  1. Guys/Gals We all seem to be getting carried away with Sound moderators these days......me included...I have them on all my rifles, PCP air rifle, rimfires and centrefires. But the world seems to forget that whilst they are very useful and dramatically reduce the overal noice from my FAC PCP and are great with sub sonic .22LR noboby has found a way to stop the sonic crack. Supersonic ammo will appear quieter to the shooter as the moberator reduces the noise of the cartridge explosion but makes no difference at the point of delivery, ie down the road when the bullet (hopefully) hits it
  2. Thanks for the comments and advice, will be eagerly awaiting the new trap details from Snareman, shooting starts 08.00 on 7.11.07.....I'll keep you posted of progress in the days to come. Deker
  3. good going mate, there seems to be loads this year, the amount we seeing and having so far and yet we still see more when we go to the farms, problem is we rely on my pack to mark any trees and it is hard to spot the squirrels due to the amount of cover still, not done so well with the traps so far but will be putting some out soon, keep at them mate I have only been using this site a couple of months but I am pleased to note that people actually tend to speak the truth! Seldom do I notice wild claims........long may ity continue!!!!!!!! Deker
  4. Cheers, why didn't I think about him, I'll give him a shout! Deker
  5. They are a first class trap, but for setting in trees there are far less expensive options, if you get one of these nicked it's £40 down the drain, is it private or public woodland? Its very public, thats why I can't use ground traps or poison! I plan on using some Fenn 4 built into boxes (in trees) but I would be more than pleased to hear any other suggestions. Areas of the park will be closed to the public on a rolling basis for shooting and the traps are for backup and ongoing control as we only have a 5 day shooting option, the place is swarming with greys, as tame and cock
  6. I know very little about these, can anyone help me with their experiences please? I am specifically thinking about using them set in trees for the grey squirrel. They are not cheap and as I have never used them your views would be gratefully received before I invested in a few. Many thanks Deker

  8. Anyone got a few they no longer require. I could be in the market for between 10-20. Must be No4 not No6. Not bothered if they are genuine Fenn or copies but must be in serviceable condition! Cheers Deker

  12. You are of course absolutely correct - and the Red/Sika hybreds of course! Do you know I was out shooting Sat Night and the thought that I put buck down came to me as I was strolling through the woodland! Anyway ... next test.... Which breed/variety is Venison and which is Deer? Deker
  13. The Deer Act 1991 stipulates a minimum calibre and minimum muzzle energy (.240" and 1700 ft/lbs) for the lawful shooting of Deer in England and Wales. Scottish legislation is slightly different. For all practical purposes the minimum is usually accepted as being the .243 Winchester. As of 1 October 2007 all .22 centrefires can be used on Muntjac and CWD in England and Wales as long as they conform to a minimum of 1000ft lb, 50g and expanding. With regard the minimum .243 weight it is down to you as long as you keep within the law, 100g is most commonly used though and very effective!
  14. Is cloud cookoo land in Berkshire?
  15. Theres a fair few down Marshfeild, West kineton and littleton The question was BERKSHIRE! I know plenty of places I can find hare but I have not seen any in Berks and wondered if anyone else had! Deker
  16. I hear what you say, but first off I do not poach and second off I am sick of hearing ..."my mate saw one"..."I know someone who knows someone who has seen them" and in particular I am fed up with my game dealer telling me there are pleanty around and he wants some, when I keep insisting there are not! More than anything I am trying to find out if I am right; that there are none in Berkshire, (or only VERY, VERY few) so I obviously want 100% confirmed personal sightings! Deker
  17. Anything NORTH of Sheffield is near London, I hope you have sat nav or you could get lost finding the bathroom! Just for any foreigners living north of Watford, Berkshire is a county, its quite wide and thin and its just West of London......that's on the left....but I suppose it depends which way up you are holding your map book!! Oh yes....it looks like there are no Hares there either! Deker
  18. Hi A subject which has been discussed previously I'm sure but I could do with your pearls of wisdom please! Specifically, my new Tikka .223 Lite with stainless barrel (and very fine rifling), but generally all centrefires! Mr Tikka tells me NEVER scrub the barrel just swab it out; not been too much of a problem with breaking in the barrel and a few hunting trips and light use at Bisley. I have nevertheless, just spent what seems like an eternity cleaning it after about an 85 shot spree at Bisley. So question is.... What do/would you suggest as a bore solvent (remember I ca
  19. Ok help me out, most of my shooting is done in Berkshire with a hint of Oxon, Surrey, Hants and Wilts. My Game dealer keeps asking me for Hare; now I do a lot of shooting over a lot of Berkshire (not over all the county mind you, mainly the east) and I simply do not see Hare in Berkshire! Every time I talk to my game dealer he tells me X has a couple of Hare on his land up the road, or Y's land is full of them, but as yet nobody has produced any for him! Now, I fully expect there probably are some in the county, but can anyone tell me 100% where, not ....my mate saw one last week or
  20. I was thinking the very same!!! I'll meet with them as planned though and take it from there! Deker
  21. Help Please I have just had my local council call and they want me to help with their massive grey problem at one of their country parks. Problem, it's about 70 acres and about 60 of which is woodland. Now...I have always found shooting a good option especially spring and autumn when the canopy is poor, and trapping fairly unproductive. My problem here is this park is open to the public 24/7, dog walkers love it, the cats prowl at night, children play, assorted "hoodies" do their worst and courting couples do....well whatever they do! So traps will get nicked or destroyed, poison w
  22. 23. Help me then...how do I get in touch?? Cheers Deker Hi Deker,.good to see you are still 'up and at 'em'... I cannot speak for The Big Fish,..but as a Mole Trapper I can at least put you in the picture as regards how things work. Firstly,..IF your client/landowner is prepared to pay for a trapper,..there shouldn't be a problem. To successfully trap moles,.as opposed to using gas tablets, Phostoxin,.Talunex,.etc,...the operator will have to make several visits to the various sites. This is not going to be cheap... Personally,...I trap from Monday right through until 'pick u
