this will cause it to become hypoxi

just a quick Hijacking to bring you this on electric fences......had a call from a smallholding about 6 weeks ago...we have just fenced off an area for the cows because the deer keep getting in and eating all the grass can you sort them out....... no problem!!! Get to site start talking...so where do they normally get through the fence then says I ........I don't know, I haven't seen any since we put the fence up!!! Never occured to them that this newly erected electric fence not only kept their cows, in but also kept all the deer out that HAD been feeding there!! Empty freezer time

Wonder back a couple of pages on this forum to: Poll: Best fox calibre poll ( hopefully) 32 trappa 825 23rd November 2007 - 10:35 AM Last post by: DM80 Best I can do, don't know how to put a proper link in but you should find it easy enough!

If they were boxer primed it's just possible you may find someone to take them for reloading, but a little unlikely unless you have loads. And you need to look at the cost effectiveness issue. You can also trade them for the scrap metal value but again unless you have loads it will be hard, and/or not cost effective. Clubs often save up big quantities and can make a couple of quid! I save mine and add them to the club box and one of our guys sells them once a year for a couple of quid which we give to charity. For the general sporting shooter I suspect most end up in the bin, I t

Guys...I have had heard it all before, people knowing people, who have a mate, who heard something, or were told about an article, who said so it must be right, or had a fish and it must have been.... Oh!.. at least this long!!!......no really it was!!! Its not simply a matter of the speed of burn ...many powders burn at different rates (and they are all designed to burn in the barrel)..its a matter of how long that force is exerted on the projectile until the energy disipates, put simply, how long the barrel is...Go to any .22LR ammo manufacturers website and compare the SAME ammo perform

Bill88 Chalk My bottle is 12L 232 bar but my gun runs at 26ft lb...Now..if I had thought, or known more about this PCP business all those years ago when I bought it I would have got something like a 9-10-12L 300Bar bottle. The problem is for Air Rifles, unlike diving, we tend to only use the high end pressure and never need a "fill"...we only ever need a "top up"...especially if you are running FAC tools. If you only EVER intend to fire a few shots every year and NEVER intend to push it up to FAC levels then I totally agree with Bill88 (something like 3L 300Bar). If you think you m

Paddy You just answered the question yourself........but when i mount it left handed i cant see a thing, its just like a mirror of what is behind me:...you are NOT looking down the tube...your eye alignment is out if you can see a reflection of what is behind you, you should not be able to see anything behind you at all because your eye/head should be right behind the tube! Mad al I don't see there is any need for the "University Challenge bollox" bit, shooting is not all about picking up a gun and pulling the trigger (as this thread demonstrates). I am convinced this has a simple an

I reckon it's probably on of the following 1. The stock is not ambi so the comb is missing when shooting from the opposite hand causing eye alignment to be well out. 2. You may have a lead eye. ie stronger/better vision in one eye and when changing to the other this will become much more apparent which will mean the eye bell/focus ring will be well out causing sighting difficulties. If the eye relief is wrong you would have problems also. Both these problems will stop you shooting well but you would still be able to use the scope, in a fashion anyway!. 3. I have seen a guy that could use bo

Mole catcher As I said above I don't think this is his problem.......but as you are obviously aware it is a problem lots of people suffer from without knowing what the problem is. I'm so glad you understand this one, the problems I have had trying to explain this to people over the years...they either don't believe you or just don't understand.!!!! Any way, as I also said if it works right handed, but not left, but then it does right handed again and so on, all it can be is the way he is looking down the scope...gun mount.....they don't start and stop working just because you chang

let me explain, the bands have a thread that the bolts screw into through the stock. these grip the mecanisiam (spelling?) the centre of the barrels bore is dead centre regardless of how you tilt metal work. this movement im talking about isnt massive but is noticable, enough to throw of a true sight picture. as for being accurate, cant fault it as for the pellet not flying true, isnt it the point of aim we adjust ( via your scope adjustments) to the point of impact? Molecatcher, I know how the Falcons work, every time I strip mine down it takes ages to remount it in the woodwo

