Jesus you’re hard work ? Not everyone is trying to argue that their dogs it chosen breed is best at everything. Its way to nice a day to sit here going round in circles with you. And a totally pointless exercise as you are always right anyway. Im going to have a nice cold beer and then take the dogs for a walk with the mrs. -

Oh the irony ? you’ve got the highest number of posts on most threads ? mostly about Salukis. Between you and Carl you’re pretty much single handed keeping the site going ? “The bull x lads” ? give your head a shake most of the folk you’re talking to don’t own bull x. -

So you started to go out at 12 in 1998, and you you “was at em most night in the 90s” and those couple of years pre pubescent you went out with other lads and their dogs, makes you an expert on fixing. Just curious like ? -

I can’t answer that one. But I’ve seen a few whippets that loved a fox abs were indulged, they didn’t have much palate on nasal cavity left and sounded like darth Vader. Head structure, size, jaw power etc all comes into play. Yer most dogs will eventually kill a fox if they on its throat but a lot of foxes aren’t grabbed by the throat and to hold down and dispatch an angry winter dog fox when you’re only whippet weight isn’t always easy. -

Serious question, have you caught abs killed a lot of foxes with dogs ? Not a dig, just curious. Yer or expect my but dog to kill it quickly with no fuss, that’s pretty much the point. I want an efficient catch and dispatch dog, not to stand there like a goon watching a dog roll about with them. But having killed quite a few, they don’t all do easy and can give even a big dog a bit of stick, especially if the dog is tired / had a couple already that night. Just like hares there is a fair bit of variance in them, all decent fox dogs should kill any quick but a lot of do -

Bigger dogs also see further abs run faster / cover ground better, so depends on ground you hunt and how you hunt etc -

It’s like them folk we all know, who there’s no point arguing with it giving an opinion to, because they are always right and just end up giving you a headache, so you just nod and make agreeing noises while looking for an escape route. Because everyone does this, those kind of people go about, thinking they are always right ? -

So let me get this right ? all of the dedicated foxing lads are wrong abs should be running either saluki xs or whippet xs ? And the only reason they run bull xs is because they are stupid or want to look hard? ? -

What a surprise, it’s ended up another thread about how amazing Salukis are, at everything! -

Agree with most of what’s been said and small terrier xs bred out of the right stuff, should be capable, even if it’s a bit messy and emotional. I’ve two terriers here that are the size of hamsters ? and they will stick to a fox above ground (mainly in cover) but it’s no very pretty ? I think the problem for a lot of Beddy x whips today is the whippet is by far the harder and more ballsy dog in the breeding. -

Oh man, i can’t f*cking breathe ? -
I was more thinking other stuff. But you know what I mean, not just the numbers of game, but certain ground and certain pockets of animals make for easier catching.
-
I agree entirely!

This is a very good point. I think it’s true of all areas of dog work. There are some dogs who have made a rep, have put a lot of stuff away but the men have always travelled to put things in the dogs favour. Which is fair enough, but bags don’t tell the whole tale. A dog that catches the stuff other dogs wouldn’t is more impressive.

We’ve covered this mate and don’t need to get into it again ? I’m happy with my dogs and there are a very small number of things which push my buttons ? and you managed to find one of them ? I might show you a bull x, although I think you might claim he’s a saluki x, one day next winter. He’s ok.

Here’s a random question for you, seeing as the dogs used for coursing have been improved on over the years and are now assuredly at their current peak? And hopefully getting better each generation ? Has the hare got the same ? Are hares better now than they were 40 years ago ? Would the stars of the past struggle with modern hares ? How much does a quarry adapt and improve ?

Got more staying power than his dog does the magical mr mchull.
