  1. Getting some good suggestions lads........should have said 2nd hand is OK........got about £150.00 to spend. Stallion I suspect a PCP with all the bits is a bit hopeful for £150 but you will find one or two CO2 and almost any full power springer should do the job on squirrels. They can be VERY hard to stop so good pellet placement is essential. Cheers Deker
  2. Probably....I have the FN19RS in FAC but if I was starting again today I would get the new stuff. More shots, better build, and newer technology etc...go and ask my mates here.............. falconowners.myfastforum.org Cheers Deker
  3. On the HMR the "Power" loss is nowhere near as much as you seem to think, but try and get it on a chrono to check exactly if you are concerned, it will depend on the barrel, the ammo and the moderator. As long as you have a decent mod and it is correctly fitted, it will help the relatively small amount of muzzle flip you get from the HMR and therefore it should be a tiny bit more accurate. It will have plenty of power to stop a fox at 100 yards (if you put it in the right place) even though many will argue it is not a tool for fox anyway. (See best calibre for fox pinned above) The HMR
  4. Thanks for that, I recon that the straw bales should absorb a fair bit of velocity and the slugs should ground well within my shooting range. At what distance have you zeroed your scope. On the safety side, and as regards backstops you really cannot be TOO safe, but the plans you have outlined for zeroing sub sonic ammo seem appropriate. A Winchester sub has plenty of power left to kill a rabbit at 200 yards. Problem is hitting them when you are out in the field; 200 yard subsonic quarry shots should not be considered with a .22LR. Most people will zero subs between about 50-7
  5. A good earth bank is always the best plan BUT as long as you are flat, even if it goes clean through everything it will ground long before 3/4 mile. Depends of the quality and dampmess of your chipboard, but even with subs it is likely to go through the chipboard. By the time you bring the zero in and put a couple close to each other it will definately go clean through the chipboard! Cheers Deker
  6. Fish "cut it out with the dremmel, using a fiber cutting disk on maximum speed" How did that go, was it easy or hard, those circular saw blades are usually made of pretty tuff stuff? Cheers Deker
  7. I'd like to know more about that Gamo at 1000ft sec as well. There are no tricks to squirrel shooting as far as I'm aware except shoot straight and in your range. There is no such thing as an average but most people will be happy with 5 or 6, it depends entirely where you are shooting and what you have to aim at...this was a very good site (or BAD, depends how you look at it).......and many people could have done this on this site...just happened to be me! gamo

According to Gamo it is meant to be 16J (12ft lb) But so is my lads RSV and on a good day it may do 10ft lb!
  9. For links to copies of the General licences covering each country go to the BASC website at www.basc.org.uk and click on the ‘Shooting’ tab and then click on ‘Pest and Predator Control’ in the drop down menu.
  10. Agree with all this but the recoil in some factory ammo is quite hard! Suggested by the Home Office as entry level for Boar. Cheers Deker
  11. Are these the Yellow Jacket 33g Copper Plated HP? If they are ...first off they are a good price..I pay £6.50 per 100 for these. They are around 1500ft sec and 165ft lb at the muzzle, I use them a lot in my CZ Silhouette, I like them, they work well, group quite well, and they cycle well! I also Use CCI Velocitors, 40g Copper Plated HP as well, 1435ft sec, 185ft lb, they arrive with a bigger thump, but grouping is not as good and they do not cycle so well in my CZ, but I still use them. Cheers i use the the cci velocitors they seem spot on .just thought i would try these se
  12. Fubar I'm speechless (and that doesn't happen very often) and truly impressed at the skills of anyone capable of doing this I hope it's not been to much of a nightmare for you. Many thanks Deker

