  1. I think that’s more to do with the men than the dogs my friend. Plenty saluki xs getting chucked out of motors to sadly
  2. Blast from the past there charts! That kennel produced some very handy dogs then vanished
  3. Aye I think I’ve seen them but thought they were Lurcher to Lurcher bred but must have been wrong. I remember the old heartbreak fell dogs ? They seemed to be proper vermin dogs. Mostly got for fox. Most likely it’s just the rise of the Beddy x as the rich folks lap pets and arrival of the bull blood which helped push them off the map. If I wanted a Beddy type now I’d get a Lurcher x Lurcher bred animal probably with some collie like yours or bull
  4. You knew of a first x Beddy whip that would kill hares ? And you reckon a bull grey can’t ? ?
  5. Also, practically speaking it has increased possibilities no end
  6. The last lad with A Beddy grey first x on here was fence hopper so that shows how few there have been! How many Beddy grey first or second x you come across ? Not Lurchers with some Beddy blood ?
  7. I don’t quite know how they were meant to be worked on otters and badger if they couldn’t get to ground ? Be a bit of a difficult one otherwise. And as far as I was aware most terriers were bred to go to ground. I think a lot of books probably talk about rabbiting abs stuff because realistically they don’t like saying they dug badgers with them historically. Same as if you read the history of the sausage dog ? not many folk mention digging pigs ?
  8. Cos you’re not telling me those ones abound would stick to ground on a badger. And the first dog labelled a bedjngton terrier was worked on badger and otter. Them ones above wouldn’t know what to do with a hole ?
  9. The first Beddy show class was in 1870, and they were dying them to fit ‘breed standard’ in them days ? so quite likely a lot of the photos you see even quite old ones were non workers
  10. So the modern ones not have a bunch of whippet blood in them to give the daft roach back for the show ring. I’m sure that’s what I read. The little light ones you see with the fluffy heads abs roach back are nowt like the old photos of beddys you see which were earth dogs
  11. Let’s be honest most folk keeping these small types are running rabbits in small fields, rough ground and around cover. They are not coursing hares on the fens. If speed abs acceleration was the number one thing - they would just keep a pure whippet. However if they want a terrier x then they are losing a chunk of that speed and acceleration whatever they choose and I’d say between any of the terrier xs it’s probably a marginal difference. Most folk go for a Beddy x whippet as they are available, popular, “look like old school green grass Lurchers”, etc. I see more Beddy whips with r
  12. Bedington terriers were originally bred as earth dogs unless I’m very much mistaken ........
  13. Unnecessary? Lots of folk probably said that about the bull and the saluki. If it was all about speed, we’d all use greyhounds and whippets.
  14. Don’t take this the wrong way but I think most of that is based on theory not practice. Most pure beds I see would shit themselves at a big rabbit ? go and have a look at the terrier and the bushing section and see how many working beds you can find. All of the good old Beddy x whips and greys from distant years ago which are held up as great dogs, would have been bred out of beds that worked to ground. So your point re pats being earth dogs is a moot point to an extent. I could show you a pat dog that will stay for 12 hours, is taller than most beddys, natural retriever, great nose,
  15. Ok so here is a question ? What makes a 17-18” Beddy x whip, a more capable runner with a wider quarry available to it, than a pat x or bull x or the same size?
  16. I don’t really like my bushers yipping too much ......
  17. If a Beddy x whippet was chasing a fox and that fox went to ground and said Beddy x whippet could fit after it - I’d be questioning why it didn’t wedge itself in ? plenty of Beddy x drop to ground and a hell of a lot of them yip in cover or when chasing. I don’t think there is any more chance of any of that happening with a pat x whippet and ultimately if you keep little 20” or below terrier xs then stuff like yippibg and dropping in, is always on the cards. They aren’t being kept as flat out runners, for lamping etc. Most lads are using them as little vermin dogs around cover, barns, holes et
  18. I’m struggling to see how folk find it such a hard concept ? lots of folk keep Beddy x whip types. Bred out of a whippet and a terrier that maybe once looked at a bush and mouthed a rabbit. Alternatively they could breed the same size and type Lurcher out of a terrier that would do 12 hours to ground getting its head chewed in the dark against a much bigger quarry without giving an inch and then once out be racing for more despite looking like it’s gone ten rounds with a meat mincer ........ which realistically is going to produce the more driven, harder little dog. And I know of plenty of pat
  19. Some folk only need or want a small terrier based runner. That’s what makes them happy and does the job they want. It’s that simple. What folk are trying to say is - that a pat of the right type would do a better job or producing said runner of said type, than a modern Beddy. The ones bred out of modern Beddy that made good little dogs, the Beddy probably had a load of pat in it anyhow . can we dispense with the laughing at each other and running each other dogs down ? Or is that just now this places vibe?
  20. I think a good pat x whippet bred the right way would make a lot of Beddy x whippets look like daft wee lap dogs ....
  21. A generation obsessed with its rights who forgot that with rights come responsibilities.......
  22. Makes me ? reminds me of kids at school. Socks stop picking your nose, but miss Boris picked his nose. You’re happy to go abs get shot and and kill folk for the G7 but not where a disposable mask in a shop.
  23. Mine has been an absolute pleasure to keep so far. Very loyal and biddable, taught himself to jump and clears anything he fancies, has retrieved what he’s caught so far. Long way to go, and we will see what he has in him, but he runs with a style that is fantastic to watch and has endless stamina. Although he looks racey, he is strongly built and has a head like a brick ?
  24. I enjoy a bbq just fine and don’t have to wear a mask ? I don’t quite understand mate ? It’s a self choice thing out of public places ? Like if my mates come over for a bbq we don’t wear masks, but would in public? If boris Johnson went into Tesco’s he’s probably wear a mask.
