FFS...ask the smart arse under which Law they are illegal!
-
We all want what we all want for various reasons, but there is commonly an alternative, there are plenty of scopes VASTLY cheaper than the Z6i and frankly, for the majority of shooters, JUST as useable! I hate the Sauer anyway, just a personal thing, they appear to work ok. Why don't you consider 2 or 3 Complete rifle setups, and go and do some more research on that possibility! Changing barrels and zeroing is a pain, and remember you ONLY have 1 rifle at any time, other options give you 3 rifles ready to go!
-
HW every time! The Twink works OK but what the **** is it all about, the size of a drainpipe, and have you seen the FAC Air rifle version, it's Massive! Don't know the BSA unit!
-
As long as you can see a bit further than the HMR can shoot and it holds zero, then that's it. Anything that starts 8x and goes upwards is TOO high for me, but scopes and mag and reticules get VERY personal. Plenty of choice for the HMR, actually a VAST choice up to £300, and absolutely no need to spend that much either, but if you can/want to, then why not! PS I'm guessing you already have a scope though as this goes back to April, what did you end up with?

Target work is a minefield and many go the serious custom route paying loads of money. For General field use there are not really any BAD ones, it's simply a matter of need and expectation. My .308 is a Rem 700 SPS Stainless, mine is out of the box with X-Mark pro trigger, I have simply had the barrel chopped by 3", it gives me 1" with 150g PRVI SP and that does for me.

Optional barrel changes are commonly just simply a Marketing extension of the manufacturing process these days. It may well work for some people BUT 1 rifle one setup is the quick simple and surefire way for most.

Over 3 years ago until todays reply! Someone has been trawling the history!

Yes I've shot those cone nosed crackers a few times, I think I've still got most of a box left in my cupboard somewhere? Anyway they are very loud, and not very accurate if compared to milder HV stuff like Winchester Lazer and Velocitor,(which are GOOD). But also in fairness they are no worse than Stingers, probably a bit better. My experience is that a good subsonic through a decent Rifle/Scope will kill anything .22 legal with ease, HV is a little bit more powerful but really not very much! The only time I would consider HV on a regular basis is if I had a semi-auto to get better cyclin

BRNO 22LR Barrel Shortening
Deker replied to wabbit slayer's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
You don't say what your budget is? The rifle you're buying is perfectly good as it is with the factory length barrel. Why spend money on cutting down a BRNO (and probably reducing it's sell on value). Look just use it as it is with the moderator that came with it, then if you have the cash and want to upgrade get something 'better' at a later date when YOU have some experience and are better prepared to make a choice. .22's are pretty unbreakable and generally very good, just try it and see? AndyF That makes a lot of sense, get some experience and then make some decisions! -
hi michael. you can only can have 1 at a time here as far as i know. How does that work? .22lr and .22WMR are very different animals, is it simply calibre, and what about .22CF?
-
Yep, I have heard this about Yorkshire, and here's the really daft part, I have .22lr, .17HMR and .22WMR ALL conditioned for FOX, so, if I received an invite to shoot in the area I could perfectly legally go round shooting them whilst a local shooting partner could not. Perhaps someone would like to invite me, AND the Chief Constable of Yorkshire and we can demonstrate they work! Now theres a thought!

Interesting...good to see Winchester doing well. It all comes down to what you/your gun favours. Eley always get a shout for their accuracy, but I have never found them anything special and they do NOT expand well in my experience. Put it in the right place and a deceased bunny just the same. I use Magtech 40g HP Subs, massive HP and expand brilliantly, these commonly get a bad press, I don't know why, they have been fine in my CZ forever...the first is exceptional, and the second is normal. 60yards!

Crumbs, this goes round...there is NOTHING illegal about shooting a fox with a .22lr. You may have some issue with the terms of your FAC though. Lets be realistic, there is NOTHING illegal about shooting a fox with ANYTHING as long as it is not seen to cause unnecessary suffering! If you got hauled off to court the charge would be causing unnecessary suffering/cruelty,..not he used an X Y or Z calibre which is illegal!
-
Not if you have the ANY OTHER LAWFUL QUARRY condition!
-
I never found anything to be very good in HV for the .22lr, very possibly the best overall performer in mine were the Remington Yellow Jacket HP, flew fast, hit pretty hard and were reasonably accurate, but the .22lr excels as a Sub Sonic tool, if you want HV you will need to try a few and see what works best for you. Better still keep the .22lr for subs, and get something in addition with a bit more grunt if you feel you need it! A fox will go down easily with the right head or heart shot with a decent Sub Sonic round, I use Magtech and they work very well in mine, a massive HP which

If you need to shoot foxes then you need the right tool for the job and a .22lr isn't the right tool for the job. Discuss the issues with your FEO and see what come from the conversation. Ask about a .22WMR or .22H as a first step. John What job would that be then? Chill out on the sweeping generalisations because that statement in wrong! A .22lr IS 100% the tool for many jobs I have done. This one for example! Which part of that says....a .22lr isn't the right tool for the job?
-
Thames Valley like to use the word FOX or Other lawful Quarry. Vermin is not fox in their book. Simple fact is you are still likely to get different responses from FEO to FEO in the same region, and some may accept vermin as fox. ALL my rimfires were conditioned for FOX in Thames Valley until a variation or two back when the any other lawful quarry condition replaced it. People suggest conditions like... Close fox, occasional fox, etc, they are undefinable and unenforceable, and can someone please scan this part of their FAC and show me a condition that dumb! Cheers

PM sent. You have email!

There isn't a best centrefire for foxes, as someone else suggested. I have efficiently removed foxes with all my current tools, .22lr, HMR, .22WMR, .223, .243, etc etc (and a few I no longer have). There is only the right tool for the job in the right hands in any given situation!

363 rounds of Greek made and 96 rounds of RG. Surplus to requirements as my club no longer runs any .303. Cheers

I think you know fully well if that is in very good condition it is a steal! I have one in very good condition and would not think of parting with it to anyone at that price!
-
Each to there own and everyone favours something over another but I never do understand statements as above.... Just which bit is .... ....A lot better then my Cz Does it work better, is it more reliable, does it feed better, is it more accurate, etc, just what is a LOT better? Cheers. ATB!

got my rebarreled m595 back at last in 17 rem fireball
Deker replied to jamie g's topic in Reloading and Gun Maintenance
Yes..that's taking the gun under the pillow to extremes! I'll be interested to hear how you get on with it, just what is it you had in mind for this calibre? ATB! -
Oh 'Muppet' as though an Springer air rifle trigger would fit in a bolt action CZ rimfire, ARE YOU MAD, NO NO NO, get real. I hope you don't fix your car? (No you probably don't,which clearly is just as well). The Rimfire Magic 'Brooks Trigger Kit' is what you need, but as you clearly have not the slightest idea regarding Engineering or Technology get someone who does to do the job! Ha ha...go for it. There are at least 3 kits available for the CZ, search the web again, probably the cheapest and best upgrade available for any rifle!

What cleaning rod for the .17HMR?
Deker replied to LordGamebore's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
The only Dewey I have is for my HMR, but it is without doubt the best of my rods, also the most expensive of course!
