A bad workman blames his or her tools, I've never had a problem with recall or obedience of Salukis or crossbreeds. Most Salukis go through a rebellious stage between eight-twelve months old and can Carry on until nearly two. A competent dog person would know this and then make allowances, sadly some people will never learn and keep bad mouthing certain crosses because they don't have the common sense or patience. If you are patient you can get the best from any dog, but more importantly is getting the right dog for the land you work, there's no point having a little whippet cross if you a

Paul Sullivan Collars Or Kcb Leather?
Saluki71 replied to Lurcherdog96's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
Hidesandcollars.co.uk, these aren't cheap but they are beautifully crafted from the finest leathers. -
I can't see much of a problem at 8 months, it's still a puppy, unless it's got a skeletal injury.
-
Nice dog gl, looks, brains and very racy, should have some fun next season.

Beautiful pups, you can tell they are being reared properly and at no expense spared I bet. I don't think I could cull any puppies even if one was deformed, I would have to get the vet to do it me thinks. Also it's nice to see someone comment saying it could be two-three years before they are mature, too many idiots get rid of good dogs to young because they aren't catching at ten months old. That's their loss and probably don't deserve a good dog in the first place.

Looks a lovely pup and an intelligent head to boot. Good luck with her.

Labour Are Alledgedly Against The Countryside
Saluki71 replied to Saluki71's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
Exactly it's so contradictory because they are set out in different subsections, if it's all in one section and not paraphrased then there is no way around it, but laws are set out to be contentious so they can be challenged by the people. Hopefully the dreaded and discriminatory hunting act will be a thing of the past should Mrs may get a good majority. On a different and sadder note I've just read a story in the mail online that two weeks after the I.R.A bombed Manchester a few years ago Jeremy Corbin hosted a get together for the provisional I.R.A in London at his then office, where they -

Hunting act Schedule 1 of exempt hunting Hunting a wild mammal is exempt if the conditions of this paragraph are satisfied: The first condition is that it is undertaken for the purpose of (1) preventing serious damage to crops (ii) to wild birds and livestock Subsection B Obtaining meat to be used for animal or human consumption as long as it is not classed as a field trail, other than a coursing event, i.e. Two dogs or less. There are more sections but I didn't see the need to write it all as it's not relevant to this particular reply. The hunting act is so open to interpretation -
Labour Are Alledgedly Against The Countryside

It's simple if the conservatives get a big majority then the hunting ban will be repealed. I know it's not great for everyone but surely having freedom to hunt without fear of arrest is a basic human right. Incidentally I've just looked at the hunting act and noted that you can chase an hare with a dog if you intend to eat the said hare. -
My daughter has just come back from an in-house Labour Party meeting and I'm sad to say that should they win a majority then pheasant shooting and grouse shooting will be made illegal and the hunting act will be strengthened so as to make it impossible to hunt as rabbits will become part of the act. One look at the labour front bench should make us all worry, most of them are either on the board of the league against cruel sports or other animal rights organisations. Labours defra minister is a director of lacs and even wants meat farming to be illegal. Obviously labour don't recognise democ

Plaster the pics all over social media and hope you make it to hot to handle, the only problem with that is the low life slugs who took them will probably dump them somewhere. These people are vile bottom feeding scum and should be used as human guinea pigs for cures for Ebola.

Bull greyhounds are good for foxes but they seem to me to get marked up quite a lot, I've never owned a dog with bull in so I'm only making an observation from the dogs I've seen at shows. Please don't make absurd comments about collie greyhounds they make some of the best lurchers in the right hands and like my dad always says it says more about the person who can't train them than it does about the dog. Personally I would have thought the coursing best dog for deer would be the deerhound and the best dog for the big land would be a saluki or a saluki hybrid. In the end the best dog on one

The tories only need a majority of just over 50 so the chief whip can make them vote to overturn the ban. Let's not forget though that if it wasn't for the countryside alliance we would still be coursing and hunting under license, it's why I withdrew support from them, they only want fox hunting back.

