  1. How many bitches he been put to / going to?
  2. Never actually shot a fox in my life mate. And only on the very rare occasion had a problem with a vixen and cubs with the lambs. And if you’re clever you can get them gone without killing them. Like I said, hammer them till before they breed and as soon as we start seeing bellied up vixens, give it a rest till august. Anything you see then is old enough to stand on its own two feet. I think it’s called countryside management. Most of these lads with guns don’t even get out the truck so can’t get to a lot of them in winter. We dig, bush, lamp, etc etc.
  3. That’s it mate. If you crack on from harvest to start of lambing, you can leave them alone to breed. Every animal deserves its chance.
  4. We live in the land of the big shoot. Everything is in corn when the vixens drop, and when the pheasants come in. We don’t as a rule shoot any foxes until about August. When I say we I mean the keepers on our places. If you do a good enough job, you don’t have a problem. August onwards once the birds are out it’s open season. That’s just life. But if you have a problem with foxes in your pens you’re a poor keeper. And if you hammer them all winter with every method, there aren’t too many to be a problem in summer.
  5. Skilful don’t like no fox shooting
  6. Yep ? only thing we are short of is foxes after Xmas. They get harder to find. But my mate has a half decent bushing pack ?
  7. Fair point ? But in all honestly, I’ve got a block of about 8000 acres of perm (split into four blocks), which gives me enough to go at that we can be out a lot when the weather is good, always have a good night and lots of sport and some great catches, and never run out of stuff to go at. My friends love coming to visit. It’s a nice problem to have ?
  8. Mate I have game coming out of my ears. Right now there are fawns all over the shop, from my garden hedge onwards. They are literally in every bit of cover, hedge, copse, bush etc. Also over run with hares. So an off lead walk turns in five to ten mins into a fawn massacre or a run on a few hares one after another till the dog is cooked and collapsed it smashed its feet and joints to bits. Oh and a couple of days ago I had to push to badgers out the road who were having a wrestle on a three way road junction in the the village, broad day light.
  9. Very fast and racey and with a desire to catch everything ? I’ve got one line of collies who are primarily used as catch dogs.
  10. I can barely let any of mine off the lead at the moment, so if I’m honest they get to prat about in the garden, a bit of a lead walk up the road for an hour in the evenings, and if they are lucky I drive them to somewhere they can have a mess about off lead and hunt a few rabbits. Was different when I lived back home, we’d spend early mornings and evenings mooching about free running and hunting up. No chance of that here sadly!
  11. Not a x, but here’s a collie bitch I bred 18 months ago, the owner called by to see me today. 3/4 welsh, 1/4 border. Good type to breed a littler of Lurchers off.
  12. Dug one with a snare round it’s neck this winter, poor b*****d.
  13. Me and him are saluki buddies don’t sweat it.
  14. Hang on .... it’s mchulls turn to use the laptop after school ?
  15. I was the teacher you tit ? what am I pretending to be oh great white hunter ? Do enlighten me ?
  16. He is, but only when Gospel isn’t signed in ? and vice versa ?
