Well I didn't know that I thought they'd at least have to go to college for a few years. It's bad that anyone can get this and people will then pay good money for a half assed job

Views on getting a pup on summer bunnys
Saltmoon replied to Saltmoon's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
He will be my first running dog pup I got my old bullx at 18months so got right on with it with him and made mistakes and I'm sure I will with this one just want to give him the best start I can early mornings would be a good idea -
Not read every comment but for me I hate cherry pickers and such all the jerking round and being boomed out way over freaks me out no end. I'll happily go up any ladder any size on any roof no problem but off a machine that I know is safer I hate being there everything I do is slow so I don't make it jerk to much

And I don't have a older dog to show him what's what and I don't have ferrets to get him some to pin in nets. I will be going out on my tod aswell as don' really know anyone round my way with running dogs -
Right I know this will probably kick up a stink but I've a pup 10month old now and want him knowing what his job is before next season so I am planning on taking him out a few times during the summer months so come next season he's not totally green. I'm not talking 3-4 times a week maybe once a week or once every 2 weeks. What have you lads done when you've had pups that could start doing a bit in the summer? Do you just wait and enter the season with a green dog or do a bit with them in the summer?

And as for the spayed shite that's just a theory could have been a number of things. Brakes me all these people saying there animal behaviourists and all that .... Maybe so but if an animal comes from a troubled past unless you have alot of experience with troubled dogs your average animal behaviorist is out of their depth in my opinion

Mate of mine old man took a dog on bought from Cornwall somewhere was massive type was brilliant for about 4 weeks then almost over night turned into a complete savage! They sent it away with one of there pals who was a police dog handler and trainer for around 3 weeks but he couldn't do out with the dog they ended up putting it down before something like that happened. It had to have a mussel on at all times apart from eating they had to keep it in there kitchen untill my pals dad got home each day. You never know what your really taking on when you get a older dog unless you know who your ge

Maybe when/if you want over barbed wire chuck your coat over a bit of it and get the dog jumping there so if it don't make it the thing won't get cut up.
-
Almost as good as the caged beast
-
You'd be better chucking the dummy over the fence of through it and see what he makes of it he will either stand there and look at you or go for but then you'l sort of know what to expect . Well that in my mind would work but I could be wrong there's alot of guys on here that would know more

Bloody lucky my old bullx sire broke his neck hitting a plough in some long grass. Atb

I try to keep away from it myself I don't train to jump either of sooner lift a dog over it myself. But as for when the dog is slipped it's luck that's my view my old bullx went into wire fences a few times but he learnt to slow up near the edge of fields

There are normally Facebook groups that advertise or Google lure coursing in your area. Sounds like he gets plenty of exercise but if he's not fully developed yet then when he runs hard he could end up with injurys. As for the chop I'm against it unless there is a medical problem or similar. The shows will be starting soon now the season is over. Hope this helps abit atb
