  1. Hi all, does anyone know if there is a lurcher bitch about 6 months to 4 years old, we’ve just lost one of our dogs and her sister is on her own, a loving home for life awaits. Preferably we would want a Norfolk type but a rough coated collie cross lurcher would be fine, it has to be a bitch though. Thanks in advance.
  2. I’ve been coursing 35 years and have overseen numerous forley cups and I have had the privilege to see some of the finest dogs ever to run and I’ve been very lucky to own one myself, so i do have experience and I stand by my original quote, it seems to me that you’ve already decided on the pups fate, I also know of other dogs from this litter that are doing fine. Also just because one parent hasn’t run that doesn’t mean the offspring will be rubbish, some of the best brood bitches and mares never saw a field or racecourse. I will keep you all posted on my pups progress as I’m pretty sure
  3. Why would you only give a 15 month old pup until the end of the season, this year should be about playing and learning, I have one of these pups and he’s great and I’m really looking forward to next season, you’re running an immature dog on quarry that is starting to get into top gear and how can your dog be fit if it’s been off injured for a couple of weeks, I certainly wouldn’t be writing a dog off after one season.
  4. Always feed raw, I use just natural complete minces, they are really chunky unlike a lot of others which are too much like paste and also feed wings and carcasses. Also I never understand why people feed their dogs and don’t watch until they have finished and then accidents won’t happen.
  5. Maybe the Dorset blue is the one, a friend of mine bought two lurchers from a guy in Beverly a few years ago and it’s supposedly in the breeding. Thanks for the information.
  6. I’m looking for information about the Suffolk blue dog, I don’t know if this is what the locals called it or if it’s an extinct breed. Many info would be greatly appreciated.
  7. Dont work the dog too much when just out of season it can cause problems because of the build up of hormones and fatty tissue, but Im sure you know that. Atb
  8. I have one off pp and he's doing great, he was boxing my other dogs when he was six months old, I've got high hopes for him next season, this season will be a play and learning curve for him.
  9. I've never had a problem with recall with pures or crosses, it depends on the person training or as I say with a saluki how much patience one has because that's what one needs with any animal and sadly some people want perfection without putting any time in.
  10. Hares never stop amazing me and the BBC showing a hare being coursed, never. Ha ha
  11. Mine are fed a raw complete diet and I would never feed a kibble again, most are made in the same factory and just put in different bags. A very good friend of mine was a director at a very large kibble manufacturer and told me horror stories about what went into it, rancid meat and rotten veg and then heated to 1500 degrees and then they add vitamins later and that was a £45 bag of dog food. No thanks
  12. Take a leaf out of the Americans book and f***ing shoot the b*****ds if they try and break in or set a booby trap and cripple them. If only eh. Maybe I'm going over the top but those sort of people don't respond to cautions. They are out and out sewage scum.
  13. I saw it online on the news channel, I think the story was originally in the sun, but search online and you will find it.
  14. I wonder how many of those morons who passed about a baby dolphin that had been separated from his mother to take pictures until it died would be the first to say hunting was cruel. Just a thought.
  15. A couple of years ago I was doing some work with the hare preservation society and was amazed to find out that a hare cannot get up to top speed until its run at least eighty yards and that's with no pressure so distance certainly makes a difference and in my experience only good well conditioned dogs will catch when given proper law and I mean in Dec Jan and Feb, not in august and September.
  16. I remember a few years ago asking 4 so called top dog men to mark a hundred yards on a field, the one who got the nearest was still only 60 yards, so all those hundred yard slips suddenly became 60, I used to play a lot of golf and can pretty much guarantee 100 yards every time, it's an easy pitching wedge. I agree with db if the dog can see it and it's on the right land then I'll slip it, I've no time for people who slip under their feet and then boast they've got a champion. Oh and obviously my dog will be fit.
  17. I just wonder how many hares are actually given a hundred yards or more in matches because most of the dvds I've seen the hare is lucky if it gets twenty yards, I saw one DVD in which jimmy ford slipped a dog he'd just paid thousands for on an hare which hadn't been given ten yards never mind a hundred and that was the same with most of the so called top guys. They might as well have a greyhound/whippet and my real pet hate is people running out of season, chasing milky does, it makes me sick and my blood boil. Sorry for the rant but in my view it's not on unless the farmer asks you too an
  18. In my opinion a really good dog will catch on any land be it small meadows with fences to big fenland, soft ground and heavy and big flat dry greens. Some of the so called coursing dogs couldn't catch a rabbit on small fields or jump a fence. I for one will always prefer a dog that gets up to the hare and work it properly, like it's tied to the hare by a piece of string, not one that stays ten yards behind it and runs it to a standstill. That's only my opinion though. Atb.
  19. If this has been covered before I apologise, I haven't been on here for long. Which is the best coursing dog you've ever had the pleasure to see? also do you prefer dogs that box the hare or ones that look like they are tied to the hare like on a piece of string. I would be interested to read your views.
  20. I hope that doesn't go on in uk, exactly how not to do it, it's no wonder the antis have the upper hand persuading ministers to ban hunting with hounds.
  21. Try and stay away from kibble and feed little and often, raw food is best as cooking takes out vital vitamins. My puppy's would get top quality beef, lamb chicken and turkey all minced very finely and you can make it more coarse as they get older, 7-8% of their body weight is a good starting point as you don't want to over feed them and have problems with bloating.
  22. Lovely pup there micheala, just take your time with the training and reward him when he gets it right. All the best with her.
  23. The rspca have absolutely no chance of gaining any powers whatsoever, further more I believe that when the queen abdicates prince William and harry say they won't approve the royal warrant. Incidentally labour under corbyn would grant them the power to enter and remove your dogs without the police being present.
  24. They only run their dogs in the summer because they can't catch in the winter. As for driving the land wouldn't it be great if you could attach a laser to a tree and it automatically spotted scum and just vapourrised them leaving no trace what so ever.