Chalk How are you...did you see the pics of the squirrels from that job I was talking about....all taken with the Air Rifle!!! If you use the gun a lot and want to get really fit buy a pump, if you only use it rarely maybe think about buying a pump. But the answer I would give is BUY A BOTTLE. There is nothing wrong with second hand, Air Rifle bottles (Valves) are subjest to 5 year safety checks and this will be stamped on the bottle. If you only intend to use 100 shots a year buy a small bottle..... but again I would suggest you buy at least a 12Litre 232 Bar bottle. Chee

I'm struggling with this one...are we talking sights or a scope.......you are either looking down or through them whichever way you hold the gun, if it works right handed it WILL work left handed if you keep your line of sight the same...I'm not trying to be funny but you are simply not looking through them properly....I do totally accept if the gun is right handed this can be a problem if you use it left handed. But it the sights work correctly on the right but not left and then correctly on the right again the sights WORK..you are simply not looking through them correctly. Mo

I already have one which is about 7 or 8 years old now. Fixed it several times but I think I'm due for a new one. Maybe the same again but I would appreciate your overall comments before I make a decision. Must fit directly on to the gun, I do not want to hand hold it. Not too enormous and not to heavy! Must also be bright as a button at 100 to 200 yards as it will be used with the rimmy and centrefire. Also want dimmer control and filters. Not too concerned about battery life as I have battery packs, but I want good light up to 200yards! Please don't say Logan does a good on

As you like from my point of view, and interesting poll results so far. BUT.... I have got to say...(and I'm well passed crawling up peoples backsides) this is one of the best sites I have seen technically! It is easy to use, and easy to navigate and easy on the eye. I was in IT for many years on the high end technical side and have some web design experience. Well done and congrates to thehuntinglife team, especially the site designers!!! Deker

The owner of one of my permissions only has one arm, yet he still charges around the estate on his quad with shotgun, and dog running behind! It is a sight to behold and he can still drive and shoot well...f*****g amazing watching him hold up and shoot a 12G!

I'd say Macnas has it pretty spot on. After trying loads of ammo over the years I now use CCI Velocitors 40gHP, 1435ft sec, 185ft lb and Magtech 40gHP subs, 1036ft sec, 98 ft lb, (sometimes Rem Yellow jackets)for hunting. American Eagle 5022 40g Solid, 1240ft sec, 137ft lb for target. All the ammo performs differently so you MUST check your zero and rise/drop/drift for each ammo. I find a 75 yard zero for velocitors gives me a 50 yard zero for the Magtech with no scope adjustment ....I don't adjust my scope for target work either because I know how to adjust the shot on the mildots

Thats a good price for that stuff, costs me about £60 per 100. I'm using Wolf 55gHP at the moment and whilst I accept and agree grouping is about 1" worse with this stuff at 200yards it costs me £18 per 100! Barnaul 62gFMJ is about an inch off at 200yards as well but that costs me £14-£16 per 100. Wolf is an American company but both their ammo and Barnaul are made in the same factory in Russia, both are true .223REM as well, and not 5.56 military. Fortunately they both still shoot well for me, I won an internal shooting club competition at Bisley last time out with the Barnaul, ev

I suspect that will simply come down to personal preference, but the 550 at 9.5lbs will weigh a ton by the time you get a scope and mounts on it, and a mod and a bipod and fill the magazine! You will certainly notice that on your shoulder by the time you have been walking around a few hours! More choice and cheaper ammo in the .223 as well!

Can't sit around talking anymore!!!

Waste of time, I'm soaking wet and cold, no sign of Charlie, 2 rabbits and 3 rats. Long time since I hit a rat with a 40g HP .22LR Sub, makes a very satisfying thump and does the job superbly. Saw 3 young Roe doe as I was leaving, is it me or have you noticed how big their ears seem to get in the Autumn??
