  1. I always found door knocking or even approaching farmers out on there land the best way of obtaining permission, it's harder to say no to your face than it is to chuck your letter in the bin or ignore an email, I would expect to get at least two yes,s for a day driving round asking, oh and know one has ever asked me for insurance, they usually ask that you shut gates behind you and don't shoot the sheep,
  2. your dead right, they are known as parents, not the son of a chippy on a cloud with winged woman and harps, I,ve said it before having a religion is like having a dick we all know we got one but don't stick it in people's face, it's a lovely picture thanks to Mother Nature and a decent macro lense
  3. I've seen people hunt with a single stand but only on a pfs witch is what I intend to do. I think but am not 100 percent sure that the number represents the size, IE 1745 would be 1.7 mm internal size and 4.5 mm outer diameter and 1842 would be 1.8 mm internal and 4.2 mm external, which would suggest the 1842 would have a thinner wall were as the 1745 is the heavier tube, on my tube catty,s the size of the loop makes all the difference, full length doubles fire 12 mm lead a treat were as a third length loop is better for 9.5 mm steels, hope all that makes some sense
  4. dont think anyone told them in Syria either
  5. when my son was younger I got him a pair of African clawed frogs, not the biggest frog by a long way, but what they could shove down there throat would have put your average porn star to shame, they live in water and never get out, there diet is fish, but when you see a 3" frog eating a 2" fish it looked like a sword swallower, I,m quite happy to be past the pet stage now, it can turn into a full time job

    Bats

know fly,s or moth,s about so yes they do hibernate mate, Spring/early summer usually busiest time same as most of nature really, then a late flurry in Autumn to build up enough fat to take them through the cold months, they will be gone in the next few weeks until April
  7. almost worth traveling for if they are worth that kind of shilling, I had them down as about £25 each myself, have to check it out before I head south with me spoon on a stick
  8. still got my box set of all there movies, watched it so many times I new It word for word, Cheech and Chong,s next movie is a close second on my list

that bat detector sounds like an interesting bit of kit, is there any particular makes or models to buy/avoid as there seems to be a massive variation in prices and models from £30 for a kids toy one upto £250 for a serious bat geek one Mines just a magenta mk4....http://www.nhbs.com/title/156154?title=magenta-bat-4-bat-detector?bkfno=171848&ca_id=1495&gclid=CK6fuoHSns8CFYeVGwodP3ENVg This is cheapest iv found (usually around £90 on ebay) Iv had this model for severel years and have no inclenatin to upgrade, it's a great bit of kit! I often lend it out to friends it's had a lot of
  10. realistically about half a day including cutting the fork and bands, as it's an old crutch you can extend it by about a foot to give you an even bigger draw, but it seems beast enough as it is, I am a bit busy with work at the moment but can't wait to give it a proper go, like I said a bit to much for the garden so need a trip out
  11. . They are a bit early round by me this year and people have been picking them since August, but I will wait until next month, as I only want them to make vodka, I,d rather they are a bit over than under done yea I'm making the gin had a load of brambles yesterday with my 7 kilo of Chantelle's So bramble gin in the making . Does that mean blackberry gin? I just use vodka because I prefer it, other than that it's the same as gin, i,m going to do some rose hip vodka as well next month as I pick loads of hips to make rose hip syrup, and as they have a shitload of medicinal properties in them I
  12. One of those big round things they grow on the floor and look like a ball, generally white, as kids we used to run up and kick em flying and they let out a big cloud, hence the name, they are a lot rarer now but one good size one will feed your family, you slice it like a loaf of bread then cube it, put some pasta on first, fry in butter with garlic, pour on a tin of toms and serve on the pasta, sorry but know tripping,
  13. I may be wrong but I think I read somewhere last year that they have started granting licences to shoot em, as well as there being loads of em I think they may Nick woodpecker nests for themselves, interesting fact coming up, they apparently escaped from the film set of African queen, the old Humphrey bogart movie back in the 50s and have been on the increase ever since, bloody immigrants

  15. thirty year ago cushty I was picking around 400 a day and loving it but I think if I got involved now it would just end up an embaressing puddle of pooh and piss with me sat in the middle, I get excited nowadays when I find a puffball,

little one pipistrale, ginger, horseshoe at a guess, as you have a landing net I assume you angle and as an angler you should notice the increase in bat activity when the fly,s are hatching, that's when they are more common in a nutshell
  17. Just been for a mooch out with the dogs around my usual sloe picking patch, and must say this don't look like it's going to be a good year, the hawthorns are weighed down with there little red berrys, but the blackthorns look rather bold I even spoke to a few pickers as I passed and they all said it's the worst year they have seen in ages, seems to be a good mushroom year because they are everywhere, also found a baby buzzard, that had been eaten by a fox, real shame as it was only a day or so from leaving but hay that's nature
  18. it's getting those old cast iron ones down the stairs, that deserve your sympathy mate they are in another league
  19. . So at the end of your quote were it says there was another three kilos left, I would,nt really consider taking less than 50 percent as over picking them would you,? I have been living in harmony with my environment for many years and have always been aware of leaving enough for next year be it mushrooms rabbits or berry,s so stop being so sillyTo be honest i was knacked from graft when i read it correctly so fair play for being on the defensive.after re-reading your reply i dont doubt you only take what you need. but Im far from being silly! It just anoys me when a see people hamering the

  21. It looks lovely mate I was just being a dick, plus it took me 7 years to decorate my hall stairs and landing so your making me look bad
  22. I think I liked it better before
  23. main problem with waiting,is everyone else won't and by the time you get out they will all be stripped upto a height of 7ft, I have found the answer to this problem in the shape of a large step ladder on the back of my tipper, I tie it off to the ladder rack then tip the bed to go up to the tree top, I get lots of funny looks but always the most and the best sloes ever ,the tops of the trees are like a blue lawn when I get up there and they have had the best of the sun, I pulled three kgs off of one tree last year and there was probably another three still there when I was finished, shame my r
  24. Been in my man cave this weekend and made this new and improved crutch starship, I,ve made it a bit longer than my previous ones to give an even longer draw, also made the fork ttf and capable of taking 35mm bands, so it's 31" overall length, bands are 35mm tapered to 25 and the draw to my chin is 48" if I go butterfly style I can get a 6ft draw on it, it's very accurate and is chucking 12mm lead balls faster than my normal cattys can do 9mm steels, I had a little test on my normal garden target range and not only did it hit the target with ease it smashed my catch box to bits after, it is a b
