Free lining the prawn take a little getting use to, having to play around with the weights but once you’ve mastered it ? the salmon are like kids in a sweet shop. I have also another rig I use if the waters up, a twisted blood loop with a bouncing Betty on the bottom. The hook is directly on the end of the loop, the prawn is presented naturally in the water and the whole setup fish itself just lob it in and take up the slack line and keep a high rod tip. The only draw back it the salmon is able to throw the hook why I don’t know ?

Most tubes are slower than flat bands. Used orange dub dub for years and is my go to setup for 1/2” steel or .44cal leads if shooting heavier ammo need to go for green dub dub. Gamekeeper John has a video on YouTube testing orange dub dub and 9.5mm steel with speeds near 300 FPS. Advantages of orange dub dub is fairly light draw weight and long life span. I have a setup which is well over 2years old with no signs of splits

Which catapult for a beginner?
Devon Minnow replied to jas27's topic in Catapult & Slingshot Hunting
You will have to contract WASP to find out what bands you can use on the Uniphoxx. As for Balls of Steel just Google it, he's also on Facebook and I think WASP has a link too -

Yes it's a good starting point for target shooting only. You will need to practice and be able to hit a 50mm or small target at say 20m say 8 or 9 times out of 10 before you even think about hunting with a slingshot. I wouldn't advocate 8mms steel for hunting far to small. I would recommend 12.7mms steel or .44cal lead. I know some people will say 9.5mms steel good enough but it's boarder line. Slingshot hunting all about blunt force tremor to kill the animal (bigger the ammo the better). As for the elastic this will have to be up grades to .7 or .8 to shot either .44cal lead or 12.7mms steel -
This 3/4 grown rabbit was shot at 30 paces with 8mm steel and 2040-1632 cocktail band it can be done but you have to be very accurate. I don’t advocate the use of 8mm steel in a hunting situation in my opinion it should only be used for target shooting. As for 8mm lead it is slightly lighter than a 9.5mm steel bearing (49 grains as to 54 grains) for me the jury is still out. For hunting in my opinion.44cal lead or 1/2”steel

Most waters you can't use the prawn before 16 June. For me it has to be the prawn. Forget float fishing it doesn't present the prawn very well. Either freeline the prawn or a drop shot rig. My setup is 10-60gems 10 foot spinning rod, 30lb braid main line 15lb floro carbon leader, size 1 or 1/0 Viking uptide hooks and the smallest prawn I can get red or purple (purplewiskers do good prawn and excellent service). And some split shot sg size. With these 2 setups I have never lose a fish in 5 years the biggest been 22lb hen fish last year, and I am talk landing over 50 fish. I fish fast and slow w

I agree with Greyman been using Orange dub dub for years. Try loads of different setup but always return to Orange dub dub for my hunting setup it fast and long lasting. Been trying a single looped 2050/1632 cocktail setup recently sends .31cal leads really fast with out hand soap but will also send a .44cal pretty well to but not as fast as Orange dub dub.

How big a job is it and is it north or south of York cause I live in Durham

It's not you, if she hasn't any prey drive then she will not hunt. Try give her a fresh killed rabbit let her eat it. If she's interested drag the rabbit around to encourage her to chase it and let her rag it! If that doesn't work take her out with a dog that works. If she's still not interested then she is not a worker and it up to you what you with her. Best of luck

Mine is from Czech imported parents from a lad near Peterlee in Co Durham.

Aye mine are from foreign stock. He's already hunting well and the future look very promising, but god there stubborn. Hope your bitch turns out well?

Here my 5 month old dog

For me I always return to Orange dub dub tubing, it's never let me down!

Aye they have plenty in the tank. I think that is because they don't race around like lunatics, there just steady away.

At the end of the day it depends what type of ground the dogs are working over. For me it's dense brambles and undergrowth and the tackel can work it far better and faster than my terriers and is finding game that the terrier have gone passed because teckel have better nose. My terrier have many seasons bushing under their belt and the tackel has only just started.
-
Which do you prefer? Had terrier all my life and all but one have worked above or below ground Russell, Lakeland x and Borders. But having seen a decline in the last decade in the quality of terrier in generally, not to say that there isn't still good terrier out there. I have recently had the opportunity to purchase a Teckel pup. First seen Teckel about 15 or so years ago and wondered what they were. Having read a few articles about their ability to work and track the opportunity arose to purchase a pup from a breeder who worked them daily. And to say that I am impressed would be an understa

Not giving up shooting out every day. I shoot bare back style from looped 1633 and 8mm right up to loped 2050 and .50cal leads. Unless you know what these cheap Chinese catapult are made of I would stay clear of them. I would only buy one if they were made from 304steel. I am a Yorkshire man born and bred and as tight as a ducks ..s when it comes to money but I value my sight , just like you say there if always an element of risk

I 3" fiocchi are good so are eley 3" subsonic but for me nothing can beat Winchester 21/2 no. 6 but god they are expensive
-
Buy cheap buy twice. Personally I rarely use a frame now adays but the ones I have came from well know makers and for the sake of a few extra quid is the risk worth it
-
Best advice is to bin that cheap chinese catapult because they have a reputation for snapping and I wouldn't want a lump of metal flight into my face or eye! If you are after a cheap decent catapult them try WASP catapults or Celtic Catapult if you want a wire frame catapult then Dankung is the place to go.

Forgot to say, see if there are any sea angling clubs near you and if anyone would help, advise you and possibly take you out. If I remember rightly Sea Angler magazine high recommended Sonik SMS Black shore rod available in 12ft, 13ft and 14ft (£80-100). Personally I would target flounders first as they can be caught very close to the shore line and are very obliging.