Questions I Asked Countryside Alliance Today.
Saluki71 replied to dog man's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
The countryside alliance do nothing for the lurcher man, they even put a motion forward that They would support a ban on coursing if fox hunting stayed legal. How often do you see coursing articles in the countrymans as oppose to hunts gathering who are obviously going hunting? Oh, I was present at that meeting and couldn't believe what I was hearing. After all if the countryside alliance had accepted the labour party's licensing of hunting everybody would still be hunting now without fear of persecution. -
I'm hoping someone on here can help me out, my bitch Tilly will be due to come in season about April and I'm looking to get her mated, the dog must be a good producer and been a good dog in the field. Tilly is bred from splodge, she was a absolute top class bitch on field and fen. She suffered a career ending injury when only two and a half years old and it's taken me five years to get her leg strong enough to carry a litter of pups. She had electric speed but could stay if she needed too. Normally I would probably have found her a good home but she was so good I just have to have a puppy off

If you don't want to get your dog shot then get permission, I spent years building my permission up, making contacts and generally going out of my way and what bothers me the most is when you drive for an hour to your land and some asshole is coming off it in a transit or old banger and if you confront them you just get a load of foul uneducated language, two years ago I nearly lost some really good land because I'd tried to help someone out who didn't have any and all I got in return was a phone call from the farmer a week later telling me that the guy had come back with half a dozen other bl

My mate has a really good dog who is off Dave dickensons max. If you pm me I will give you more details. I have a bitch off his line and they have stamina and they are pacy.

Salukis have been clocked at over 40 mph, the way they run is deceptive, people presume they're slow but I can assure you they're not. I've seen greyhounds that are slow compared to other greyhounds and so comparing a pedigree saluki with a crossbred lurcher that has predominantly greyhound blood is unfair, it's really hard to judge the speed of any dog when it's running an hare or rabbit, especially when the dog could be half a mile away.
-
What you really want is a fast dog that can run slow, that's what dear old don southerd used to say to me.

I had the rspca round right before Christmas, I have my dogs kennelled at the bottom of my garden, some do gooder reported me because the dogs were outside, anyway when they first appeared I was out and my 18 year old daughter was in and she phoned me to say two big burly type bailiff characters were peering through the window and scaring her, they put a card through the letterbox saying it was the rspca and to ring this number, I rang the number and the lady on the other end was very polite but I told her in no uncertain terms never to send anyone like that to my house again and that they sca

Not on the fens with fair law, about thirty years ago a friend of my dads had a 3/4 whippet 1/4 greyhound and that would kill hare after hare when slipped under feet, if that hare managed two bends then the dog wouldn't catch it as long as it had a hole in its derrière. The thing I and my dad like most is watching lurchers hunting about and picking up a scent and following it until something jumps up, there is no better feeling than an hare rising from its seat and watching your lurcher tied to it like a piece of string. Yes I did hear about dons dog against Annie as don was a very good frie

On that day it was and I only saw it run once but I examined her carefully and couldn't see anything wrong, that's not to say there wasn't and I've watched the Salukis at swaffan and Newmarket and the courses went on for ages with only a very low catch rate, but Tony griffiths saluki shady was far better than Annie in my opinion.
-
A lot of pure Salukis did get entered for the forley when running in the qualifying rounds but didn't get through, of the ones that did only a couple made it to the final. As for the deerhound cross, that can't even come close to a saluki for coursing, the clue is in the dogs name 'DEERHOUND'. As I said before I have a saluki and crossbreeds so I don't have tunnel vision but in my humble opinion a line bred saluki greyhound would out perform a pedigree every time. I once went out with Paul sagar after he eulogised about Annie telling me she was the best coursing dog in the country and that s

I have a pure saluki and she will take all quarry, I also have line bred saluki/greyhounds one of which was absolutely top class, I don't think that many dogs would be as good as her saluki or not, I'm a big admirer of Salukis but how many have won the forley cup and plenty have been entered. Just because one person doesn't like a particular breed it doesn't mean you should call them, variety is the spice of life and let's just enjoy our own dogs, after all we should run our dogs for ourselves and not others. Incidentally has anyone any experience with Picardy lurchers, I would be interest