  14. looks like a good start to the new land! The Bisley magnum is very heavy in a 12ft lb gun (I assume it is) but you seem to have the pellet arc sorted. You can always try other pellets but I don't think you are going to do much better, if you like heavy pellets. Regrettable though it is, you are never going to stop every animal with every shot, even Olympic target shooter don't get 100% every time. Depending how the Rabbit/squirrel present you could always try heart shots, particularly with the squirrel! Cheers Deker
  15. I would like to check it out but I cannot see anything...Help Please!!! Deker
  16. Some of you may find this useful, it is from the BASC website and lists the Animals and Birds that can be taken with an Air Rifle under the Open General Licence in ENGLAND. The Licence for Scotland, Wales and N Ireland tends to be very similar but I do not have copies so I cannot quote 100%. Please take particular note of the REASONS and the bold areas! Live quarry shooting Many people shoot live quarry, either on their own land or where they have permission. The species which you can shoot are limited by the law and by the effective power of an air rifle. All birds are pro
  17. My views tend to fall in line with Martin above but apparently I am quite fortunate having the Fox on my rimmy. As has already been said there has been lots of debate/dispute about fox calibre and much of it is pinned above, take a look. Cheers Deker
  18. I don't understand what you are getting at...do you want to buy some off me to practice on, or do you want me to give you some to practice on and you give them back to me to display? Deker
  19. OK Guys...I really don't want to be seen as putting the dampeners on this but there are certain practical issues here. It is probable this is relatively safe, but it does without doubt potentially present a risk, I'm assuming the primer and powder are still in place. In addition, how does the law work on metal detecting and finding things, you seem to be in possession of a live cartridge, if I had it in my posession but that calibre was not on my FAC I am breaking the law! If this goes back to 1944 as has been suggested, the 100 year rule does not apply, maybe it is covered under the
  20. Eggy This article is for 28g, we are talking 12g here. I think you had better read it all again anyway, page 19 Table 1 clearly shows the different density for different choke at different ranges! It does also say there are differences but not what people tend to expect, 28g remember! Choke sizes for 28 bore have less variation than 12 bore and therefore less effect. Chokes do work, although I do agree people can get a bit too wrapped up with them, this guy just wants to know what size his are! Cheers Deker
  21. John has it spot on with this.... I think it's important that you shoot with the borrowed gun and then lend yours on. This is because I believe you're using two seperate bits of law here. This is UK law so I don't think it changes for Scotland, but it might. A sgc holder can lend his or her gun to another sgc holder for up to 72 hours without notification, certificate amendment or anything. But not to a non sgc holder at all. The law also allows a SGC holder to allow an non SGC holder to shoot on their land uner their direct supervision and with their gun. To clarify other mat
  22. I'd agree with Donkey and Millet with minor differences/additions... I tend to fire only 3 shot groups and then rest/check target. Strange though it may sound zeroing is VERY exhausting, mentally and physically. You should be able to bring it in with just a few shots BUT, if you get up to 15-20 shots and are not quite there GIVE UP and continue the next day. You need serious support or be prone, but preferably both to zero! Check your pressures first if PCP and check scope, moderator ets is firmly attached before shooting. Also zero with the same pellets you intend to use in

    brad

Bit late now they have all gone (picture was about 6 weeks ago)....if I get any more decent bags of the squirrel I'll give you a shout.
  24. To all who I have talked to , bantered with , joked with and argued with , to those kind members who have helped me out, either with advice or sometimes at their own expense , I would like to wish you all, the very best of Christmases and good fortune in the new year . We may be radically divided in our opinions at times , but despite all that, you’re all good lads and lasses (well most of you Ho Ho Ho!!!) at heart who won’t hesitate to help someone out when they need it. Cheers Deker
  25. That sound interesting, must give it a try......My Venison burgers are very simple... Good venison meat...not the scraps, clear as much membrane as possible and mince rather than through a blender. Fresh Onion cut quite finely and egg..get stuck in with your hands mixing the lot...finally, shape onto greaseproof paper, cook fresh, or make in quantity and chuck the rest in the freezer. Easy simple and tasty! I like the sound of a few other ideas posted here so I will try a bit of variation. Cheers Deker
