    Shooting corvids, a great passion of mine and had not thought of using the hmr for that but at distance, that could be good fun. I took a few out yesterday with my air / fac in the wind, very satisfying. Does the wind cause issues for hmr, I never found it a real problem with wmr but have heard hmr being bad in the wind however of course I have no personal knowledge.........yet. Phil

    Forgive my ignorance Mitch but don't you get new adapters with the pard. When we were testing the 'v' it seemed to be much better result than my pal's 'a' version on the Hawke Airmax Compact which we have 5 of between us. Do you think it is simply not compatable with FFP scope. Phil

    I am quite surprised as that shop always used to have a good name but that attitude is just out of order. You have to bear in mind we are dealing with The Sportsman Gun Co which is a bad move anyway but FX took the bad decision to entrust these twats with the FX agency sooooooooooo because they said there is nothing wrong with the gun means fcuk all, do not trust a word they say and they have fixed the problem and inferred there was nothing wrong. If the Crown is now operating correctly, just enjoy it and change your rfd. Phil

    I know Federal is a massive brand in the US so they will go on the list. Not a lover of CCI generally so they will be a last resort. I think it is also down to what we can get hold of and whilst we have two main rfd shops we go to, it will be either from them or not at all as I am guessing it is such a pain to get firearm ammo in small quantities from a mail order source if posssible.     Strange they don't have them in their own name Mitch as I really rate RWS subs and mags.

    I thought Hornady were manufacturing their own as I recall that seemed to be the ammo that had the least amount of issues when a few years ago there were big problems with hmr rounds causing damage to the barrels on occassions.

    Just looked and RWS are not showing ammo for hmr which is strange as they make wmr ammo, I still have some. Phil

    I had some feed back today that Norma is not good but as you say every barrel is different although our firearms specialist rfd says V-Max is by far their biggest seller for hmr. RWS produce a superb wmr round but have no feedback on an hmr round either performance or availability. First test will be Hornady V-Max as they are easily available but just checking Forest Lodge site, they sell Norma, Winchester, CCI, Remington, Federal and of course Hornady so my pal and myself may well buy a few different ones to try.     The Impact has not gone yet Mitch, going on Wednesday and the reason is two fold, The tuning house doing the work on the gun has been waiting for some of the parts since early November, they actually arrived last week and it is thought the parts for the Mk1 will become more of an issue. Another thing was that despite me buying the gun at one month old, it has been fcuked about with inside and although I have not messed with it, I was advised to get rid. My first thought was to get a Crown with the aluminium tank as it's a couple of hundred quid cheaper than the carbon tank version, in .2

    Thanks guys for the info, most interesting. Hornady V-Max 17gr is what I was going to use unless any of you have any other suggestions although I have heard od some people using, I think it was 20 or 22gr but not sure, I am guessing the 17gr helps to keep the point of impact on the zero point for longer range. I will establish this later but as a matter of interest, if I zero at 75 - 100mt using 17gr V-Max, how far would you expect it to stay on target without holdover. I am curious about this as I have, like many people, had to use holdover for most of my shooting. Tests will show this

    For some years I have avoided going the hmr route as I never found a reason to have one, instead I went the wmr route, a round I really liked but my mistake in buying a varmint barrel version which I found just too heavy on the front end and sold it to a guy who wanted exactly what I had. Recently my shooting partner and I have been toying with an hmr for a few of perms where the land is very open and no hedges to creep down, several of which are over 110 acres so the advantage of the hmr might be ideal in terms of range.     Yes I know, about bloody time, I hear you say but even I have seen the light BUT I will be keeping at least one of those superb NiteSite units that have accounted for thousands of rats and a great many rabbits. Now that I have just added a Sako rimmy to the Tikka, there is enough room on the stock to fit a 007v which I cannot do on my Wildcat or P35 and my Impact will be gone next week so not in the equasion.
